With all the worry about led toys and protecting children I must point out a simple irony. Kids use led pencils, something that need at a place they must go to, school. I don't know if their is some impurity that makes pencil led safe or something of that nature. Figured I would just point that out.

"Lead" pencils do not actually have lead in them. (Can't remember exactly what the penicil is - possibly graphite?) I'm sure someone out there knows the answer to this. If there was any lead in pencils, it used to be in the yellow paint on the OUTSIDE of the pencil, but I think they stopped using that kind of paint decades ago.

The actual composition of pencil "lead" is differing degrees of graphite, clay and wax, depending on desired hardness. Really don't know why the called it "lead"?

"With all the worry about led toys and protecting children"-HHK

As if people who are concerned about lead poisoning are being "overprotective"!

Libertarianism is a trully bizaree political ideology, because a land without a certain amount of regulations and law enforcement is a land of chaos, environmental disaster, crime, and other social ills.

The irony of libertarianism is that the more regulations are phased out, and the more laws and government agencies are undermined- the more chaos is created, which in turn requires a new set of regulations, laws, and government agencies to deal with them.

Geez, Gorebash. Its great that you can follow a subject line.

As for the lead....
Even if pencils were still made of lead, children of the age that use them, generally do not eat or chew on them. The same cannot be said of infants and toddlers. Toys with lead paint should be obsolete and for sure banned in this country.
