Lesley Anne's Blogs

In the 1950's, even in the 1960's television may well have been a perfectly fine place for children to find role model, but those days are long gone.

Today why would anyone look to Hollywood for role models, it is beyond me.

While you folks are explaining to your young ones about the sensitive issues this has brought up, please include some discussion of what a role model really is and where one should seek out such role models.  Please explain to your children that no one is perfect and that people in their life that they look up to may well let them down.  Let your children know that their strength should come from within themselves and from their faith, whatever that faith may be.

Television today is a sad substitute for the real world and should rarely, if ever be allowed to guide our youth.

As always, just my humble opinion.

Kids are raised on 'TV milk'! What they see becomes the 'world', as it even does for adults. We somehow think we're supposed to LOOK like these phony, enhanced celebs. Now here's a 16 yr. old idiot, bragging about being unmarried and prego... her own mother allowed her to live with this 19 yr kid! What a shame.

Woohoo, my baby is on the fromt page :). Thank you Char, I am only alittle proud, hehehe. okay I am gonna copy and paste a response I put on another post about this, cuz I am too lazy to re-type it, lol.

The first time this struck me as being my own dang fault was when my oldest was a teenager and told me his role model was Pluto (John Bullusi) on Animal House.......Whoa, just what a mother wants to hear, big wake up call and lots of long long discussions after that. In truth we should be encouraging our kids to develope their own personalities and not to be putting so much stock into fictional characters.

No prob about da tyop, typo's... we all do them. lol
It's easy to think there's no harm, but look at baseball players... football plays killing animals, drugs, women,drugs... this not like it used to be with morals!
We need our kids to look to Mom and Dad as models... and of course, to the Lord.

I understand your pride in the grandchild... we have 2 and soooo precious. They all have such bright, shinny hopeful faces, don't they!

It's always been that way, though. My grandfather was in the music industry for 40 years (1921-1963) & always said that you can like a singer's music, an actor's movies, etc. but you usually do not want to emulate their personal lifestyles. Example: Hank Williams & Judy Garland. It's still true today.

I cannot get enough of her smiling little self.

Really I think that alot of this stuff has always gone on, we simply no longer have any discretion in the media. Back in the day something like this would never have been publicized. Nowadays, everyone has to have their noses in everyone else's business, whether it be a private matter or not. Sometimes I think the media is the real problem, along with the millions who clammer for such intimate details.

I loved Lassie ,that was my view on life as a small child to not hurt animals, I cried through every single episode all my mom would say would be but Lassie is ok . Some parents wouldn't allow their kids to watch it WHY so they cried they had heart. Another was the skater Peggy Fleming I loved to skate ,so I guess we just need to steer our kids into the right direction of having a good role model

As I have said for the past 20 years, TV feeds radiation and breeds ignorance.

I agree with you...todays television has some of the worst programming (MTV, VH1, NICK...etc). My son and I watch more discovery, science, history channels than anything. Sure he loves his cartoons....but I absolutely will not let him watch MTV or live action nick shows (drake n josh etc). The shows nowadays S*cks and every woman i see on mtv is just slutty with no self respect...ever seen NEXT?

I accidently came across NEXT last week, I think. There were 4 or 5 guys waiting in what was a bus of some type to be chosen as a date for another guy. I am ashamed to say that I was so amazed I actually watched it for alittle while, WOW. I think I am avoiding that channel entirely now. Now if I can happen upon such things, I know the little ones can and that is why their TV is programmed for G ratings only. God bless parental controls. Crazy, crazy world.
