The overwhelming response to my first blog was quite a surprise…to everyone

My co-workers want to know how a blog with such little content solicited so many comments.  I’m mystified as to why anyone would take the time to read what I have to say. This disposition has afforded me the label of “reluctant blogger”.

So, here’s the deal…I’ll keep blogging, if you keep reading. Great.  Shake on it.

Curious what our pre-show routine is like? Rick Dickert and I have 2 types of mornings in the weather department.

Type 1.  We’re chatty.
If you walk by you may hear, “I slept like crap”, “listen to what I heard”, or “I may have eaten bad Chinese”…and that’s just from me!  Rick, ever polite and tolerable of my complete inane-ness (yes, that’s now a word), is a fun contributor.  We have pretty similar taste when it comes to music and movies so we catch up on that stuff too.  In general, we just crack each other up.

After we build some graphics, Rick is off to the chopper and I slip into Traffic mode by checking our CHP logs, Real Time maps, etc. to see what’s going on out there.

Type 2. We’re silent.
Complete silence. These mornings are great too.  It’s nice to share a comfortable quiet and not feel obligated to talk.  We get in EARLY and some mornings feel earlier than others.

We take care of biz, manage a few mumbles to ourselves under our breath, and nothing until Rick takes off.  Then it’s, “talk to you on the radio” and “drive safe”.

I'm sure you'll find that this photo captures the excitement of both scenarios.

 Random notes:

I just filled up at $3.80/gallon for regular 87 octane.  I’m slightly aggro because of it.

Wasn’t this weekend gorgeous once the storm passed?  Check out my photo.  Dickert calls them Cumulus clouds.  I call them “Simpsons” clouds because it reminds me of the show’s opening.  There’s no AMS seal next to my name!

I plan to post every Thursday so let's see what you can come up with this week!

Yours,

Erica

Erica,

just out of curiosity, what area is charging $3.80 for a gallon of regular gas? That is HIGHWAY ROBBERY! In the Cypress area, you can get gas at around $3.45 average...still what I call HIGHWAY ROBBERY, but not as bad. I read Rick Dickert's last blog, and he responded back to me...nasty fuel prices!

By the way, does Rick ever mention about the things people write on the blogs while you two are preparing the weather maps and other things? I can only imagine a few good laughs every once in a while. By the way, someone has to bring you some Mama's doughnuts, so that blogger Sebar will get some great laughs. All you need to do is snap a picture of Rick Dickert chomping down on one of them, show it on a blog, and voila! Sebar will be writing some of the funniest comments which you and Rick could laugh about, not to mention the Whacked out comments I will be writing. So how about it? Maybe some Thursday in the future...mmm doughnuts mmm!! Mama! Mama! (Hee Hee!)

Hey Erica,
Great blog. Keep it up. Speaking of gas prices, I just filled up my tank... $52 !!! 3 or 4 years ago it took about $25. INSANE I tell you. By the way if you are a Costco member the prices are a little better. I payed $3.40 a couple of days ago.

Mr. E, unfortunately close to $4/gallon is becoming the norm. We like to check on different locations from Skyfox in the mornings and it was even the topic of Dickert's recent Traffic blog. It is robbery I felt a little knocked around.

Also, I can't bring in donuts! I try to keep the morning calorie intake low. What are you trying to do to me?

Dennis, good tip. I should check out Costco more often. :)

Will you try and play some of the more rare "Northern Soul" in the mornings for the weather reports. I see Jillian has gotten more conservative on GDLA which is nice to watch.

Hello and good morning to you and everyone out there. I just have to comment on how HOT your are Erica!

I hope you do not mind me saying so in front of the whole world!

Love to you and yours!

Oh and good blog; weather one of my favorite things next to giving and receiving a great massage(s); I am just lately -- the last few years -- put a global aspect to my own personal weather guess games...

Like I wonder if your neck/shoulders are your favorite tension location or your feet. But then I would have to be single to really find out... LOL :>)

bye for now

how cute, you guys look like your at school working on some project. lol. plus that cloud pic totally reminds me of the simpsons. great plug to a fox show. lol. j/k. sounds like rick has the greatest job ever. free food, gets to chatter with cute girls all day, fly in a chopper, and skate board on the job. what more can a guy ask for???? oh wait he get's paid well to do all of this and be on tv, and have tons of fans, and let's face it if he wasn't married would be having so many chicks. lucky. anyways great blog, and i totally agree with your deal. you keep writing, we will keep reading and reponding. so now the big question. rick d vs. rick q. ? who would win in a cage fight? anyone can answer this and put in your opinions.

Erica,

About the doughnuts: see Sebar's archived blog "Rick Dickert and Donuts"; you'll see that the donuts are a hint for Ricky! (Hee Hee!) Perhaps he'll grab some for the flight crew...and you can help joke with him about it, just to lighten up the mood. (Rick can chomp on the donuts...then the others on the 5 A.M. team...just hide them from Dorothy, Jill and Steve...the sugar rush will make them bounce! Hee Hee!) Oh yes, I remember Mark Thompson has this cake thing...any left over Mamas will bring him some joy at night. Key thing...Rick must be the one to bring in the Mama's donuts per Sebar! (Don't Worry, you're off the hook - hee hee!)

Samo...I say it's a draw...Rick Quintero has a "loaded weapon", but Rick Dickert can fly! (The "loaded weapon" = donuts...Har Har!)

Erica,

I hope you get a laugh out of my just posted last comment...gotta tease Rick, and if Sebar responds, I hope he has something funny to say too.

Cheers!

too funny mystere. lol. didnt think about that. rick d can fly, while rick q can shoot him or pepper spray him. well i guess the chopper wind would make the pepper spray back fire, but rick q can shoot rick d down. at the end i think rick q can hand cuff then beat rick d with his baton to submission.

The "baton" can be a big fresh Mama's Donut that Sebar will approve of for the submission tool...plenty of glaze on it! Put the donut under Rick Dickert's nose...let him smell the aroma! Aaaaaaaaaah! Sebar, I hope you're reading this and laughing.

Erica, I hope you're finding this amusing. I'll bet Rick Dickert is a great sport about this too...I'm sure you two can share a laugh over this one.

Samo, are you ready for some more funny replies from the blogosphere?
