After hearing of Tower City banning anyone under 18 I couldn't help but consider the following scenario occurring.

After the shopping centers that have banned teens and achieved peace. Other places follow suit. Now anyone under 18 has few places to go, and to many places they must be. Although free to walk or drive where they please, no place to allow them in nor serve them. So they are practically bound to their home and school, given no freedom. After a time, tensions rise and large groups of teens gather and become violent due to the discrimination. Large amounts of damage is done to property during the riots, many teens are arrested, hurt, and a few killed by the large mob.

I really couldn't imagine much of what would happen after that. But I present that hopefully unlikely scenario for consideration. Perhaps you can put yourself in the shoes of those being affected by such a ban.

I agree with you that may very well happen.

However, it also may workout just fine. And kids will stay at home, do better in school and get in less trouble, and the Mall can start to make money. { A life may be saved }

Last, perhaps nothing will happen at all and therefore makes no difference.

One thing we know for sure, the present system is not working.

Have you been to tower city anytime to try a see a movie? The last time I was there with my wife over yrs ago and a riot of teens broke out and mall/Cleveland security asked everyone to leave for their safety.

A year later, someone was stabbed by a teen.

I think kids are still allowed in the mall with their guardians/parents and that is just fine with me. I would never let my kids out to any Mall without my wife or I being

No I haven't been their recently. I'm not too upset if a little kid can't be their without an adult because they are little and can't protect themselves nor do the have a way to get their. I feel sad for the teens who can drive and have every right to be their by themselves but aren't allowed to go in because the Tower City assumes that they will misbehave. Most teens aren't going to act out as it is. I was glad to hear that the teens already working there are still going to keep their jobs, they are just being given a special pass.

Teen employees need "special passes", anyone that looks young will have their ID checked at the door. This just shows we are getting closer and closer to "show me you papers" here in America!

I guess the stores that have teen employees may have to come up with special badges to prove that they work in Tower City. The "show me your papers" statement is already a reality in America and we have to get use to it Polarbear if we like it or not. Now you need a passport to leave and returning to US from Canada and Mexico. Let face it people, the times they are changing.

the mall is private property. so are the stores. i don't blame them for being tired of the "teenager" problem. they are there to make money. years ago, the "teenager" problem is what turned euclid square mall into a dirty flop that no one wanted to go to except the teenagers.

There profits are so low because there is already so much riff raff because parents can't control their monsters and don't teach them respect.

I agree there is a problem with out of control kids at the mall, I've seen it on a few occasions at a certain Akron area mall. However, I think this story shows the stupidity of "zero-tolerance laws". The mall is trying a "one size fits all" cure to a problem. Let's ban all kids under 18. They say there are fights in the mall sometimes, now we'll just have fights outside the mall or elsewhere.

All I see is the mall putting a Band-Aid over a bullet wound. Instead of banning all kids, there should be the proper security and police ready to deal with shoplifters and any other incidents.

no kids in the mall would lead into more robbery else where 'just for fun'.
rehire the police.

How hard is it for a parent to take their kids there to shop? Have you ever tried to walk through the malls when groups of teenagers wont step to the side and act like they have the right away no matter where your walking? The cursing and fighting will be cut down alot, when they will have to act like that in front of their own parents...If there weren't so many unsupervised children; there wouldn't be so many problems. YAY to the ban...I'm loving that they are cleaning out the trash. They need to do it in more places.

polar bear:

you said "All I see is the mall putting a Band-Aid over a bullet wound. Instead of banning all kids, there should be the proper security and police ready to deal with shoplifters and any other incidents."

---if they did that then all you will read about is how "racist" they are for going after certain groups(colors) of teens...even if they are causing the problems...the race card will be played. I feel that by making the parents be with them those children/teenagers will be better behaved and perhaps learn some values they should have when they make their own families.

Katherine kids today if they don't a place to 'hang out' like a mall they might go somewhere else and fight to kill someone or rob them...and then the question would be why were they there?. almost everyone in this blog is thinking about themselves but not once when there were a kid. not once to actually understand being a kid today with these restrictions.

How many inner city teenagers do you really think can afford to make a purchase at Tower City? Here's a thought if they can drive to Tower City to waste time then they can drive to Steelyard Commons and get a JOB at Walmart. Then they won't be so bored.

Mars83---actually, I was thinking about when I was a kid. I guess since I'm only 25, I can remember those days well. Maybe I was just lucky to have a family that cared, but my parents never let me go run wild anywhere. I couldn't go to the mall and cause trouble unless I was with my mom or dad or friends parents.
---If the "kids" go hang out somewhere else and kill someone or rob them, then it will point out even more who the BAD PARENTS are, not just the kids.
The point I'm trying to make is...when any of us go to the mall, and, I'm bringing my 3 babies with me; I dont want to see a bunch of unsupervised teenagers "hanging out". And all the times I've seen these groups of kids...not one of them has a bag like they bought something. They teenagers that are going there without their parents-- are either up at the mall to steal or doing other things behind their parents backs.
This ban is the best thing to happen and they need to do it more places!

Would you please tell the guy that got beat up and robbed in front of tower city center, inside the public square entrance. that he is being selfish? Would you tell that to one of my co-workers who got followed home after cashing her check at tower city center and beat up and robbed? Lastly please tell that to another of my co-workers who again was followed home from tower city center shot and robbed and is now in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

BTW I work in MK Ferguson Plaza. So why not invite all these thugs to hang out at your house?
