Be kind to meteorologists......

    Having a meteorology degree, I catch it all the time from people.  "oh, what TV station are you with?" (I don't work in TV--not skinny or attractive enough!)  "oh, so you're a weather girl?"  "you all are always wrong!" "hey, can you order me a sunny day for tomorrow?" "they really blew the forecast yesterday!!"   (*sigh*)  I think what people don't realize is that meteorology is truly NOT an exact science, and for good reason.  You're taking a TON (and I mean a TON) of of variables from geology and hydrology and oceanography and atmosphere, sticking them in to some complicated equations on a computer, and then going from there.  In simple, trying to capture Mother Nature on a computer, then try to predict what she's going to do.  She has a tendency to laugh at stuff like that.  "You humans are trying to do what??!"  Thus, forecasters end up holding the empty bag.... looking like they're real mess ups, but in reality, they tried their best to recognize what in the heck she's doing. 

  Granted, I'm really "out" of the forecast part now... I got out of that about 10 years ago.  I'm a perfectionist, and had even worse self esteem back then.... I'm a very "all or nothing" sort of person. The uncertainty part ended up being too hard to take. 

   But, the next time you meet a real, college degree holding forecaster, be easy on them. They're trying their best!  It's Mother Nature who's being unpredictable...............

Are you really trying so hard to write and talk about this post to impress Jillian Barberie Reynolds and Amy Murphy . Because if you are I think you need to live a day in the life of a weather girl .

O.K. IF METEOROLOGY ISNT AN EXACT SCIENCE, THEN WHY DO YOU EVEN TRY? WHY DOES THE JOB EXIST? I AM A LAND SURVEYOR, AND IF I WAS WRONG AS MUCH AS THE WEATHERMEN, I WOULD BE DEALING WITH LAWSUITS, GET FIRED, LOSE MY LICENSE, YOU NAME IT. I WISH I COULD PAID TO [...] UP EVERY DAY. NOT HAVE ANY INTEGRITY OR ACCOUNTABILITY. NOW THAT WOULD BE NICE!

Odenton, MD, where I currently reside, is a little suburban town between 3 big towns.... one the capital of the United States, one the capital of Maryland, and one a big working class Maryland city (namely Baltimore). I am a college educated person, with a Bachelor of Science (major: meteorology, minor: mathematics), and with a Microsoft certification (MCSE). I am facing my 40th birthday this year. (*sigh*) My favorite My Fox LA TV show, of course, is "Good Day LA". I loooove the "Knock Knock Makeovers" on Mondays. I wanted to be a hairdresser when I was very young. In the early 80's, José Eber's work came to my attention. I've been a strong advocate of his work ever since! I do enjoy traveling. I've visited the LA area 3 times, and will be going a 4th time at the end of the year.
