While in England a few years ago I learned the origin of some words we use. I have no idea if this is true but it makes sense....Here is a sampling;
Threshold - This of course is the item placed on the floor opening of doorways leading to the outside. In today's world it is used mostly for a weather break and to keep what is outside from being inside.
The original use was different. In the early days in England people of wealth had slate floors. The floors would get damp with temperature changes. In order to zap the moisture up and keep from slipping the owners of the home would put thresh on the floor. As they walked around the house and outside the thresh would move around. Therefore a board was placed at the door going outside to hold the thresh......we still call them today a Threshold.
Okay....I admit it....for years I have wondered what is the deal that I like a warm feeling bed but love a cold or cool pillow to go with it...I thought it was just me but my daughter feels the same....so....the question.."anyone else have this odd desire..?"
Whats for dinner...?

I have two ladies who work for me that have families and my wife is a teacher. I often here these words from one of them during the course of a week..."I wanna have something different for dinner but I don't know what to fix.."
Why don't we share some of our favorite dishes. Two or three dishes each should give everyone some ideas about doing something different. So here is some of my families favorites;
1) Chicken and rice casserole
2) Fried Taco's
3) Smoked Pork loin
Now, whats for dinner?

Hey...its only a couple days away...what are some of your best Valentine's Day ideas for your love....?
One of the nicest things I ever got was a bathroom full of red hearts all over the walls that had written on each one something my wife liked about me. It was unique and I will remember it forever.
So offer up an idea we can steal......

I am sure many on this blog volunteer their time for a variety of causes. What do you give your time to?
I will get us going here...!
One of my volunteer jobs is the Chairman of the Board for a Federally Qualified Health Care Organization. The concept of the organization is to provide health care in rural Missouri where there is little or no health care available. The organization has 10 clinic locations and is based in Ellington Mo. There is about 70 employees of which about 15 are doctors including a couple dentist. We have regular meetings once a month in Van Buren, Mo and that is close to a 90 minute drive for me one way. We provide a very much needed service to rural Missouri residents. Patients are charged based on their ability to pay.
This is a Christmas Card I bought my brother in 1978.
The top photo is the front of the card and in 1978 it was made to look old. The words on the front are.......Take care of this Christmas Card...

On the inside of the card it says....It's been in the family for years.
Merry Christmas
Love Lance
To my surprise the next year in 1979 I got the card back..
Well that started something as you can see and the card was lost a few times and it has survived my brothers four wives and that many houses or more for him and three moves for me.....
Its my turn this year for 29 years........
Never done this before...so hope it works....FIGMAN Family Christmas Tree Hunt.........

Twas two weeks before Christmas,
and all through the blog,
bloggers were stirring typing like a mob.
Their computers were whizzing and
working so fine,
in hopes their blog would be posted
and posted on time.
When out of Fox 2 there came such a clatter,
Charles Jaco blogged on to see what was the matter.
And oh what to the wondering eyes we would see,
No not Santa, but Tim Ezell in his BVD’s……
More rapid than Chopper 2 could be in the air,
The Fox 2 team signed on to see who was there.
Now Monica, now Higgins now JC and Andy,
On Glen, on Teresa, on Murray and Mandy.
A story it was not, but another Ezell childish fit,
“Santa is real” he said, “I saw it on you paid for it..!
Oh how he was grinning as he was blogging on line,
Another story to tell like that Easter Monkey of mine.....
He was heard screaming as he left this site,
Merry Christmas to all and to all……. nite, nite….
Name dropping.....

Who is someone you have met that is famous or well known?
I met George W. Bush about 3 years ago. It was a great honor to shake his hand. I differ with several of his ideas but an honor none the less. I also had my 18 year old son with me at the time and it to was an honor for him.
I had lunch with Yogi Berra and his wife about 12 years ago. I got to spend about an hour and a half with them by myself. This was a great experience.
How about a "Tip of the hat" to St. Louis's most favored son Mickey Carroll of the Wizard of Oz movie. Mickey and his munchkin friends were honored to get their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame....Hooray for Hollywood.......now...can we do the same in U-City..Okay Mr. Edwards, Hollywood has made the move, Governor Blunt has made the request what are we waiting for....?
