Well, it's been a little over a month since 'Ike' dropped by. It's also been a month since I last saw Connor. Connor, his mother and I had evacuated to College Station. My husband had stayed to keep watch over our residence. We could only get back into Baytown on 09/16. We had spent the night at a local shelter and were going over to our apartment to survey the damage. As I parked the car, Connor's mother would not get out of the back seat nor let Connor get out. (she had been in a very mean & 'bossy' mood with him leading up to this point) To make a long story short - she freaked out on me (maybe the stress of all of the travelling and staying at shelters brought her to this point) Connor started screaming as if he had been hurt so I went to get him out of his car seat and she grabbed my arm and pulled it away from him. She started cussing me out, calling me names nobody should ever call anyone - least of all their mother. Along came my husband, as he could hear her all the way inside the apartment. She got out of the car and came after me and decked me!!! Connor got out of the car and ran to his Grandpa. She then called 911 saying SHE got attacked and WE wouldn't let her have her son!!!!! What she didn't realize was that there were people watching the whole thing so that when the police arrived they backed up our story without our knowledge.
The last time we saw Connor, he was screaming to stay with us - he did not want to go with his mother!!! She received a ticket for 'family violence' and the police took her and Connor back to the shelter. Two days later, Connor's Mother - along with Connor's Dad and other Grandpa - broke into the apartment and took things that did NOT belong to her, including ALL of my canned goods and food in the pantry that had not been ruined! They were seen and identified! Let me tell you, we've been thanking the Lord for MRE's and the Red Cross P.O.D.'s where they served hot meals, because if it had not been for their efforts we would not have been able to eat. Baytown was pretty much dead because of no electricity and no grocery stores were open for awhile.
It's been a long hard road to get to this point, because not only have we lost all of our furniture, our freezer which was full, and our food pantry - the biggest loss is Connor (again). I know that history repeats itself, and I know that God is going to work it out for our good (and Connor's) - it's just the waiting that gets rough. So, if you're a Christian who believes as I do, please pray for Connor's safety. He's living 300 foot from a river and he's allowed to run loose unsupervised. Trouble has a way of finding unsupervised children!

Political
I'm posting this under 'Political' because I feel like this is a good example of certain types of 'politics'.......
Ok, so the majority of us have had our turn with experiencing life w/o electricity - right? Well, we are STILL experiencing the 'no power' lifestyle. It all started with our famous visitor, Ike. A tornado tore the roof off of our building, causing the building to be condemned because of the damage caused. This brought about a forced move to another unit on our property.
Since all of our furniture, freezer, washer, dryer, towels and sheets were ruined either by nasty water coming thru from the upstairs apt. or by ceilings caving in, we really didn't have near as much to move. Now, here's the kicker: power was restored to our complex last weekend. Our power company, Direct Energy, said it would be Monday, Sept. 29th when ours would be on. Ok - no problem - we could deal with some type of a definite date. We were told the time would be somewhere from 7:00 am until midnight. Okay - well, we went to bed - PRAYING that when we got up in the morning we would welcome power. No such luck!!! After much frustration and threats to go move into the apt. mgr.'s office, my husband called D.E. and they said it was not them, it was CENTERPOINT!!!! So, he called C.P. and - get this - according to them NO NEW ACCOUNTS UNTIL THE WHOLE CITY OF BAYTOWN WAS RESTORED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're not a new account - just a transfer. And not by choice, by necessity! But to them, we're new. So, folks, here we 'sit', wondering WHY the other transfers all have power except us. Something is just not adding up!!!

Bringing you up to date: Connor and his mother have been living with us, in a small 950 sq. ft. 2 bedroom apt. with only ONE bathroom, going on 5 months now. To say that things have not changed would be ludicrous and simply not true! Not only am I a wife, mother and grandmother - now I am also the chief chauffeur, secretary, cook, laundress and personal shopper to name a few other 'hats' that I'm wearing!!! Oh, let's not forget 'dr. grandma'....LoL!!! Am I complaining - oh no! I am just so amazed at the way God works things out that I am in a constant state of 'awe'. So many people judge success in life by how many material items and $$$ a person accumulates. I've found a true peace and happiness in 'doing' for others. There are days when I feel as if I haven't sat down from early morning until late at night, but you know what? it's ok! We're not here for what we can do for ourselves - we're here for what we can do for each other!!! A lot of people have fussed at me because of certain health issues I've had; that the excess stress will aggravate them. Well, for some 'strange' reason I am holding up to the extra workload - thank you Lord! It is so true that he doesn't 'call the equipped, He equips the called'!!!

Hello there!
I have tried and tried to get down to 'business' and post something here....but, with an active 3 year-old in the house (apt.) and his mother who needs my chauffering services, who can think??? LoL!!!
Now that I have said all that, let me bring you up-to-date: my daughter, Connor's mother, finished job corps in San Marcos and came home in time for Christmas. She and Connor's father supposedly set their differences aside and married in January. In February he 'laid hands' on her, leaving her with a black eye and a bite on the arm! A police report was filed. They went back together. In April he did it again, only this time with a major 'sock' in the jaw leaving a lump about the side of a golf ball. He had threatened to take a hammer to her head the day before and she carried scratches on her throat and choking marks of where he tried to strangle her. I thank the Lord that she could get away. She filed charges - again! Pictures were taken, he spent time in Baytown jail and then to Harris county. Since there was a family violence history, he had to serve @ 30 days. During the time he was incarcerated we got a Protective Order that was for 61 days. He was to appear in court for the 2 year P.O. on the day after he was released but he was a 'no-show', so now he cannot come within 200 feet of us or Connor. Since they live with us, we are covered by the P.O. also! It's amazing how God works these things out sometimes!!!

Well, by now people are either taking down their Christmas trees or making plans to do so - but at our house, the tree is still standing with presents still wrapped and unopened laying beneath it. You see, the 'grinch' is still alive - in the form of my grandson's father. My daughter, Connor's mother, is home from Job Corps having finished her course. Looking forward to having Connor for Christmas is what helped her get thru the gruelling schedule in San Marcos.
It's a long story but basically he lied to us - again - about when we would be able to pick up Connor. We were supposed to get him @ noon on Christmas day. I even drove from Baytown to Dayton to pick him up: they refused to release him to us!!! We are so frustrated and tired of this mess but have no funds to retain a lawyer, so we need for God to work a miracle of some kind as only He can do. Some people just love to inflict hurt and pain on others. They truly are 'sick in the head' and definitely listening to the 'wrong voices' that plant these ideas in their heads!!!
