Just arrived in Beijing tonight and it raining like crazy.  That should be good though to help clear the air.  Don't have much of a feel here yet only that this city is BIG.  Navigating myself around has been a challenge so far.  There are so many people eager to help that I think they are confusing themselves.  It's funny and frustrating all at the same time.

2 Chinese kids working at my hotel have been teaching me some Chinese to use aroud town tomorrow.  We'll see...

I've just come in from Tokyo and Hong Kong and watching the Olympics abroud is very interesting.  Of course in Tokyo, all coverage was on the Japanese. I watched some of the China/Spain basketball game in Macau two days ago as Chinese sports coverage is now what I'm surrounded by.

But I thougt you all might be interested to know that Michael Phelps is making the papers in Japan and China every day and earlier this week Manny Ramirez was on the front page of the Japanese paper in his Dodger uniform

Oh yeah, and since I'm a traffic producer...trains during rush hour in Tokyo are bananas.  And forget about it in Hong Kong - so many cars and people!!

is it true that their toilets are super advance, and are able to do water shows, and change color? does it have a seat warmer? do they flush the opposite way?

Erica,

A couple of us are keeping Rick Dickert on his feet with the blogs, while you are having fun traveling. Did you happen to hit the clubs in Tokyo? I gave a heads up to my college buddy Hirokazu Takanashi aka "D.J. Nashi" in case you hit the clubs. By the way, I'm getting a good laugh reading Samo's question, and holding off being a smart aleck, in case my remark would be taken the wrong way by other readers. Touche Samo!

Hey Samo, you're right! The Toto Toilets in Tokyo are super deck out. Seat warmers, music, sprays, even a flushing sound...not a flush - just the sounds of flushing. They were fantastic.
However, now I'm in Beijing and the traditional toilets here are basically holes in the ground. Many improvements have been made city wide to all facilities but some area are still a little behind, and I don't mind telling you that I today I had to squat. T.M.I. I know, but those are the facts!

really, wow man, i dont know, why, but going to tokyo sounds a lil more sweeter then before. i just always wanted to see one of those toilets. as for beining, they aren't behind, they are thinking of the future. yup. believe it or not. they purposly put the toilets in the ground for 2 reasons. 1 is that they dont want people spending unnesseary time in the restroom while a line starts forming. yup, your rushed to finish quickly before your legs give out. 2 is because in that squating position your you know what comes out much more easily then the american way. yup. i did my research. only set back is if you slip, you land on your poo, and it's tough for obese and handicap people.

p.s, it's never too much info for me.

Hi guys.
Samo, a little toilet talk. You're right about the grounded toilets. I guess all I meant was that most places have also installed seated toilets in preparation for the Olymipics games. But I'm telling you...as a girl, you want to be seated. That's all I'm sayin on thast one.
Ok, prices...I got a full body massage in Hong Kong for $30 US. The Dollar gets you far in China that's for sure. The only place I got ripped off was...McDonalds! Big Mac, Fries and a Coke cost me $8. But, that was in the Olympic Village and the only thing going. Usually I make an effort to eat locally when I'm abroad. So far no negative results as an effect.
Two days ago we had a feast with a local Chinese family - Mongolian hot pot. It's basically boiling, century egg broth and you dip meats and veggies in it to cook. I tried bone marrow for the first time and it's kind of slimmy and tasteless. I thought it was intestine at first because that's what it looked like. My mom thinks I'm crazy.

Anyway I was informed that the Chinese gov't. Is monitoring all our email output so I'll end here. Hello, Chinese Government.

well that's cool, you have the first blog that is a globel sucess. yeah! hell even the chineses government want to read up on what you have to say. wow!

i agree with you, i need a place to sit. i would hate to squat. 30 bucks for a massage, sweet. now is that a full body or just back and arms?

my friend sent me a email that shows what they are serving to eat at the olymipics games. it showed pictures of fish, and lot's of different types of bugs on a stick. like scorpions, and beetles. also sea horses on a stick. is that really true? just wondering and if it is, have you eaten it yet? personally i dont care what it is, if it's good, then it's good.
