Okay .. talk to me! Did you want to see Barry Bonds make history here? Are you following his chase to break Hank Aaron's record?

Right now, we're at Dodger Stadium. Its the bottom of the 9th. The Dodgers are down 3 runs. The bases are loaded.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh the tension!

While we wait ... let me tell you about these last three days of tension. Photographer Armando Hernandez and I got the tough assignment. Go to the baseball game. Cover Barry Bonds Hank Aaron tying homer ... if it happens.

Tuesday, Armando and I criss-crossed Dodger Stadium. We tried to find anyone who liked Barry Bonds. A 14 year old told us he’s “a bonehead!” Another Dodger fan called Bonds “a jerk.” Tonight ... one teen called him "a jerk and a bonehead!" OUCH!

But, tonight something different. Lots of fans admitted they really hoped Bonds would hit the homer so they could see a little history even if they didn't like him or that he was the guy who would go into the record books.

Back to the game ... one run in ... Dodgers on second and third ... its 4 to 2.

Part of what made the Bonds phenom so interesting for some was the chance to dive for the big "glamour" ball that could bring big bucks. People out in right field (his usual target) had all kinds of plans.

We even ran into a few friends who had --- get this -- drawn up a contract on how to split any money that would come from the sale of it if they caught it.

Look .. everyone agrees the ball that marks homer #755 will be worth a lot. Who wouldn’t want it. Armando said he’d like to catch it. Heck – me too! But, love Bonds or hate him such a moment would be history.

As one Giant fan told me "It'll happen." It will somewhere -- someday! As for this week's Dodger-Giant series ...

Night One: Dodgers: LOSE
                    Bonds: NOTHING

Night Two: Dodgers: WIN
                    Bonds: NOTHING

Tonight -- Night three: (Game is over) Dodgers: Lose .. 4 to 2

             Bonds: NOTHING!

So, what does Barry Bonds think? Its hard to know. I know this: Tuesday night he walked right by us. I said “How are you feeling?” He said … NOTHING!

Now, your turn for some thoughts ...

I'm glad Barry didn't break the record here. I think he's terrorized the Dodgers enough over his career. I mean, he's hit plenty of homers against them.

I don't think he has the guts to do it on the road, so I'd be shocked if he did it in San Diego this weekend. He'll wait until he gets back in San Francisco to go for it.

It would be funny if Glavine won his 300th, or A-Rod hit his 500th on the same night, which would take some of the light away from Barry. That would be the ultimate middle finger to him.

hey dd, I'm glad he didn't break it here either. I think he didn't want a Dodger fan to profit from the breaker ball. I don't like Bonds, if you have to illegaly inhance yourself to break a record then he doesn't deserve to be recognized. Would he be admitted to the Baseball Hall of Fame? if so could what Pete Rose be that bad? He cheated, Bonds cheated?
I'm just sayin....

The difference is that we have facts that Pete Rose cheated. There's proof that he didn't pay his taxes and bet on baseball. One is a legal problem, one a baseball one.

Although most of us feel that Barry took these creams (just look at the guy) there isn't any, and probably never will be, any definitive proof that he took steroids.

Mark McGwire will be a precedent of sorts, since he took substances (some legal at the time) to get enhanced. He didn't make the Hall of Fame this year.

Actually I would like to have reported this little piece of baseball history had it happened at Dodger Stadium. Now, my colleague Phil Shuman is in San Diego to follow the action. We'll be able to catch his stories on the news tonight and this weekend. And, Brenda you know at some point its going to be

BONDS: Something

So, will it be special when he ties and then breaks the record?

Yeah Hal ,just to bad though it is just so controversial if it was a clean record then ok.
Mr.McGwire just so sad too not have the respect for him would love to but then drugs.
Bonds is something and make it clean then people will respect him way more.
He will get it! It is so there but is it steroids?? or Bonds how about,

BONDS:Something
STEROIDS:All LOL Brenda

This is sure a perplexing topic. I love baseball, and I respect Mr. Hank Aaron for his amazing record! He did it on his own with less then stellar equipment, always dealing with negative harassment. What a guy! Then you have Barry a talented ball player that took a chance on adding something extra to bulk up his strength. Could he have accomplished this goal without help? I don't know. He can still hit the ball out of the park even though his neck has lost it's bulk.
Is Bonds record equal to Hank Aaron’s record absolutely not! So the question is," What do you do with Barry Bonds?"

Well his record was the only time I saw Him talk Last night was expected "The Record"to bad it will be so overshadowed with McGwire and those who did get into steroids !If its not tainted like he said there will always be that shadow to bad too cuz it was a big deal in our sports history and this could take away the whole game of baseball.Fans in L.A. and any where but San Francisco gave him a hard time. Next will be your own opinion. Brenda

Last night was the first time I heard Barry talk with gratitude and humility.
We all know that it isn’t easy for celeb’s to express their real thoughts when interviewed. Usually the reporter leaves out the important words that identify the true feelings of the person speaking. Congrat’s Barry on your personal Victory!

Like Brenda and Mel my ears perked up when I heard Barry Bonds speak. I stood next to the man on the field at Dodger stadium and had no idea what his voice even sounded like. He never would talk to us. I'm on my way back from a story with photographer Gary Brainard and he wanted to add a thought here. Says Gary: "whether of not he used steroids it was a history making event and if the title is someday taken away that too will be a history making event."

Bonds IS one of the biggest jerks around. But, you have to let this stuff go. The record will always be tainted, but he has gone up to the plate, and swung the bat. Let it go!!

I personally think that Barry Bonds did not breaking the home run record steroid free. It was reported that he did test for steroids but,,,,,,,, he went to his own personal doctors. Did anyone else hear that?? If that is true that shouldn’t have been allowed. Barry should have been forced to go an outside testing facility out of his own personal network. We all know that doctors are not all upstanding physicians. It is so heartbreaking as a fan that all these athletes don’t follow ethical and moral values to gain their achievements in their careers naturally with out enhancements. It’s down right CHEATING period. Barry Bonds breaking a record means nothing to me. Barry Bonds home run record should not be acknowledged in the Hall of Fame unless he is tested for steroid use and the results come back clean.
