So here we are in San Francisco and what a day Wednesday was in this city by the bay!

Angry anti-Chinese protestors. Strong pro-Chinese voices! People screaming at each other and, all the while, the city was pulling the ultimate fake out. Sure, the mayor said for a earlier in the week that there might be a new route. That security concerns might drive them to have the torch travel in a different direction and that's what happened. When it finally made its appearance the torch showed up on streets with no people lining the sidewalks. The torch runners protected by an amphibious duck in the front and jogging police on either side.

Sure, there were people who wanted to use the relay as a stage, but there were others (lots of others) who just wanted to see the torch. Afterall, San Francisco would be the only American stage for it. At the end of the day, it went every which way except the original route. Lots of people were disappointed.

Given that there were no big incidents, no arrests, no injuries you have to wonder if the city could of handled the torch run as it was originally planned. Or, was it a case (as one woman told me) of San Francisco just being too scared. Either way, it wasn't what it was supposed to be and that made for a strange day.

What do you think about the way it was handled?

shyboy,

ha ha ha They should be separate, but they're not. However, what's funny is, the Leftist/Communists out protesting Communist China's Government. The torch is another example of Communist China NOT helping with the Global Warming situation....

The city was scared and should have gone ahead with the route as planned. This event happens once every four years and this was the only time the torch was going to be in this country. I'm sure there are a lot of people who were disappointed that they didn't see it. Beef up security and have the guts to go through with it as planned.

Thats a tough call. But I think I would have to agree with ddain. Have more security and set barriers to keep all of the public away from the streets. It could have been done.

I don't know why, but that torch going down the streets reminds me of Michael Jackson jogging, and who wouldn't want to see the pop singer all lit up for the public like when he sang Thriller? Oh well, I'll settle for the torch, in another 4 years. Maybe a dragon will light up the next one?

Well,

I think the key word here is "Angry"!

For a change, the angry is not directed at us but must be dealt with.

Our society in its blind fury, has set itself up as Daddy figure and must set a good example.

Avoid the trouble has been the rule of thumb!

But for, conviction in some family abuse issues; man has to hide and seek so to sneak out a back window, to the point of maybe having to lock the door to keep her away.

Other wise, even an accidentally hurt female, will get a male associate life. Life of being a convicted Domestic Violence...

SO; since you asked, what painted into a corner choice did the city have?

My,

I have to say the thought of how the World has over reacted; instead of, acted like adults concerning "Separation of State and Church" now it wants to gobble up Politics and Olympics.

Where will it end?

Key word here is "Acted".

I was happy with simply keeping the church out of my president's lap. And restricting the church to not selling sex for Heavenly Rights or Political Favors!

Now one cannot even study the Bible or any other religious book! How IGNORANT.

They should have followed the original route. Just added security. China brought the bad publicity on itself.
