Ready or not, American Idol is back! Back-to-back 2-hour episodes Tuesday and Wednesday night on Fox-11.

Now, I know many are saying "who cares"? But come on, someone is watching, because my guess is the ratings will be huge again.

In my package Monday night, Executive Producer Ken Warwick said there is a lot more talent on display this year. We'll see if that's the case. Usually the first few shows are chock full of William Hung-types making fools of themselves (I love those types!).

I know I'll be watching. In fact, I'll be watching with a bunch of UCLA students to see what they think of the new season.

So do me a favor. Watch the first couple of episodes and tell me what you think. Is it more of the same, or even better than ever?

Gotta run to UCLA. Happy watching!

JY

hi JY! i was watching PBS Nova about "cold". i like watching Simon and Randy. the singers are ok when they are pretty, but what i really enjoy is listening to smart people on TV. i like seeing you on TV because you seem smart. do you think i am an average viewer or do my tastes trend toward a TV product which many viewers would find boring? i want a TV product which is just smart people talking. i would like you to be one of the talkers! i like you!

Yamamoto-san:

Great blog again! I have to admit it's a guilty pleasure for me to watch Idol...I just wish there were some great Asian American singers there! It's a bit disheartening to see many of them ending up in the William Hung Hall Of Shame. I hope you're having plenty of fun covering this. For once, I'd like to see someone Asian win this competition; I think there's got to be someone in the community who can go the distance. Take care now!

P.S. I'm keeping track to see if you are blogging like you said you would!

My question is: why UCLA students spend their time watching American Idol instead of focusing on books?
