Officer To Ballman was the Advisor to the Kirkwood Police Explorers.

Pray for the young men and women in the Kirkwood Police Explorer program, who lost their leader and in years to come, will become the next generation of Police Officers. I hope they are offered help in dealing with this tragady.

Why has none of the news media dug into all the complaints cookie had? I would like to see where his business was, why his vehicles were ticketed? Was thier signs on the street?  Where some of his complaints justified? I think some of these questions anwsered would help.

I don't think the Kirkwood government has embrace the people and history of Meachem Park like they do the rest of Kirkwood. I do think the Chief of Police of Kirkwood has tried to resolve issues.

It was still wrong for the shooting to happen and for the family to justify it.

As a person of brought up in the Catholic faith, I feel it time for Bishop Burke to move on.  He has closed schools and churchs, he has let the vacant church properties turn into slum properties, finds fault with a fundraiser for sick children and wants to protect abusing priest..

Now he has a problem with a Basketball coach comment. I guess Fr. Beondi is going to hell with the rest of the world. It will sure be lonely in Heaven by himself.

Maybe he should leave his castle of a house on Lindell Blvd., give-up his personel driver, housekeepers and cooks and move into one of the other church houses.

No wonder why the Catholic Church is shrieking faster then any other religon.

Looking throught the St. Louis Fire Department 2001 Year Book, I found a section titled

" Africian American History In The St. Louis Fire Department "

May 16, 1921 - first 8 African American men hired into the St. Louis Fire Dept.

Next group of Africian American firefighters hired in1926 - ( no number )

July 16, 1926  Claude R. Johnston first Africian American promoted to Lieutenant and then promoted to captian on Nov. 16, 1929, also first  Africian American to serve 40 years.

1933 - Second Africian American promoted to Captain

1934 - First Africian American's assigned as drivers of fire apparatus

1943 - first Africian American promoted under civil service

June 9th, 1952 - First Africian American killed in the line of duty

Dec. 1, 1952 - first African American promoted to Fire Investigation Unit

April 1961 - end of segregation in STLFD

Aug 15, 1976 - Preston Bouie first Africian American promoted to Battalion Chief and Deputy Chief on Aug 13, 1978 and Assistant Chief on June 17, 1983

1981- First African American hired in fire alarm ( 911 ) and promoted in March 2000

1987- First African American female firefighter

Oct. 28, 1988 - George Horn first African American Fire Marshal

First African American brothers - Roy George and Sherman George - both retired with a rank of Chief, be it Battalion Chief, Deputy Chief or Fire Chief

F.I.R.E. - Firefighters Institue for Racial Equality created in 1967

1975 - 50/50 hire until black firefighters reach equal poulation in fire dept.

1978 -12 black firefighters promoted fter court order

1978- New Test -

1980 - eight blacks promoted to captin, remainder of the list was to be promoted two whites to one black

1981- New Test

1984 - 15 blacks out of 48 promoted

1985 - 11 blacks promoted to Battalion Chief out of 30

1990 - 18 blacks  promoted to captain

2000 - second black firefighter promoted to Fire Marshal

It is truly ashame that it's not what you know , but what color your skin is. I have many black firefighter friends that are on  or  were on the St. Louis Fire Depatment. A retired Captain ( the first black to serve as Captain on the Rescue Squad ) that did not see color, but a person.

It seams to me that everyone thinks about Shawn's friend Tony during those four years of his life , but people are forgetting Shawns friends before he was kidnapped. Shawn had best friends in Richwoods. What do you think went through his friends mind when Shawn never showed up at his house that day?  How has that affected him over the years?

We don't know if someone told Shawn and/or his parents not to see or talk to his Kirkwood friends as they could be part of the investigation.  Maybe when this is all over, Shawn will talk to Tony.

How do you resume a friendship, look them in the face, and resume as if nothing happend after they know of all the sexual abuse you went through?

What would you do?

A lot of people will think that by Devlin confessing, this will be the end of the story. In some aspects this is true, but the nightmarish memories that Ben and Shawn have to live with for the rest of thier lives will never go away. It might get easier as time goes on, as they move on, but they will never forget.

When Bens parents talked today, a reporter asked how Ben was handling this news, you could see the look in their face that he is still living his four days of Hell.

I pray that the media leaves them alone, unless Ben and Shawn want to tell their story.

I hope someday Shawn will write a book about his experience ( not that I want to know all the details, but in a sense I do ) but for the insight on how he survived and all that we can learn from his dredfull experience so we can try to prevent it from happing again.

WHAT WOULD MARTIN LUTHER KING HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THE RACIAL DEVIDE IN THE ST. LOUIS FIRE DEPARTMENT?

MARTIN LUTHER KING MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD - HE WAS FULL OF ACTION AND NOT ALL TALK.

iT'S ABOUT TIME THAT THE BLACK CLERGY COLALITION GET OFF THEIR DUFF AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROBLEMS FACING THE CITY AND STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THE INJUSTICE ON THEIR PEOPLE

I DON'T DISCRIMINATE, BUT YOU DON'T SEE A WHITE CLERGY COLLALITION RUNNING AROUND YELLING DISCRIMINATION

As a person who works with teen boys, I can not stress enough how all of us adults need to take time and really listen to kids.  After watching and following the story of the boyscout missing and being found alive and listening to why the young man walked away from camp and the conversation he and his father had before the camp-out brought back a conversation I had with a ten year old boy I was working with.

When I asked him the simple question of  Why did you do what you did to be put in this program?  He told me and then thanked me for being the first real person to take the time to listen to him !!!

A powerful point made by a 10 year old ADHD kid !!!

Take the time to listen to your kids, it's not as scary as you think.

Does anyone have kids that are ADD/ADHD?

How do you handle them?

Do you give them a medicine holiday?

Do they try to blame their ADD/ADHD all the time when they do something wrong?

Is their something special that works for you as a parent?

As a former Explorer Boyscout and Scout leader, I am finding it very disturbing of all the reports over the last few years of Boy scouts becoming lost or being seriously hurt and killed on scout outings.  It seams to me that their is a  lack of responsibility in some of  the scout leaders of today.   I believe in the Boy scouts and what they teach these young kids.  Does the Boyscouts need to toughen the leadership requirments and training for these Scout leaders?

Does anyone else feel the same way as I ?  Are there any present or former scout leaders that have a opinion about this ?

I volunteer to mentor young men(10-18)who are in the court system, who need a adult role model or non judging friend in their life, as most come from single parent homes and get into minor trouble. -------------------------
