Screaming young girls--the average age 9 yrs old.  They came to the Nokia Theater with their moms and dads to see one of the highest grossing acts in Mexico.

They’re known as RBD. A Mexican pop group that was born out of a once popular telenovela called “Rebelde”.

The show was about six teens at a private boarding school that form a pop band. The teen drama had a huge impact on young kids in Latin America and in Los Angeles.

The teens I talked with say they identified with each of the characters and even though the soap opera ended, the pop group took off. Dulce, Ahani, Maite, Alfonso, Christopher and Christian make up the group.

RBD has a Latin Grammy nomination and now they’re on a world tour promoting their latest album. And it all started because they appeared on the same TV show.

But, it’s not the first time it’s happened. The power of TV and the Internet has turned numerous musical groups and singers into mega stars that young kids look up to.

From the Partridge Family to Miley Cyrus (aka Hannah Montana), they’re all obviously talented. But without the backing of a hit TV show, would they have become so popular?

So I was wondering…Do you think television and the Internet have played a part in creating careers that may have otherwise gone unnoticed?

i think many groups/singers have gotten famous due to tv shows, the internet, and the media. i just can't picture the backstreet boys or n-sync working their way up the ladder by doing club shows or performing at bars. i'm sure no one would pay a dime to see them live in such a setting. but since they were manufactured and over exposed to millions of teenage girls on mtv, they have become huge. i would add to the list pretty much every pop sensation to that list, from miley cyrus, to o-town (remember "making the band"),98 degrees, justin timberlake, and britney spears. but i have to admit it takes more then just a tv show to make them famous. look at 1/2 the american idol contestants. not all of them have done huge #'s on the pop charts, and look at the show rock star inxs, or supernova. both bands flopped. some people just like free entertainment, and once the show is over, that's it for that artist.

i think right now it's a horrible era for rock/heavy metal music. so many great albums put out by many artist and none of them have done well because lack of exposer. everyone is too into all of these manufactured corporate artist that have their music and lyrics written for them. so at the end they turn out to be puppets. it's sad but true.

RBD SUCKS!!!!!!!! I cant stand boy bands. Or this one. It all started with that ridiculous crap "Menudo". What a dumb idea that was. I wont allow my kids to listen, let alone purchase filth. That includes a large variety of so called music btw.

Nine year old girls screaming for men & women??? wow! What idiots the parents must be! Or are the so called singers nine years old or teens at the very least? Nope! 24,24,24,24,22,21!!! And you condone little girls having crushes on men!!!??????? YUCK.

I think racism played a big part in trying to promote this group...
