I have a question as to how the following situation would be handled. Let's say that a person who works for a company that bans smoking has a spouse at home that smokes? Is that worker not exposed to the very EVIL substance that the employer's meddling was trying to protect against? Would they fire that worker? Would they force a divorce, separation? Would they call for yet another law? Afterall, they would certainly HAVE to do something as second hand smoke is THE main issue when these do-gooder, self-appointed elite get on their soapbox and try to control others lives. What about drinkers? What about people with chronic illnesses? Remember that Adolph Hitler tried to control the health of his citizens. Starting to sound familiar? God help us!

Of course the main issue is second hand smoke what else are they going to blame it one. That is everything that is EVIL in society. Very good point though what would they do? Probably try to get another law passed at a pathetic attempt to try to control everyones lifes! I thought I thought we fought a war to oust him out! He died many years ago! Has he come back to life because that is what it is sounding like with the way our country is going! REALLY could someone tell me where to state of Ohio gets their smoking statistics from? Because I know for a fact that I wasn't a part of that statistic just like I am sure many other Ohioans weren't. Did they go to churches and ask the congregations or something because that is what it is sounding like! If something isn't done soon we are going to be under the rule of Hitler, in other words a communist country. Where there wouldn't be a single person that would have any rights...Yes that would include all the non-smokers that are complaining about us smokers that want our rights back!

They probably surveyed the Cancer Society for smoking stats and 'maybe' establishments who already have total non-smoking or at least a section. Hail Hitler ! is exactly right if our people dont stick together and fight for their Rights

We the people of these United States…sound familiar? We, as a nation, have a constitution which guarantees certain rights and priveliges to all (life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness). We, as a nation, have certain responsibilities to make sure our freedoms are maintained. Are these “rights” I keep hearing about being stripped away from us…the people…covered under the constitution? Not specifically, nor are they specifically denied. Our responsibility is to be informed and involved in the governmental process. If our rights are being stripped away, then it is our fault. Nothing has been removed or banned that was not voted on at the polls. The polls that saw maybe a third of the voting public participate. That is the scary part. It is the responsibility of every citizen to learn the issues, voice his opinions and vote his conscience. And above all pray that our nation can continue as a free society. The lack of participation and the confusion of those participating in elections serves to empower those who manipulate the system. And, we are all being manipulated by the political “machine”. That is where we need to be focusing our attentions. Quit pointing fingers, name calling, and claiming victimization. Get informed and involved. Let those elected know that we are watching and we care about the process of our own govrernance. They are beholden to us and we intend to keep it that way. Otherwise, we are all at the mercy of he who has the most…MONEY. Pray for our leaders, pray for our nation, and pfay for our troops. We are one nation under God.

Again I say look at the $$$ that Obese/overweight people cost and I want to see them refused a job due to their weight. Because not all fat/overweight/obese people are like that due to meds., illness and other uncontrollable things. Some are Addicted to food just like some are addicted to smoking. Then some would like to think that and blame everthing and everyone else around them instead of taking responsibility for their actions. Like the person that sued McDonalds for them being FAT. Hey I got an idea don't go there or if you do pick better choices. In the news clip you could clearly see some pretty overweight people there. Maybe that company should FORCE ALL their employees to use the fitness room. And if you don't then you get fired! In factories I've worked at most of the obese people did LESS than half the work everyone else did and there wasn't one darn thing we could do about it. But they got the same pay and the same raises. Yea that's fair. Because it not be PC to say anything and hurt their feelings.

Lord knows that will NEVER happen because that would be discrimination and a big lawsuit would be brought up against the company. This is getting sickening.

Because WE the PEOPLE have rights the smoking ban was on the baliot and WE the PEOPLE had the right to vote and WE the PEOPLE stated with our vote that we do not to smell you smoke when we are in a building. How many more rights do you want?

I'd like to encourage the OTHER people (42% of registered voters) that disagree with Issue five to follow this link for an online petition to have the state change the law to make exemptions for smoking areas:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/138009984

WE the PEOPLE can continue to voice our concerns to our elected officials.

Quietman, you certainly can sign all the petitions you want. Every single politician I heard, even our current Governor the crook was in favor of issue 5. The majority of the people who voted supported issue 5 by a clear majority. Issue 4, which whould have been probably what you would consider a "reasonable" compromise went down by an even larger margin then issue 5 passed.

You certainly can try, but don't expect any help from Columbus.

i'm from ashland and our judge is working with the city to abolish issue 5 in our city. we don't need a bunch of smokers standing out on main street smoking in front of our bars.

dirtybob, The smoking ban is a state law--not a city law. Also, the smokers will not be allowed to smoke in front of the bar if the smoke will drift into the bar. They will need to be far enough away to prohibit smoke from entering the establishment.

PEOPLE WILL BE HANGING AROUND OUTSIDE SMOKING JUST AS THEY DO NOW. YOU WANTED OUT OF PUBLIC PLACES NOW DEAL WITH THE CLOUD OF SMOKE YOU'LL BE GOING THROUGH TO GET INTO PUBLIC PLACES

I do not think non-smokers will have to deal with a cloud of smoke trying to enter an establishment.

Let me say for what it's worth on line petitions are pretty useless. You have to have real petitions with real signatures.

About the distimination for obese people. I myself have been discriminated against due to my weight--and it had no bearing on "how much work I do". It wasn't a factory, where I'd be on piecework--it was in an office setting. Put a "skinny" someone on a computer next to me, and I guarantee I could out-type them--even though I'm overweight!

I hear what your saying Pikie I just stated what I seen and the people I had to work with. Some were very proud of the fact and laughed how the company didn't "ezpect" as much from them because and of their weight they could move slower and take more breaks. If a Shift Sup. told them to move a little quicker some would pretend they are having shortness of breath or some other great illness. Well the company afraid of a lawsuit for discrimination let it go each and every time. Meanwhile the "overweight" worker would wink and smile then only to say see it works every time.

It just sickened me and still does. So that's why I posted what I did and didn't want to make any blanket statements about overweight people. I just find it funny how people tiptoe around that and ALL the health issues and how they ALSO make the cost of health ins. go up but it's get put on the smokers because it's PC.

We must be cautious when trying to place blame and start with the finger pointing and name-calling. Playing the victim and saying things are always someone else’s fault is popular today. Political correctness is anything but the right way to go. It (PC) can only get us where we are today or worse if we let it. It’s time to accept that we all make choices (some good and some bad) and live with the consequences. At the same time we must remain diligent in maintaining our freedoms as set forth in the Constitution. We are responsible for our own situations. If WE have been duped, then WE were not keeping informed.

The real issue with the smoking ban and other issues boils down to…MONEY. Find out where the money is coming from and/or going and things begin to clear up. Learn the issues, talk about them and get out and vote. Let the elected officials know we are the reason they are in office. They work for us and should represent the voting public in implementing their duties. They are public servants and should act in the best interest of US…the people, not self. This self-concern leads to self-importance and leads to GREED. Again, the MONEY becomes the motivator.

Society today is headed in a downward spiral. Morality is considered a bad thing and responsibility is shunned. God help us. We could use a return to a more Christ-like attitude, or just a return to God. All I need to know about living has already been written in the Bible. I’m not afraid to admit it, and this does not make me a bad person.

God is good…all the time.

hookbill,

So every single politician you heard, including the Governor (a crook by your own admission) is suddenly RIGHT??? The ONE RIGHT thing they did between the coin collection/beanie babie funding etc...now all the sudden they are RIGHT?

Well, right or wrong, we citizens (I'm pretty sure I'm still a citizen) have the right to petition the state government for change.
