Looks like maybe, just maybe, New Orleans has learned their lesson!!  Maybe they figured out the need to evacuate early!!  Maybe, just maybe, they learned THEY are responsible for the first 3 days after a disaster, because everyone knows and has always been told it will take FEMA that long to arrive (you can't stage rescue supplies and equipment in the anticipate disaster area)!!!!!

It seems their new govenor has taken charge and is trying to do things right.  I hope I'm right and whereever it hits, everyone will be ok.

What I cant figure out is why would people want to live in New Orleans since it is below sea level in the first place.

I agree and I feel that they should hunt down ms. Blanko (?) and make sure she waits the hurricane out on the docks. I also think that the new governor has given Nagen expressed orders this time to avoid his failure last time. I still say that he and the former governor should be held accountable for all the loss of life from Katrina.

Maybe, just maybe, Bush and McCain learned their lesson too! It seems this time around, they'll be less likely to meet for birthday cake and back-patting on a tarmac in Arizona, as they did on the day Katrina hit New Orleans. Nice to see they've figured it this time, though it was a no-brainer for anyone with a modicum of common sense and compassion last time. And maybe -- just maybe -- this time around, McCain won't vote against relief measures, investigations into government failures in emergency response or additional funding for first responders' communication systems, as he did in the wake of Katrina.

Ahhhh, now I understand. You are just a Bush hater sensiblejoe. McCain didn't vote against relief measures. He voted against additional relieve measures after these people had already been give the moon and were wasting what they were given. (anyone else remember trailers that were kept for YEARS past the turn in date, and returned stripped of all plumbing and fixtures?) And how do you investigate a response problem when their governor never asked for help? That wouldn't actually be called a response. And since when is it the governments job to spend MY tax dollars to pay for police equipment in another state.

At some point in time we need to stop blaming Bush for everything and realize the president doesn't actually have that much power.

Anyone with any sense knows it was a failure of New Orleans and the state that caused the problems after Katrina. They were NOT prepared. They had, or implemented NO plan. There was no exacuation.

The biggest difference this year...a Republican govenor...

Not even close! LA has learned NOTHING ! If you watch they are still saying the same party idiocy as they where after Katrina. Of great interest is the idea that NO STATE can ever do ANYTHING without federal help ! What a load of BS ! ...yes Bush learned a lesson and that lesson is : Blue states are willing to KILL their own people as long as they have a shot at making someone els the scape goat.
...we have a storm coming next week , shall I go out front and start screaming “wheres my bus”! And make sure I get on TV complaining that the “FED” is not doing enough for me (as long as there is a Republican in the white house that is! So soon you all forget , we had a huge storm hit Miami and Bill Clinton refused to declare it a disaster...but the national “media” never bothered to ask him ANY questions about it) ...

Born and raised in Tampa, I'm a 5th generation Fla Native and proud of it! My mom raised 6 of us by herself, in a time long before welfare and food stamps. She worked 3 jobs, which is probably where I learned my work ethic and my distain for people who are too lazy to work and "expect" their welfare checks and food stamps year after year, generation after generation! I spent over 20 years in the Air Force, going in during Viet Nam and leaving after Gulf 1, and have a son currently in the Army preparing for deployment to Iraq. The loves of my life are my wife, kids, grandkids and the Harley (not necessarily in that order, but don't tell the wife, kids or grandkids)!! When not working on my second "career", I ride with a group called the Patriot Guard (patriotguard.org), attending the funerals of our heros who gave their lives for our freedoms. Most in our organization use our "personal days" or "without pay" to attend with permission of the family, and are proud to do it!! This group started because of people such as those at Westboro Baptist "Church" who began protesting these funerals with signs such as "thank God for dead soliders". NEVER AGAIN!!! Yep, I'm a right wing, conservative redneck. I don't like people using abortion as birth control. I think the ACLU is the worst thing that ever happened to this great country. I think 99% of the lawyers give the rest of them a bad name. I promise that if you come into my house in the middle of the night you will be carried out and buried. I think no one should be on welfare for more than 2 years during their life I don't think I should have to pay to support your kids fathered by someone whose name you don't know. I think every county should have a jail just like the Sheriff in Maricopa County AZ with tents and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I don't care if what i say offends you. I think illegals should be put on a bus and taken back across the boarder. I don't think I should have to press 1 for English. I think you have the right to burn our flag, but I promise you won't be successful if I'm around and don't care if I get sent to jail while your left-wing, liberal, Michael Moore, Rosie, Alec Baldwin America haters cheer!!!! I will PROUDLY go to jail to protect HER!!! If we disagree here, that's fine. You have to right to be wrong. I don't take it personal and hope you don't either.
