Hey!! First time blogger here!!! Be nice!!

So besides being responsible for what is happening on the show; as the Director of Good Day La, I also select the majority of the music we play . From Steve's classic rock and oldies, to Jillian's hip hop, Ricks alternative, or Dorothy's ANYTHING WITH BONO!! I try to incorporate the "whats new" or even the "not so new" depending on the direction the show might be taking. I think it sets the mood.

Music is very important to me and I spend many hours searching and listening for songs that might work. Which brings me to a song that a colleague of mine brought to my attention. She is Duffy and the song is called "Mercy. I thinks its great and we will l be playing it on GDLA very soon.

Check her video out on youtube!

I love hearing about music, so if you have any ideas of music that would work for the show, post it!! I would love to hear your suggestions.

please, please please play some tunes from the colour. they are a l.a. indie rock band. very cool stuff. great songs selections for the show are "can't you hear it call", "save yourself", and "kill the lights".

also def leppard's versions of "waterloo sunset" and "hanging on the telephone" are great tunes from their "yeah!" album.

i also suggest some HIM songs like "pretending" and"the funeral of hearts". pretty much anything from the bravery, ok go, kasabian, and jet. there is a bunch of cool tunes from all of those bands. i guess when it rains, you guys should play a song from the cult entitled "rain". such a great song, and i love the cult period. great band. but i hope you take my advice, cuz we need a bit more rock in the morning. it always gets me pumped in the morning. i will check out "mercy" by duffy and let ya know what i think. catch ya later. great blog.

frances: welcome to the blogosphere. i want all your fans to know that you are really a tough taskmaster who keeps the on-air talent cringing in mortal fear...of you and your musical tastes. by the way, does it make sense, music-maven, to play brahms lullabys while jillian does the weather in a low-cut outfit?

Music that would work for the show, well not the rap or hip hop, most people associate that with gang bangers. How about "Northern Soul" which is increasingly becoming popular. If you do not know what it is, look it up on youtube or google...cheers, oh that lil red button with the white "X" is so sweet!

Anything from Jack Johnson would be great. He has a new CD out,it is called "Sleep through the Static" something from that would be good. I know you have a Jack fan on the set. Dorothy likes him too.

Hi Francis...I have a question about the show that only you can possibly answer.

I watch the show from time to time and never hear any Beatles, Zeppelin, Doors, AC/DC music...is that stuff so heavily copyrighted that you can't use it? Is there any music that you either can't air, or is just too expensive to do so?

Lookup "Northern Soul" on youtube and scope out the sounds, particularly from about 1964 through 1969. This is a very fast moving trend I believe is gaining a worldwide status rapidly. Not sure why, but the Motown sound is making a great big comeback. Here are a few links to check out.
