I wasn’t sure what I was going to write this week until I heard Steve Edwards read a story on a $35/seat movie theater opening in Chicago this year.
ARE YOU KIDDING?!

For those who missed it, the Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas (that name is too long and stinks anyway) is opening a theater and charging $35 a ticket. You get a recliner seat and a server to bring you food and drinks which, by the way, you pay additional for.

That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for! Overhearing someone order food while I’m trying to enjoy a movie is a dream come true. The folks at VRGCC (ridiculous) should offer free wireless and Mani Pedis because you know I can’t go 3 hours without those conveniences.

To the movie companies who will release their product in these theaters…shame on you.

I love movies but a certain amount of etiquette is required for sure. Here are just a few shout outs to some fellow audience members I had the pleasure of sitting with this past year.

To the woman who sat 5 people to my right at “There Will Be Blood”:
Please chew with your mouth closed. Seriously.

To the family of seven who brought their 2 year old to see “American Gangster”:

  1. How am I supposed to enjoy the drugs and violence I expect in a gangster movie knowing your toddler is walking around back there?
  2. You might be bad parents. That’s just opinion, but I’d get that checked out.
  3. When I left you, I moved to the next theater to see “No Country for Old Men” and loved it.

To the Senior crowd who enjoys the new Landmark at the Westside Pavilion:
Just because there is assigned seating doesn’t mean you should show up 5 minutes late. I really don’t need to hear “Mortie, you take the aisle in case you have to go” in the middle of the awesome opening credits to “Juno”.

Random notes:
*Some people have had trouble leaving comments and it might be your internet browser. I had to download Mozilla Firefox and that solved my problem. It’s free, try it.

*Mr. E & Samo, I don’t get the donut jokes but you guys are enjoying yourselves and that’s all that matters. :)

*I’m working night shift for a little bit and it’s different than the mornings around Fox 11, but cool. I’ll write about it next week.

I hardly go to the movies anymore because of how obnoxious people are. Can you not put your cell phone away from 2 hours? It won't kill you, I promise. Or how about the idiots that think they can kick your chair? I'd rather save the $50 it costs to go to the movies and rent it for $3 when it comes out on video. And with how the economy is, I can't even afford it anyways!

You know what really gets my literary goad Erica, is that they didn't ask 100 dollars a seat. look, these people are all called "Tinselturds" because that is what they are and nothing less then that. They put out crap on the screen 99.9% of the time and then preach anti-American slogans and expect us all to finance their work which honestly is crap. Hell, I have authored better stories then most of what is on the screen, but until Tinselturdtown gets reformed, it will continue to be the dis-entertainment sewer and slum it has become filled with Tinselturds and Hollysluts...cheers!

i think you got the doughnut thing confused with sebar. he loves them. i was just cracking jokes about rick q fighting rick d. in a cage fight. as for movies. wow, 35 bucks for a comfortable seat. way too much. if i was gonna pay that much for a movie, i expect the screen to be twice the size they normally are, and i expect a box like seat so i have privacy. plus a buzzer to order food. due to the box thing, it wont disturb other while they watch the film. anyways. i mostly never have a problem while watching a film. only time i did, was when i sat by a bunch of lil kids. they were just talking and constantly moving around, and just really bugging me. i was glad that the movie sucked so i didnt care much, but hell if they do that during any johnny depp film!

thanks for noticing me erica. later

Erica,

I think people need to learn about manners again; they used to teach manners in school until the schools had to become politically correct years ago. You can ask Rick Dickert about the donut thing when you get back on the early shift...I'm sure he'll fill you in on some of the wacky details. One bright side about the night shift: you get to work with Mark Thompson, Carlos, Rick Garcia, and Christine Devine! They seem so cool on air! Got a good gag for April Fools Day? I'm helping out in hatching an on air radio gag at KBRT around 3PM when we do a live show...if you're not near a radio, you can get it on line at KBRT740.com. Our show host is in for a surprise...he doesn't read these blogs, so the secret is safe! If the engineer pulls the gag off, you will hear it at the top of the hour; the station is on a delay, so you need to wait at least 40 seconds before hearing it. I'm writing this for anyone who decides to tune in and listen either on the radio or on the web.

Cheers Erica!

Nichole, Howard & JLam...Welcome!

Thanks to everyone for clearing up the donut situation. Whew!

Don't think I'm into playing any April Fool's jokes around here but should I get inspired I'll be sure to share. Admittedly, I'm a pretty lame jokester. I find myself the only one laughing most of the time. ;)

Erica,

All you need is a good visual prank with the Chyron and the Chroma Key. I saw the Bobby D. Paintball thing...was that you who did the graphics the other morning? Maybe Mark will dress up in green and do his floating gag when being keyed over some graphics...or maybe Maria will be game for it!

BTW Mr. E, the tinselturds can all go drop dead and take a flying hike counterclockwise before I give them one penny from my pocket for their crap...cheers!

Oh yes, on another matter, if you know who was in charge of the Aloha Airlines story graphics on the Chyron, John Wayne Airport is not in Santa Ana! It is Irvine/Costa Mesa. I work behind it on the Costa Mesa side; Santa Ana's southern border is at the North side of Sunflower Street, which is at least 1/2 a mile away from the airport's west end. Whoever did the Monday morning graphics should be advised of this. I take it you're on night duty for a bit, so this is a heads up to you, if that Aloha Airlines story continues tonight. You'd be safe to change it to Irvine...that's more accurate.

Cheers!

You know, speaking about airports. It is a known fact the runway at least the main one can have a 747 on it. I have heard chatter recently that Van Nuys which is a private airport may go full commercial. I am trying to find out more on this since 727's (privately owned) and tons of gulfstreams already use the airport. But it can accomodate larger craft and may easily alleviate the LAX/Burbank traffic so it could prove very interesting indeed Mystere...
