GRAYWOLF's Brain Farts

Yes, I know, not a literal use of the phrase, but you get the idea...

For those of you not familiar with the term "jump the shark", it stems from Happy Days in the waning seasons they had a episode where Fonzie jumped a shark on skis. This has come to symbolize the beginning of the end for something in the entertainment industry when it has outlived its lifespan.

I use the phrase  today in reference to KZPS folding and running commercials again. They have been running some idiotic cell phone commercial for a couple of weeks now (not sure what company).

Redbeard did a decent job setting up the station to function without traditional commercials and playing an great combination of compatible music from the genres of classic rock and modern "Texas Country" (not really country, but that is what the industry calls it). I say "decent" job because they seemed to get stuck in ruts of one artist or another. First it was ZZ Top and SRV, then Springsteen and most recently, Johnny Cougar/Melonhead...er..uh camp.

Redbeard has forced me to tune out in the afternoons because of his idiotic diversion from music to politics, playing soundbites from artists that contradict themselves or are just clueless about this government and the Constitution.

Maybe KZPS hasn't "jumped the shark", just Redbeard has! I'll still listen to Bo & Jim as I always have, unless KZPS flips back to playlists of 20 songs.

Clear Channel (CC) management stated that they had no timeline for profitibility or ratings, but it looks like they have decided to give up on the "commercial free" format.

I think they are close to jumping the shark. I don't care for them anymore.... But - I never know any of those "hybrid country" songs they play. I think a lot of people don't know them - and not many like listening to stuff that is NOT new that they don't know.

They should have left it the way it was.

Like the old saying - if it AIN'T broke, don't fix it.

I agree if you are talking about the old stuff (Waylon, Willie, etc). I think they would have done much better without them...

Yep - that is exactly what I am talking about - I do like Waylon and Willie - but they had a lot of unknowns on there (by me anyway) that I think lost them a lot of listeners.

I knew I'd heard that term before!!

I've run across some songs I haven't heard in years and even tried to listen to them in the mornings but Bo & Jim need a new schtick (sp). I rushed to change the channel when they brought back out characters that I remember back in the 80's.......(dating myself, I know).

I worked at the building that KZPS is located at for about a year.

At that time they had the biggest bunch of jerks as D.J.'s I'd ever seen in my life.

They once had a nice format but that went down the tubes real fast.

I loved KZPS when it was Classic Rock. When I'm in a Rock mood, I don't want to hear Waylon and when I'm in a country mood I don't want to hear Motley Crue. When I need a mix of genres, I go to Jack or I plug in the iPod. I had to take KZPS off my presets when they changed formats.

I like to play devil's advocate. You will often find me using Socratic irony, just for fun. Comments to posts aren't necessarily my position on a subject. I like to try to make people think of the other side of the issue. Don't read anything into my statements. If I didn't state it, I probably didn't mean it that way!
