After a blustery and cool day in So cal, I'm grabbing my suit and heading south. South of the border to see the Mayan Ruins.

I've never been to Chichen Itza or the Yucatan. Have you?

Looking forward to seeing how the local Maya are living and hoping to learn more about this fascinating mesoamerican civilization.

If you have some "must-sees"  or "must-dos".....pass them along. I'll file my full report when I get back.

Aloha!

¡Vamos!

Maria

Just below the pyramids is a 'private' beach.

The oil produced from human skin is causing the pyramid stone to turn black, which is why they don't let people climb on them anymore.

Ck. out the beach...It's real cozy...hope you are not going there alone.

Also ck. out the underwater caves off the main hwy. It takes forever to get there on a two way single lane roadway but it's worth it.

The caves spit you out into a large lagoon where you will swim with trained dolphins...Maria, I don't know you, but I hope you have a great time.

I rented one of those private bungalows on the beach just off the main hwy...away from those commercial hotels on the main drag.

Hey Greg,

Raindrops keep falling on my head, or

If someone says, "Are you getting paid for that." Yea buddy, "There's a few holes in that umbrella and it's raining cats and dogs."

I got searched by a cute cop in the rain who said, "Is that all you."

kind of romantic...

the light and sound show is really captivating and it allows you to imagine yourself as a mayan

Sooo, this is where we can find you!
...
I've only been to Tolumne-it was a great trip. If you happen to go there make sure you go to the top of the hill and look out over the ocean (besides it's the only way to cool off after the climb)
...
By the way, why don't they acknowledge you on ch 13?
I think you should go to Fox and Freinds where your talents will truly be appreciated by the masses!!
Have Fun,
YeeHaa

I'm back from my vacation and I just want to say Muchas Gracias for all of your wonderful suggestions on sites to see.

Started my trip in Chichen Itza. Spent two days at a hotel that is actually IN the ruins. Amazing! The light show at night was pretty cool too. It's too bad they don't let you climb El Castillo anymore. That's the big pyramid that's been featured in many movies. Remember the movie AGAINST ALL ODDS with Rachel Ward and Jeff Bridges? They spent so much time there. It was so romantic.
Anyway---the ruins were breathtaking and the history behind the Mayans is fascinating.

'Continued the trip into Puerto Morelos. About 15 minutes south of Cancun. Stayed at a beautiful small hotel on the beach. It was home base for a few days. Drove to Tulum. That site was truly gorgeous! And the beach below...reminded me of that famous scene with Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr from the film FROM HERE TO ETERNITY. (ah, yes...I'm a movie buff)

Playa Del Carmen was very close to Puerto Morelos and is such a fun city. Much better than Cancun. The restaurants were great...and it was really easy driving around in a rented car. Those darn speed bumps pop out of nowhere though!

The Yucatan is a wonderful place. I hope to go back soon.

I'm probably too late in asking for this, but any chance you got a shot of one of the pyramids that you can show us at the beginning of one of your weathercasts?

You know how I love the cultural/nature shots. :-)
