If we get the tax refund promised by the Federal Government, did you know in Missouri we will be taxed on that refund? Yes, the tax we paid already will be refunded then we will be taxed again...! Say WHAT...!

I found out Representative Holsman of Kansas City has introduced a bll to make this exempt for Missouri Income Tax. The problem is, Rep. Holsman is in the Minority Party and it may be impossible for the bill to even be heard much less debated and voted on.

If you think this is wrong email, call or write your state representative. You can find your state representative on the following state web site;

http://www.house.mo.gov/content.aspx?info=/bills0

If you act you can find out "we the people" still works, otherwise they, the elected will act in our best interest..!

They tax everything you own over and over and over every year why should this be any different.

If "we the people" let it, then it won't be different...

I also read that the stimulus refund was not to be taxed by Missouri. Can't remember where I read that at though.

That's why we've always enjoyed "paying in" before April 15th. Not only have we kept our money and earned interest on our money - now we just write a check.

We have friends that always get a few thousand back and I tell them that the Government has now used their money for free probably earned interest on it somewhere and you have you claim your refund as income.

The best tax refund is a break even refund - hurts very little.

The following is a message from the Attoreny General Jay Nixon...

Exempt Federal Rebate Checks from State Tax!

Times are tough for many Missouri families. Our unemployment rate continues to be among the nation's highest, the housing crisis has hit folks hard and bills are piling up on kitchen tables across the state.

As a result, millions of Missourians will receive a rebate check from the federal government this spring to help make ends meet. Unfortunately, as the law stands right now, Missourians will have to pay state income taxes on these rebate checks.

That's why I was the first public official in our state to call for a law exempting Missourians from paying income taxes on their federal rebate checks. And I'm proud that House Democrats, led by Rep. Jason Holsman, have introduced a bill that would do just that.

ladybonesteak - Jay Nixon is on board with this you would serve yourself better to email your state representative. You can find that on the above state web site. If you need my help to find out who yours is, I will be glad to help. FIGMAN

Republicans run deficets because they do not raise your taxes like the Democrats. Republicans want to make the tax cuts permanent but Democrats do not. Republicans do not want to pay for non-workers healtcare costs but Democrats do. So be an idiot because you don't like the war and vote for a Democrat.
Then you can complain on a blog like this next year.

I had heard that the stimulis was going to be taxed. Taxes are a part of life, so I don't really get so upset about it. WE could be in a lot worse shape, ie a country that does not even have taxes. We should be thankful.

I also recieved some info stating that the stimulis check was going to have to paid back after we recieve out 2008 tax refund! If the refund that we recieve is larger than the stimulis check we will have to pay it back, if not then you dont have to pay it back. This info came from the website of:
www.digits.hrblock.com/taxrebate
Take a look and let me know what you think of this. I believe its under question #2.

Actually, federal income tax refunds ARE taxed by Missouri. They always have been, and to be somewhat fair, they DO represent income you received. That was money you did NOT pay in tax, so it was income and you're now getting it back (you did NOT pay tax on it LAST year because federal tax was DEDUCTED from your federal income on LAST year's Missouri return).

But, of course, the tax-and-spend-on-welfare-for-the-wealthy Republicans don't want to exempt this new incentive from taxes! My gosh, if they did that, maybe some RICH FOLKS may have to pay their fair share of taxes, and Republicans don't get elected doing THAT for heaven's sake!

Yes, this is interesting, isn't it? The Republicans against this tax break, and the Democrats for it. Well, maybe this shows exactly the difference between Republicans and Democrats. While neither are saints, the Democrats want this tax break because they know IT WILL spur the economy, which needs spurring because of seven years of Republican damage. This money is intended to be spent, not taxed, so it helps business. Republicans don't care about that! No, sir, they don't even care about you small businessmen (of course, some of you THINK so for some unknown reason callled "brainwashing"), Republicans only give tax breaks that help those already with millions and billions, those who already have everything, get even more money. That is NOT good for business. Republican economic policies are only good for one thing: Keeping the wealthy elite wealthier and in power. Democrats, on the other hand, want to be rich, too - but they

...but they want to do it legit and help business grow and prosper, the way it oughta be! LOL
