The latest Rasmussen poll shows that if the general election were held today Hillary Clinton would take California and not just by a eyelash! She beats the competition in all parties largely because of her strength among female and young voters. BUT .. this isn't your average election cycle. There is no incumbent. This sort of thing hasn't happened since 1952 so, there's not a lot of experience with what that means.

It might mean that if there were a terrorist attack, a big mistake on the campaign trail .. something strangely out of the norm -- all bets are off! Given that, how volatile do you think the next few months might be until our primary here in California and, of course, until we choose a new President of the United States?

This country is in the shiiter for the next five years...per Greenspan...Hillary or Obama...doesn't matter.

I'm tired of fighting...just gonna wait it out, take it easy and say f-it.

Have a nice night Hal.

Yeah, according to American Research Group telephoned 600 in a random sample.

Hillary has 33% of Democratic support. John Edwards has 16%, Obama has 22% and Biden has 5%. But the wildcard, the undecided voter has 15%. I looked at trends since Jan and by extrapolation I prognosticate Hilary has 33% in Feb, John Edwards has 16%, Obama continues losing support to 16% and Biden increases to 20%. Since undecideds are decidedly not Hilary supporters, I decided on a lark to give their votes to Biden. Biden takes California with 35%, Hilary is runner-up with 33%. I have no feelings about terrorism in the next few months and I have no feelings about how terrorism would affect Democratic voters.

I'd like to emphasize, it is a long way from Santa Monica to the Potomac River. Moogie, you live and breathe all those electoral college statistics! or are you one those intellectuals who thrives on Pat O'Briens hot dish on Access Hollywood? I wonder if Hal wants to peruse the historic record of when California's favorite Democratic candidate did not win the nomination. I'd check it out myself, but I don't have any interest in Presidential elections. I like the local elections. I vote for member of congress. I vote for senators. but i have no idea who would make a good president. i do not even like to think about who would make a good governor. I didn't like Grey Davis because he looked so nerdy and his name was weird. then when the electricity prices from out-of-state when skyhigh it seemed as if he was a wimp. he should have sent the Calif National Guard into Nevada to take power by force. this might have created some kind of constitutional violation, but it would have shown me that the Governor had balls. i would be willing to let the senate choose a president. maybe what would be cool would be to create new elected positions of regional advisor to the president. so in southern california, our regional advisor would be responsible for communicating our needs to the white house. say there were ten of these advisors from across the nation, they could comprise an advisory team which would be separate from the president's cabinet. the advisor could have frequent contact with congressmen and senators from within their region. i post this for thought provocatio

Huh--no Paul you have me wrong. I hate politics and distrust almost all politicians--so many of them have proven me wrong over the years. I put myself on sort of a macrobiotic, politics-free diet, and feel much better. I failed to vote in the last presidential election, for the first time in my life. I do vote for my locals though. I want to make sure children stay in school, old people aren't victimized, veterans get medical care, and the rest of us are left in peace.

Agriculture interests me though.

Hey Paul you talk a good game, don't stop.

Hillary locks the big enchilada, however when she goes up against a conservative, outside of L.A. and Frisco (I know the word frisco drives bay area people zonkers :p ) the rest of California is pretty conservative, unless of course illegals can vote legally, the next thing coming down the pike.

Hillary wins California as far as the Dems go because voters here like voting for women who are not good in public office (like Boxer and Feinstein). That being said, it will be tough for the Dems to win the Presidency if the economy remains solid and progress is made in Iraq. Plus, the fact that they can't shake the description that they are soft on terror won't help.

Solid? The Fed just had to cut interest rates because things are going down hill. With Al Qaeda getting stronger I have a feeling that the moderate progreess the surge making will be undermined by the greater growth in terrorist strength.

I say stop playing around with these crappy little countries and just nuke the bad ones. Bad as that may sound, the Bomb for the last fifty plus years has been the best friend we have. Time to use it. I see Venezuela and Iran as prime candidates. Than reassemble our old Neutron bombs and begin a mass build up. Disarming has only shown that others who hate us are willing to fill the vacuum with nukes themselves. uh, Demboy, Clinton's economy numbers were lower than the current admin's, so the tax cuts are working. Do you remember JFK. He was a Dem and one of his early actions was cutting taxes. The Democrats of today are not the Democrats of old nor are the Republicans. Both have been on a downhill slide, however if you are going to hell, you must pick your mode of transport there. With the Dems you get the "Fast train to hell" and with the "current" Republican batch you get the "Slow train to hell" Its all going there anyhow so take your pick!

Demboy, actually the fed has always adjusted interests rates regardless of what party was in the whitehouse. That is one way they manipulate the economy at least in more modern times. I mean Ike, Kennedy, even Carter with his recessions, had guys who adjusted interests rates to try maintain the economy. The rate cut was a good move and for the near term is actually working. So Bush's guy is doing the right thing.

The economy is solid. Is it really the fault of our government if interest rates were cut because people got in over their heads with interest-only loans that are now going up? No. Mortgage lenders and home buyers got greedy and got busted.

The stock market is exceptionally high, we haven't had a recession in 7 years, unemployment is under 5%. Yep, that is solid.

Getting back to the point of Hal's blog here....Hillary has a great chance of winning in this state, that loves to vote for liberal women (again, see Boxer and Feinstein). She's in bed with some powerful donors from this state too, so she'll have plenty of money from the Hollywood moguls here to spend throughout the rest of the country.

LA Times

Nearly two dozen private hospitals in Los Angeles and Orange counties, accounting for up to 15% of beds in the region, are in dire financial straits and in danger of bankruptcy or closure, according to hospital administrators, industry experts and state data.

The troublesome development follows the closure of community clinics and hospitals in recent years that has left the healthcare system seriously overburdened.

If even a few other hospitals close or reduce costly critical-care services, it could mean longer ambulance rides to hospitals, additional delays in emergency rooms and less access to care, especially for poor and uninsured people.

Among the hospitals in poor financial health, according to industry analysts, are Downey Regional Medical Center, Centinela Freeman Health System in Inglewood, Brotman Medical Center in Culver City, Century City Doctors Hospital and four Orange County hospitals owned by Santa Ana-based Integrated Healthcare Holdings Inc. including Chapman Medical Center in Orange and Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, one of three trauma centers in the county.

In interviews, senior executives at Centinela and Downey said they were considering closing their emergency rooms. Downey’s chief operating officer, Rob Fuller, added that his hospital could close entirely as early as next year if its financial picture didn’t improve soon.

“It’s fasten your seat belt it’s going to be a bumpy ride time,” said James Lott, executive vice president of the Hospital Assn. of Southern California, a trade association.

I got this email from a reliable source. Calls were 50 to 1 against. Now Reid is going to push for it.

________________

on KABC “The Al Rantel Show” at (10:00pm EST, 7:00pm PST) to discuss the now-shelved
DREAM Act which would have provided immediate legal residency, a path to citizenship and full access to all federal and public financial aid for illegal alien students and their families. Late last night Senator Dick Durbin realized he didn’t have enough support for this bill and it was withdrawn from the Department of Defense Appropriations Bill to which it was attached. Of course, not accepting defeat, Sen. Harry Reid has said today that they will try to get it passed and latched on to another bill in November. Senate staffers have said off-the-record that calls were 50 to 1 against the DREAM Act. Apparently, Sen. Reid, and the National Council of La RAZA just don’t get that the overwhelming majority of Americans are against rewarding illegal aliens with the benefits and privileges of legal residency and citizenship while at the same time compromising not only the safety, health and welfare of American citizens and law-abiding immigrants but also as in the DREAM Act, jeopardizing American students’ ability to finance their college dreams.
