Hey everyone been a while. I live on Morris Farm road off of the new Peidmont Parkway extension. The past couple of weeks we have had C-130's doing some kind of manuevers, around the airport area. Which is rather strange because there is no Air National Guard station at GSO airport.

Can anyone confirm this for me and does anyone have an idea what is going on?

I can't tell you what's going on, but I can tell you I have noticed as well.

What I heard, though it is not official and may not be true, is that GSO has the longest runway between DC and Atlanta. The military pilots must practice approaches and landings every so often at this airport in the event the other two are not available in case of a national emergency. Large military aircraft and air force one may be required to land here in such an event. If the largest of those planes can make the landing, I guess the rest should have no problem. I recall seeing a similar aircraft practicing approaches last year too.

I think Bleechers or someone blogged about Air Force 1 at GSO a year or so ago. These guys may be keeping an eye on the tank farm that make us a first strike zone.

Thanks TJMac and Shane. And GSO does have a very long airstrip. No matter what it is I like seeing C-130s fly anywhere. :)

Don't think the length of the runway has anything to do with a 130. They are made for short take off and landings.
