Well, let it be known that I am always about supporting the home team and right now, I think the Missouri is doing great to be ranked number one in the country and I actually want to watch their bowl game. But there's just a little too much Black and Gold in St. Louis, in Missouri, in the freakin' news room I work in! I think 50% of the people I work with went to Mizzou and I love them a lot but if I hear "Miz-zou Rah!" on more time I going to paint myself Orange and Blue, plop down at my desk and play the Illinois Fight Song until Christmas! Yeah, that's for you, Conroy!

I love you guys so much but there's a stopping point. I just think if Illinois was in the top spot, we wouldn't be getting THIS much attention in St. Louis. Chicago, probably so, but this is Mizzou country by a slight margin. My complaint isn't the coverage so much as the fact that we have to cover it for another month! That's because of the upcoming bowl game. So I say, thin it out a little bit.

Overkill is overkill, no matter what it is. We did four, yes FOUR Mizzou segments in our Morning Show on FOX 2 Thursday. Oh, by the way, our morning producers all went to Mizzou, but I won't hold that against them

All I'm saying is I love the Illini and I'll support Mizzou, but someone please send me some Illini ORANGE AND BLUE LOVE! I need to hear the drums play and see the Orange Krush! I need Krannert and the Assembly Hall! I'd love some ice cream from the Illini Union and listen to the bell toll at noon on the Quad. I'd love to see Jordan's son running up and down the court in those shorts, yes!

I wish I could have some Gumby's pizza.

I've give anything to just sit in Foellinger Auditorium for just one more lecture.

How about an Italian soda and croissants and Busey's Coffee House with Grandma and Grandpa Miller?

Timisha, don't you want to go Wal-Mart and rearrange their merchandise like we used to do in undergrad when we got bored?

Laura, let's have a midnight snack at the Steak n Shake on Neil Street. Oh, I forgot, you'll be in Grainger studying all night.

Brad, come pick me up so I can do laundry for free in what used to be known as Melrose. Aww, I can hear the Black Chorus singing.

Hey, does anybody want to go dancing at Kams, Home of the Drinking Illini??

ANYTHING to save this Illni's orange and blue heart. I'll take whatever you've got. Just save me from the Miz-zou Rah Mania!

Wow.....a wee lil bit selfish are we? You're free to back whichever team you like but, you're in Missouri now and the football Tigers have acheived something that has taken 47 years to get back to! Surely you can bear a couple more days of "MIZZOU" and then perhaps you can go back to your regularly scheduled doom and gloom newscasts......maybe not though......perhaps they will play for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP and then you'll have to wait a bit longer.....I know, it's all about YOU though so perhaps you can find some Illini news to getcha by! ;~)

GO MIZZOU!

LOL! This works in several blogs today.... ;~)

GO TIGERS... just wanted to get that out of the way Vera. She has been inundated with the black and gold and the Fight song... but we can't help ourselves. And you said four segments during a four hour morning show... I think that isn't too bad!

The Illini had a good year back in 2005 and I am sure I would hear about it a little if I worked with you then. Yes, I am a little obsessed about it right now... but why not! Our team is doing awesome and I want everyone to know it. I don't think we are being cocky... just passionate. I promise... about a week after the bowl game... whichever one we land in ... we'll probably quite down a little.

By the way... Columbia has Gumby's too, that's something we can enjoy together. I will cheer for that!

MIZ!

I suggest blowing off all the Division II joints at U of I and heading to Columbia for some real food at Booches, G&D Pizza... and of course, Shakespeares. GO TIGERS!!

Oh, when was the last time a word was mentioned on the news about the Salukis football team. 2nd around of the playoffs and only 1 loss all year to N. Iowa. This program has been dominate for 4-5 yrs straight albeit not successfull thus far in the playoffs unfortuatnely. I realize they play in the non bowl subdivision (formally I-AA) but where's the press from STL? This team deserves some credit. Jerry Kill has done a magnificient job resurrecting that program. Let's hear it for those Salukis in both Football and Basketball this year. They will probably fair the best in Basketball of all the major local teams this year. Mizzou and Illinois will be mediocre at best. Illini basketball just hasn't looked impressive thus far unfortunately.

Not sure what happened to my first post about Illini but remember if it weren't for a fumble by the Illini BACKUP quarterback in the season opener then none of this Championship buzz would even be discussed. Ron Zook should hands down be the coach of the year. I'm rooting for the sooners this weekend because a win over Mizzou would put OSU in the national title game and more than likely propel the Illini into the Rose Bowl against USC. The Illini would essentially end up in a "better" bowl game than Mizzou. That would be so cool. Mizzou's had a spectacular season, no doubts and their offense is lethal but the defense is mediocre at best. A great offense like WVU will carve them up like butter. If Mizzou didn't play in the weak Big 12 North then none of this would even be discussed. Kansas is a fluke and it will show once again when they play another real opponent. They are 0-1 against ranked opponents. GO ILLINI. The Juice is loose!

