Looks like 4 new nuclear power plants have been given the thumbs up from the state!  That means our power bills will begin to go up by about 4% per year for the next 10 years to pay for the construction.  Check out the article:

Nuclear is not the bad stuff it was 30 years or more ago... Much cleaner and safer.

Oy vey! Why not solar power? We are the Sunshine State after all. Why not wind power? We've got a seemingly endless supply of tall buildings and miles and miles of coastline for the windmills/turbines. Look at all the energy we could bank during an active hurricane season.
Is this the renewable resource for which FPL gives its customers the opportunity to pay $9.75 a month extra?
It says rates will increase 4% each year during construction, but does not state if the rate will go back to pre-construction level when the plants go online. Sounds a lot like another Bee Line toll fiasco to me.
Who wants something that is so toxic that it is discussed in terms of "half-life"? Not I.
Oh well, no matter. Florida is going to be a natural reef again come 12-21-2012 anyway.

Solar panels and hurricane force winds....that will go over well.

We do it every day Dan.

I am all for nuclear power but like crone said, where is the money for renewables like solar and wind?

Mark my words, you will have solar and wind, it's just a matter of how bad it gets before someone gets off their ass and starts building the plants. You don't have to be a genius to figure this out.

If we don't change directeion now, we are headed for a different kind of nuclear power. The kind that ride on top of missiles.

BTW, I know some folks that have built reactors. The waste of money and manpower is staggering due to the dangerous nature of nuclear power. The same welds that cost a few thousand on any other project will cost tens of thousands of dollars on a reactor.

It would be a lot cheaper to go ahead and put up some sun and wind farms right now.

People like Dan are always knocking solar and wind, yet they speak in ignorance.

I wish people would do a little research before opening their pie holes.

My son-in-law and grandson are building the one up in Palatka, as we speak. At least I think it's nuclear.

I like the idea of the wind farms. We could line them puppies all up and down the coastal zones and pick up the seabreeze. Once the turbines are built...they just keep pumping out the juice for decades. However, I don't know how many you would need to build to equal the power generated by nuclear? I have family up in Indiana where a big wind farm is currently being built. Here ia a look at them:

Hey Glenn, please check your email. I am pretty confident I sent it to the correct address just a short time ago.

Don't mess with my forecasts!! It's been an excting ride here in Central Florida in our wild world of weather. It's started with the storm of the century in 1993 and continues today.....
