We are constantly doing stories about people, and when no one's home, we often talk to some neighbors. But, many times neighbors don't even know who they're living next to.

Do you know your neighbors?

Been here since 1997. I know some of them. The family living next to me moved here about 9 years ago. They are like family to us. They say they will be moving in a year or two. My daughter is thinking about moving with them. They are all wanting to relocate to Tennessee.

There are a few here who are owners, a lot more of them are rentals, so people come and go. There are two places being remolded now, and I'm thinking they will be for sale soon.

Well, I have only been here 3 years this coming July and I have always been the type to think GET TO KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS...of course coming from a large City..you better know whose next door. So YES. I know them very well...they love me to death and with lightheartness and no malice...they call me "the Cuban Mrs. Kravitz" LOL...cause I am always watching out for them specially the seniors and when they go out on trips..guess who keeps an eye...they also help me out.

I wish you were my neighbor then Candy. We've spoken to our neighbors a few times. Don't know them all that well. The house next to us has an owner, but who knows where he disappears to? Merchant marine or something? Haven't seen him since November and isn't friendly at all anyways. Lights fireworks at 2am, so obviously I wrote to our HOA and took care of it. How rude!!!

LOL channyman2 now that's inconsiderate...unless of course, we are talking New Years Eve or 4th of July cause that's one thing I have enjoyed here is blowing my fireworks (I don't do nothing wild but just enough to have fun and light the sky). At first my neighbor to the right was not friendly at all then we had a dispute..of course, the last thing I thought I find myself doing here in Florida was to rake leaves..and our first fall here this neighbor had this huge tree and DEAR LORD...on a windy day, we were out and when I got home I thought I was having a dejavu up north...then I see her youngson blowing the darn things..I got so annoyed I went out bought a rake and rake all the leaves to the side of her house..then one day same thing..now I was getting annoyed, so I went over and told her about it..third time..I just took the rake and went rake wild..put all the leaves in front of the house..oh she NO LIKE THAT...we had our differences I gave her some eggnog..and said we are neighbors I hate your tree and unless you are going to take care of it..I am sorry we will go through this year after year..we toasted..and the following year..she brought the tree down..AWHHH that was nice..now no one can hide behind it and I can see clear through the corner and I can even keep an eye on her home and her son helps on with our mowing..life is good......LOL

Yes, all 14 in the mile long stretch of my road. All but one are really, really great neighbors.

My neighbor doesn't talk to me since I called Animal Control complaining about his yapping dogs that barked 22 hours out of the day. He didn't do anything about it when I complained to him personally, so I called Animal Control, he got fined and he hasn't talked to me since. I'm not losing any sleep over it

Unfortunatly we have neighbors we really don't want to know. On one side we have a woman with 5 kids all with different fathers who has a constant stream of "hispanic" visitors who never stay more than a week, and are usually followed by a visit from the authorities and on the other we have a guy who when in town keeps his wife and kids behind closed doors and does not allow them to speak to anyone in the area. When he is out to sea the wife and kids go somewhere else and the house sits empty until his return. Next to them is a woman who has the police there at least twice a month because of an ongoing battle with an ex over kids, she now has a boyfriend living with her and they just had their second baby in a little over two years. Across from us is a young woman who doesn't talk to anyone either. While we have made several attempts to know the others so many of these homes are up for sale that its almost impossible to know who is even still here.

I admit this is difficult for me as we moved to Florida from a small town (203 people) where we knew everyone and they knew us. It definatly isn't a neighborhood like the one I grew up in either but we keep trying and I guess thats all we really can do.

No Candy, this was not on New Year's or July 4th. Just a normal night here in quiet subdivision. Mr Mouthy got home all drunk and stupid. Oh let's light off fireworks in the backyard during dry season IN THE GRASS!!! That's what set me off. Our homes could have started on fire. Dipsh**

Wow. Well looking in the bright side at the very least your HOA took action, which to me that's rare since we had a similar problem two families feuding over a dog and the HOA did nothing.......good luck...just remmeber..we are living in 2008..can't have doors and windows unlocked and unprotected anymore...ITS JUST NOT SAFE ANYWHERE.......shame thought we move here for some peace and quiet......THE JOKE WAS ON US..but I wont complained LOVE THE WEATHER......I MEAN I SEE THE PALMS; THE SUN AND THE WONDERFUL WEATHER......and I SMILE AND GIVE THANKS........

Isn't that a shame we can't leave our doors and windows unlocked and feel safe? We did that all the time up north, but times are changing....not for the good either.

channyman...those were times back in the day..way back....you didn't have to lock your car...your kids well back then I was a kid we played outside all day. If we got cut or bruise it was playing and no one looking to sue...yes there were gangs..but geeze back then they respected the elders and if they saw a kid acting up they would set them straight instead of trying to make them join..YEP remember those days..all too well.

funny I was watering the lawn today..and I notice three adults a couple of kids and one of the adults had a carriage..and my other neighbor was outside doing something..the first thing I said..never seen those characters around here..be on the look out cause that's what these evil doers do they so nicely walk around the neighborhood JUST TO CHECK things out and whose home or not...right away my neighbor (recently moved in about a year) starts laughin and ask you know everyone around here..and I said yes, that's why I was a board member for two years..so that I can get to know whose who..I am glad I did..things will always happen but is good to know your surroundings...

i have lived at my residence for 5 years, i have had people move in and out, my neighbors immediately to my right stole my daughters scooter (for several days and started to thrash it in the back yard), and convicted child sex offender, who somehow, has his kids living down the street from us. His child broke my outside a.c. unit and claimed to have no money form not working (cause of his past). I'd rather live in the country where everyone is far away.

I love moving into a new neighborhood...it gives me a chance to annoy everyone by speaking to you whether you want me to or not. That way I know right up front who I have to watch out for and who I will take care of to the best of my abilty while I live there. I have been so fortunate to have good neighbors wherever I go.
But Mr. J I must say, if my smile and persistant acts of kindness never worked on you...there's no hope left. But I liked you anyway and I could swear one day I saw you smile. I'll still never know how you got such a SWEET wife.
In all seriousness though...YOU need to know your neighbors...those you want to WATCH carefully...and those you will want to watch out for that might need you. It takes all kinds to make the world go around.

I love my neighbors. I just hate when they ask to borrow something and you have to knock on their door to get it back. Also when you meet a new neighbor and they make themselves too comfortable. I have to say that is one of my pet peeves. Just cause my car is parked in the driveway doesn't mean I want visitors. Lololol. I'm a GREAT neighbor !!!!

I'm a reporter for FOX 35 News. I moved here January 2006 from cold Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It's been an exciting new adventure. I still feel as if every weekend is a vacation. Beaches, theme parks, pools. It's all new to me. When friends from up north make wise cracks about the hurricanes I remind them of the 20 below temperatures they have to endure every winter. It's so cold reporters have to use markers instead of ballpoint pens when covering an outdoor story because the ink freezes. Ha. I'm happy to be here and excited to cover the news that matters most to you.
