Seeing the local campaign signs spring up reminds me of a set of laws that I'd like to see passed:

1) No campaign signs posted more than 45 days prior to an election.  The current crop of local signs would meet that requirement with no problem, but there are a few Presidential ones starting to appear, and the Primary here isn't even until next Spring!!

2)All campaign signs must be removed by the Saturday following an election.  That gives everybody four days to do a task that entails all of thirty seconds.  There are still places by the highway where you can find Bush/Cheney and Kerry/Edwards signs from 2004....What an eyesore.   Neighborhoods look so much cleaner without all the cluttter.

3) You can advertise on TV and radio all you want, but any political ads more than 45 days prior to an election cost double the normal advertising rate.  Any ads more than 60 days prior cost triple.  All stations would be required to show proof of these rates through receipts, etc.  Free speech is free speech, but enough is enough when it comes to these ads!!  The final week before an election is almost exclusively political commercials; watch for yourself if you haven't noticed this before.

The political season is something I love and hate.  It's fun to watch campaigns unfold and get excited about voting, but the campaign overload has got to be one of the major factors that turns so many citizens away from the whole process.

Agree?  Disagree?

I disagree with your Rule #3, having adds that require adds to increase in price undermines those candidates that are not funded by big corporate money.

I believe that campaigns should be government subsidized to remove the negative impact of dirty money and the buying of candidates, not sure how this will need to be done

And as for rule #2, if someone wants to put their own political signs in their own front yards, before or after an election then they should be allowed to exercise that right.

It is an eyesore, but so what? Our Constitution was not meant to protect "Property Values" it was meant to protect our American Values of freedom.

For instance, say I am a third party candidate:

Jason Doright and I am of the Green Party candidate, and not of the Democratic or Republican party, and I do not have the support of either the Unions or the Corporations because I expouse environmentalism which often conflicts with the interests of both Unions and Corporations, then I will have less money then them from these two groups.

Having less money does not mean you have less character as a person or have bad ideas, it means you have LESS MONEY and cannot compete.

Often in our campaigning system, the most for sale candidate gets the most money and therefore puts out the most political advertising/propoganda.

So, someone who is for education reform has potential constituents (nearly everyone wants education reform) but has the least amount of money for supporting that platform compared to a person who stands for Deregulation of industry who has several large corporations who can pump them with alot of money.

I agree but I have to agree with Gorbash on the last one. How about just no adds before 60 days prior. That way it would be fair.

erock/gorbash you both make VERY good points on either side. I find it very sad that the election process has been reduced to being driven by money! Who has the most, where it comes from & who is holding the purse strings. erock, i don't agree with #3, yes i agree that there should be some sort of limits, but the additional money would more than likely take out some of the "poorer" candidates, like gorbash said. Imagine that gorbash, I actually AGREE with you! LOL

yeah...why should we encourage interest in the election process in a democracy...good idea...and never mention an issue thats on the ballot till you get into the voting booth....that way we wont just be electing morons that say...a war with iraq...good idea

dprin: You have to be selected by the "official" Fox 8 moderators to be displayed on the front page.

Gorbash & others: I would LOVE to have a "no commercials over 60 days prior" rule, but I think that someone would consider that a violation of free speech or a candidates' rights.....In hindsight, it does favor the richer candidates, although I was trying for the "deterrent" fees. You win; scratch #3 or amend it to:
No advertising more than 60 days prior to an election.....INCLUDING those "527" groups like Moveon.org and the "Swiftboat Veterans for Truth."

Ricky: Do you feel that you NEED to see these ads 6 months before you vote? Anyone who will actually pay attention that far in advance is probably already watching CNN or at least the Sunday political shows to learn where everyone stands....along with all the dirt.

Dprin- I'm an english major and write ALOT and the best way to get your posts on the front page is to think long and hard about an issue that is very interesting to others that will attract comments that is also well written (picutes sometimes help but aren't necessary)

Also it is easier to get front paged on slow days where very few people are posting, and in sections where people post less.

Try Entertainment to start off, and Politics, or Weather, News is always very busy, especially when a high profile murder has just been committed or something similar.

My post about the Indian's win was chosen to be the feature post on Sports. I had a picture to go along with "Tribe Time Now"

I gotta agree with Gorbash on #3. But I do Have my own addition.

All ads supporting or denouncing a proposition shall include proper facts and inform viewers as to the content of the proposition to a acceptable level, and all copies of the full proposition shall be made available to the public by any group behind set ads.

I know I need to word that better but I think I made my point.

I gotta agree that the week or so before an election is loaded with to many ads. I went to Virgina last November about a week or so before their elections and by the time I left left I knew the names of most of the people running. I was their for a convention so I heard mostly radio ads to and from their and then maybe 1 1/2 of TV I watched in the hotel between the Friday night we arrived and the Sunday morning we left. That's just how overbearing they were.

Married father of three. I love sports, nature, most types of music, and I'm an aviation enthusiast. I'm a moderate-thinking no-nonsense kind of guy who HATES excuses. I can't stand most of the Hollyweird pop cultural garbage being spoon-fed to this country. I'm frustrated by people who can name every American Idol finalist but have no clue who the Vice President of the U.S. is, and I'm bothered by the "Get out and Vote!" campaigns that want to send these space cadets to the ballot box! Did I mention that I like dark humor and sharp sarcasm?
