The attacks on John McCain can be traced largely to the work of one man, Ted Sampley, of Kinston, NC. The following is a direct quote of the entire chapter about Sampley from Ms. Keating's book;

*** Shortly after war broke out in the Persion Gulf, I received a call from longtime POW activist, Ted Sampley. " Did you hear what happened to Wetzel? ", he asked, " I mean, what really happened to Wetzel?"

Navy Lieutenant Robert Wetzel was an A-6 Intruder pilot shot down on the first day of the war. At the time of Sampley’s call, the airman was listed as missing in action. According to Sampley, that designation was just a cover for the grisly truth:

Wetzel had survived his shoot down, only to parachute directly into a mob of angry Iraqis. Sampley said that the anti-Semetic crowd had assumed from his nametag that Wetzel was Jewish. They had all happened to be carrying knives, so they had carved him up on the spot. Bits of Wetzel’s body had been doled out as souvenirs.

" Tha Pentagon doesn’t want anybody to know about this.", Sampley confided. " But I already told the family."

Wetzel eventually came home, alive and intact. Sampley later admitted he had never entirely believed the story but had told it anyway to publicize the plight of POWs.

Fortunately for Sampley, he did not wake up one morning to find himself surrounded by a crowd of angry Wetzels. In fact, over the course of his long carreer as a MIA rumormonger, Sampley has never received a thrashing either from the Wetzels or from any other family whose grief he has co-opted. ***

To Sampley's way of thinking, that is as it should be. He presents himself as somewhat culpable, but always forgivable; just a likable, big-hearted oaf who sometimes gets carried away by the POW crusade.

Unlike his colleagues who uncover POW "evidence" and solicit funds to embark on rescue missions, Sampley specializes in media manipulation and public relations. He has been invaluable to the activists, who rely on him to fan the flames of existing MIA stories, either through phone calls to legitimate journalists or on the pages of his own newspaper broadsheet, U.S. Veteran News and Report. In addition to his work in support of fellow activists, Sampley specializes in orchestrating stunts that are dramatic and at times dangerous.

So NOW he has decided to take his well documented " Ends Justifies ANY and ALL means " approach and use his talents against John McCain, launching a Wetzel style Smear Campaign that the Left has SO eagerly picked up on..

A LONG drawn out and desparate attempt is being made by the left to discredit McCain in light of the COMPLETE and UTTER FAILURE of Obama’s Trip overseas to produce the desired effects..Indeed,, As Obama seeks,, in his MONUMENTAL ARROGANCE,, the recognition by world leaders as the Presumptive "PRESIDENT of the United States" ( POTUS ) and WE at home watch in AWE as he makes speech after speech reflecting the moveon.org/Micheal Moore view of AMERICA and AMERICANS,, HIS numbers in the polls ACTUALLY continue to drop as a result..

We sat and we WATCHED and listened as he REFUSED to admit that the Surge,, which HE opposed and McCain PUSHED for,, was successful and had ANYTHING to DO with the "Positive" news coming out of Iraq these days..We WONDERED at the News Blackout for the past year and MANY of us posted comments that to the Liberal MSM,,"NO news must mean GOOD news" and we were IMMEDIATELY attacked and called names like Right Wing Nut Jobs,, Bush bootlickers and other more profane labels..We were CONSTANTLY berated and harranged that the War was LOST and that Iraq was a waste of Time..

Obama STILL preaches that EVEN as the MSM distorts the Truth and attempts to Hi-Jack the news from Iraq by placing credit,, by DISTORTING the quotes of Iraqi Officials,, on the shoulders of a Senator with 143 ACTIVE work days behind him..

The contention that McCain is somehow inelligible as a leader based on his experiences as a POW nearly 40 YEARS ago is a BLATANT exploitation and distortion of the facts at hand and is PURELY a result of an extremely Biased and Politically Motivated Agenda..

As far as the reprinting of Sampley’s conclusions are concerned,, it JUST goes to show how FAR the Left is willing to stoop to distract from Obama’s inadequacies as a LEADER and his inept blunders with regard to world affairs..They CANNOT possibly raise Obama above the level that HE’S capable of so the next best thing is to SMEAR the other guy..

In THIS case, a REAL American Hero by the name of John McCain…

And Hey,, I say this and as I have posted MANY times,, I don’t EVEN like the guy.. But I HATE Liars even MORE…
