Whether there is a draft or only volunteers, the obligation is eight years. Everyone is told this at induction. If your term of active duty is two years, you will have two years of active reserves, and two years of in-active reserves.If you sign up for four years then you will have four years of in-active reserves. Until your eight years are completed you are subject to recall. When i joined the military in 1955 and when my son joined the Marines in 1985 we were told of this policy. Also, in time of war the time of service can be " for the duration" of the conflict.
I am supprized at Kevin's not checking facts instead of accepting the Holliwood hate America movie makers version. I get my news from Fox 2 because Fox 2 can usually be trusted to tell the facts. I will not watch ch. 4,5, nor 30 and will not beleive a thing printed in the Post-dispatch

how about a law in some other countries that if you have some heritage there they can draft you in the military and the us department or the us embassy cannot help you. example if i vacation in greece they can draft me into the military there as if i was a citizen there. two years ago my brother went over there to transfer some property there in our names and he was asked if he served the military yet but guess what? he was born in the united states.

patriot1, It is my understanding that this is a film that celebrates the soldiers of our country and is not a hate bashing film. While some things would be necessary to get the point across, I hope that it makes individuals think.

Look at all the reserves continually being sent and resent and resent. The reserves are not meant for this type of service to this extent. We need to think about the mental health of these soldiers and take care of them by not forcing them to return under such circumstances.

I, for one, cannot wait to see the film.

I agree with Mr_Wild. It may be policy but it isn't fair to the people there. Less people are signing up because more people don't agree with this war. Thin out the prisons and bring the people home who have been there too long.

I had not heard of the movie but now want to see it....looks interesting at the least...
