I took the Metro Red Line for the second time this weekend. It was great!

The first time I rode was a year ago and it was empty. But it seems that the number of riders is on the up.  Having lived in two other cities with some of the best underground railways on earth (DC & London), I have to say LA can compete.  Of course, we can use more lines.
I would love to ride the train more often but I don't have direct access from my home.  This past weekend I was headed to Hollywood for the Thai Festival and what was sure to be a horrible parking situation...not at the Red Line station.  It was as fast and easy as any city who's railway has been running for decades.  Even the honor system riding is a trip.  (I hear the fine for being caught without a ticket is around $300.  Yikes!)

If you haven't tried it, get out there and explore!  If you take the train regularly, let me hear from you too!

At the festival I was given my introduction to Muay Thai...Thai Boxing.  It's the national sport of Thailand and there were a number of competitions.  Check out these junior boxers.  These kids were about 7 or 8.  I couldn't believe how much butt they kicked in that heat last week.

There are some other photos from the festival in my album.  It was great fun and I look forward to going again next year.

Random Note:
-Flying American Airlines tomorrow.  Fingers crossed they won't cancel my flight or go out of business.  Flying is a betting woman's gig these days.

You need to listen to my L.A. Grudge Poems Volume 1. I believe that mpschunks has them. The poem you need to listen to is "Quaking Subway"...enjoy the thought next time you ride...

Erica,

here's something I would like to see in North Orange County: a line going into Santa Ana by the way of an old right of way abandoned by Southern Pacific Railroad in the 70s, and later Union Pacific in 2004. The right of way goes diagonal and used to go through Long Beach, Bellflower, Lakewood, Artesia, Cerritos, La Palma, Cypress, south Buena Park, west Anaheim, Stanton, Garden Grove, and finally Santa Ana. There are other cities which I didn't list, for it would be a long list, but I made this list to jar some memories of those who lived in the areas where the Southern Pacific train would travel through. Some of the land has been used for other purposes since, so it would be a challenge to bring back the tracks, if they were to do so. It was a great corridor which used to service many from the early 1900s to around 2003. Back in 1977, Southern Pacific removed the line going from Santa Ana to Stanton; that section went into downtown Santa Ana from Beach Blvd in Stanton, where it met another line of the Southern Pacific railroads. Most of that land from Santa Ana to Stanton is still vacant, and fenced off from the public, though some small plots are now being used for some small businesses. Those strips of land could support a Metro line, with stations being built along the way...perhaps some bridges can be built over some of the streets to keep traffic flowing. Now this could be a great way to travel in parts of North and North-Central Orange County, along with parts of Los Angeles County. By the way, how far do you have to travel to work (without giving

There is a reason why I authored the poem "Quaking Subway" and it is all based on fact. If you ride that thing, then you are much braver than I thought.

muay thai kick boxing is one of the best forms of fighing. it's practice by all serious mixed marital art fighters. it's very straight to the point style, using all areas of the body as a weapon. it's not like boxing where you restrict yourself to just your fists. but if you want to learn more about it, go talk to liz habib. she trained a bit with the IFL female fighters. she might show ya a trick or two before knocking your out. lol.
hmm erica vs. habib. people place your bets.

Well I am sort of an ex fan of Liz, cause she snubbed my blogs, but Erica seems nice and besides, I actually identify more with production folks then some of the people before the camera. Production is where the real power is, they have the "Force" behind them and the force is all powerful.

Goto youtube and listen to the posts for "Skyway Arizona" that a guy or girl named mpschunks is posting. It is basically a sort of "Steampunk" genre. Western Sci-fi and too bad for a story.

Hey uh, where is Erica? I mean it's her blog and bing, she's gone like a Dorothy Loose---eee! "Blog and Run" aye?

mr. e, i don't have far to travel to work thankfully. i'd love to be able to ride a bike in but with my overnight hours i don't think it's entirely safe.

National train day is coming May 10th you can find out all about is from Amtrak on there web site.
www.Amtrak.com
May 10th is also the annivesary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad at Promintory Utah whic was May 10th 1869 joining the east to the west.

Next on the agenda.
We need to get more trains going here is Los Angeles. Like placing Metrolink on the unused MTA (old Santa Fe) Harbor sub running from downtown to San Pedro which will pass LAX and the South Bay cities. Adding this train route to a already in place Metrolink run would be a natural extension and help releave traffic congestion from the LAX west side all the way to San Pedro.
This line could also run back out through Long beach, back to Los Angeles and connect with all other trains at LA Union Station for trips south, east and north with the MTA & Amtrak as a real burst of energy to rail transportation. At a far less cost to build per mile compared to the MTA crenshaw line due to the fact the line is all ready in place and no right of way will need to be purchased. If you really want to get people onto mass transit make the trains more accessable and do it for less by using existing right of ways. The MTA board sure likes to waste money on light rail projects like the Crenshaw line, was it Carl Sagen who said Billions and Billion of stars out in the universe, as tax payers we don't have that kinda money. The MTA needs to learn to build for less and do it with less red tape.

The last thing I have to chew on, why is it, that the LA Mayor has 5 votes on the MTA board, where all oth
