I'm still undecided on how to vote on a couple of amendments on the ballot. So I'm looking for some input.

First, the measure on amending the state constitution. As I understand it, approval would mean 60% of voters would have to approve of a measure instead of just 51%. At first blush I thought 'hey, that's taking voters' rights away.' If it takes that many votes NOTHING would ever get passed. But then I thought 'wait a minute, that might be a GOOD thing'. It would ensure that no frivolous amendments get passed. I mean that's how the class size amendment got passed.

Second, Eminent Domain. I believe progress has a price. If a city wants to tear down a run-down part of town to renovate it and build businesses and condos etc. then it should do so to help the economy. The problem is, the homeowners forced out are not compensated enough to find new homes.

What do you think?

Thats easy Yes and Yes, on both bills.
First the constitution of the state should be protected from the “whim of the day” people can be very fickle and it is not uncommon to here a person say “I know that is going to pass so I am going to vote against it to send a message about how I feel”. Fashions come and go “save” bonds “save the whales” “Free Cuba” “Cuba who?” “Reduced rates for vacations to Cuba” I think a constitutional amendment should be carefully considered and be a clear desire of the people and not be thrown around wily nilly.
And second your home should be sacred, if we can not be confident that if we work hard and buy a house we have something we can keep and own, then what do we have. I will repeat something Glenda Hood from some few years back, “That property is now just to valuable and must be condemned” I don't know who lost there house that day but my heart goes out to them. And besides this bill will not end eminent domain it will still be possible but our government in full site of the people will over overwhelmingly have to approve the seizure of private property for the purpose of SELLING it to another party. This will not stop a roadway or school or courthouse from being built, it will keep Wal Mart from bribing the county into stealing your home and selling it to them at a discount!

So yes and yes thats my feelings on this one

VOTE NOooooo on all AMENDMENTS. Trust me. If you vote on the 61 percent vote needed then it would be harder to pass stupid bills.... you are voting your rights away if you vote YES. So vote NO.
No to eminent Domain... If some private person wants the property then they should pay for it, not ask his Government pals for help. NO ON ALLLLLLLLL

VOTE NO TO BOTH!!! Review the proposed amendments and look at the "additions" hidden in them.

Those are the only two that I voted yes on.

The 60% thing would keep stupid things like the pig cage and class size amendments at bay.

The Eminent Domain thing I voted yes on because, I am a strong supporter of peronal property rights. The only time I can see eminent domain being justified is:
1. for a road or bridge that is needed and can't be put elsewhere
2. a hospital, firestation, poliece station that can't be put elsewhere
3. a K - 12 school that can't be put elsewhere.

Beyond that government and developers need to keep their hands off of private property.

Vote NO to all of them. Ammendment 3 might keep the 'pig' thing from happening again, BUT, it will make it harder to GET RID OF the same stupid ammendments. Our constitution is already full of all kinds of garbage. There is also plenty of good legislation already on the books. Read the ammendments IN THIER ENTIRETY. Check for all the 'pork' slid into the wording. It may suprise you to find things like bridges and trains tacked onto an entirely different issue. This kind of dialog is why I vote only on election day, though I understand the needs of some to vote early. It takes real consideration on these issues, and you can't get a do-over if you find out you may have other feelings about issues you already voted on.

Truth guy you first line is right on “stupid bills “ would be in jeopardy! As to the second one your point would only work by voting “YES” on this bill, this particular bill reigns in the current system under witch eminent domain CAN be used to take my house and sell it to a privet company
So your points should read: Vote NO see we can protect stupid amendments.
And vote Yes to keep government from stealing our homes.

Just my opinion but if you do not know enough about a bill you should do some additional research and not ask others their opinion. I think too many people are swayed at the polls by other people instead of knowing the facts!

Toddt, fish247: did it ever occur to you that asking for feedback IS a form or research? Isn't it a sign of an educated, enlightened individual to be open to other points of view and to weigh the pros and cons?

I never said I didn't know enough. Just that I'm undecided. Read the post again, I state both sides of the argument which shows I know what issues area at stake.

And yes, I am doing other forms of research. Thanks for nothing.

I am certainly not calling you uneducated, I do not even know you. Based on your original comments you seem to know some of the content. My only point is that I assume you do not know anyone on this post. For me personally if I do not know the contents of a bill I would do research for FACTS, not opinions. I also would most likely ask some of my own friends or associates that I KNOW and that know me and that I tend to agree with on most other issues politically.

Just my 2 cents. I was not trying to offend and did not expect a defensive response from you at all.

Hello FoxnHenHouse & Everyone,

First I thank you FoxnHenHouse, for your feedback & assistance with one of my posts.

Next, I totally agree that any effort to avoid frivolous amendments is a good thing.

Next, as for Eminent Domain, this causes me much concern. I am in favor of beautification, progress, and improvement, but not when it strips someone, or people, of the rights.

There are times that no amount of compensation can suffice the memories, history, or sentimental value. I disagree in forcing any one against their will, for any reason.

Best Wishes to All,
Grover-LeBlanc