Wow Ryan.....to bad you can't accept a great season of football and support the fans here in MO and be proud of them or the fact that MIZZOU BEAT the Illini plain and simple! Doesn't matter if it was in the 3rd OT with a 3rd sting QB, or the last second of reg. with a second string QB, or a blow-out with the best they have.....the final score is what matters in sports and a loss just makes the other team the 1st loser. That's Sports!

Sad some people can't support teams close to them....when the Illini roundball team was headed for a championship you saw a LOT of MO and Mizzou fans cheering them on and even when the Cubbies are a better team than the Cards a LOT of MO fans and Cards fans want the Cubbies to win it all!

Think what you will and rationalize all you want but, the plain fact is, if Mizzou gets past the Sooners.....which they may or may not, but I hope they do.....they will handle WV much easier than this game. ESPN, SI and even the coaches whom have played/seen both agree that Mizzou IS a superior team this year....

I'm sorry to tell you all but MO will lose they have no fan support i went to MO stadium twice and it was never sold out. I also have a buddy who is on the board of directors for the NC this year and told me he is hoping MO losses because they have no fan support like Ohio St, ND, Mich, LSU, USC, OK and is afraid of what effect it will have. So once you all learn to support your team give me a call. Mizzou will loss, I mean look they dominated the OK last game when OK had some injuries and still got crushed 41-31, you guys just don't have the talent but you live in this false since like Mizzou has been great for years well i have news they have suxed for years.

Oh by the way Ryan, Zook and IL have always given OSU troubles that doesn't make them a great team or coach. Just becuase you play well for one game doesn't make you a good team sorry, i mean ARK beat LSU should the ARK coach be a coach of the year?????

well I dont know about all the mizzou games but my neighbor went to a mizzou game and it was sold out...so 2 games are not enough to call you an expert on that subject...in MHO...

GO TIGERS....MIZ....ZOU!....Miz...ou...RAH!

Hey p, let's wait and see.....maybe you'll be right about a Mizzou loss....but perhaps not! As far as fan support....takes time to build after you somewhat correctly stated if not correctly spelled, that they have "sucked" for years....gotta start somewhere! Kind of amazing where they (Mizzou) are for a team that, in your words "don't have the talent" finishing better than 96.4% of the other schools in the same division this season! ;~)

Good to see your great attitude and support for a team having a great season here in Missouri! Oh, and BTW p, I'm a graduate of Duke....one of my sons is attending the same now....Mizzou roundball/football/baseball have always been my favorites but I found a way to also love Duke roundball....always loved the Cards and the Cheifs but am able to show my support for the Rams and the Royals/Cubbies if they are doing good! Ought to try it some time.....will make you more friends than bashing! ;~)

Lots of jobs in Illinois Vera...Welcome to Missouri...enjoy the ride...we've been enjoying Illinois'...and I recall doing Illini stories ad nauseum when they went to the Final Four...as always trying to send some love...but if Illinois would have beat Mizzou you wouldn't be in this predicament! Blame the Zooker! Go Tigers, Go Illini (if they are not playing MU)...gotta run...I have to do a live shot for my fifth straight day of Mizzou! I promise we will stop a few days after January 7th! I-L-L....

Now Vera ... I HAVE worn all my Mizzou gear the last two weeks ... and I do sing the fight song to you occasionally ...

... but I have not been as bad as our co-workers who keep playing the fight song on their computers at full volume!

... and I haven't left outrageous notes and posters at our desks ... or talked non-stop about the team, and the game, and the field, and our traditions ... ;-)

So it really could be worse ...

... like when we win Saturday and you have to listen to all of us for a whole month!

I just can't believe how good they are this year, when they were soooooo bad while I went there!

We love you, girl ... and we'd be right there with you, rooting for Illinois ... just as long as they hadn't beat Mizzou to get there ...

I'm not saying that Zook deserves coach of the year because Illinois beat OSU. I'm saying he deserves coach of the year from taking a two yr consecutive 2 win team to 9-3 this year with more quality wins than alot of schools, Mizzou included. I respect the fine season Mizzou has had and Daniels is a great quarterback but I don't think they are National Championship caliber yet. BTW, Illinois didn't get near the press coverage when the Illini BB team went to the Championship game in 2005. Sure, it was on every newsdcast during the sports segment but it wasn't featured on every darned local news as their top story all week!!!! No need to argue. I'm just glad both local teams had a great season. But honestly not a word has been mentioned on any local news cast on how well the Illini did this year. It's 100% Mizzou. Just a small story would have been nice.

The media always runs any story into the ground . On the other hand , ST, Louis sports media has shown very little respect for Mizzou over the years .
RyanD if I understand you right . Coach Zook should be coach of the year because of quality wins . Then a Team that beat Illinois this year . That coach should be coach of the year , because of the better quality win ?
Lol Just kidding , Mizzou and Illinois are both having outstanding years . But please , give us Mizzou fans some slank . After all its been 47 years !
GO TIGERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it seems the best thing to od to get a BCS bowl is to lose to Mizzou...(i.e. both Illinois and Kansas sneaking in) Too bad Mizzou cant lose to itself. Bummed about Kansas...happy to see Illini go...just don;t embarass us all and get throttled by SC...please...and can we all put some energy towards Virginia Tech doing just that to the Jayfrauds! I-L-L...
