Ha...I am soo happy...I went to San Jose everybody and it was summer weather. Of course since we all last spoke, the sun in L.A. has made its own grand entrance here in Southern California.  But can I tell you how much I enjoyed getting a little vitamin D up there?!!  Ok, so why was I there?  Well, I am a member of the NAHJ, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and every year we converge in a major U.S. city.  It is such a great reunion!!  In our hectic line of work, we all have such different schedules it's very hard to see and even call friends/colleagues.  But at NAHJ, we are all able to come together and more importantly give back and mentor  young, aspiring journalists.  In that spirit, I wanted to spread the news with you all about this great organization because you may be able to refer someone into the organization.  And please, you do not have to be of hispanic origin, the organization is open to all and dedicated to offering opportunities for all, especially for the real, genuine and fair journalists left in the biz including those coming up.

They can be reached online at www.nahj.org

As soon as I get pics, I will post them.  Question of the week... are journalists what they used to be?  Do you watch more of the news on tv, read the paper, or do it all online??

Take care everybody!

i watch tv for my local news, and gossip. i read up about other news stories on the internet that you wont cover. like did you know that a wrestling legend died 2 days ago. sherri martel, she was in the wwe hall of fame, plus a former female champion, and one of the few women so tough that she actually took on some of the male wrestlers. well she died in her mothers home, she was only 49 years old. cops are ruling out natural causes. i'm guessing it might of been pain killer medication.

that's a important story for me, cuz i grew up watching her, but i had to do the research on the web to find that out.

i think the news paper is out of date. the news on it is mostly a day late, their are no real good way to make a update on it, and it's wasteful. they are chopping down trees everyday for a item that can only be used once.

i still think that the news on tv is the best source for news. you can't trust everything on the web. plus you guys make it more or less easier for us to understand what's going on.

great to see you back liz. i missed reading your blogs. great tan too.

Hi Elizabeth, I have my favorite reporters on T.V. but I also read my local section of the newspaper everyday. I am entertained by the reporters on television as I get information about an event or incident. You are my favorite reporter and by the way I have been watching for your reports daily again. When I watch reporters presenting it is quick and to the point.

Oh C'mon Elizabeth, you are listed as Hot Stuff on the list of one worders. We all knew you heated San Jose up for the short time you were there...lol

What makes a journalist an Hispanic journalist? Does she need to speak spanish? Does she need to be progeny of spanish speakers? Does she qualify if she has Hispanic DNA yet cannot read, write, speak and understand spanish? Lady Liz, you are a top drawer journalist-- what benefit do you receive by affiliating with a subset of journalists? i feel a sense of "give her a job because she is a minority" which sucks because i want to view the best. i want nischelle to have a job because she is a great journalist who is charismatic and is attractive--not because she is a Missourian. How would you feel about changing your last name to something less hispanic sounding -- (e.g. Elizabeth Windsor, or Schmidlapp, or Lillienthal) just to experiment whether you are perceived more favorably by viewers?

Pretty in pink!!! I saw you yesterday morning Elizabeth here in Anaheim. I was going from the post office back to my home here, and noticed you out in front of the police station, curb side. I probably would've stopped and said a hello, but I saw Sgt. Martinez coming outside, so I figured you guys were going for a live shot. But anyhow... it was a nice surprise seeing you. Looks like you had a good laugh about something as I was at the stoplight there.

Ya know, I get so tired of hearing people talk about summer coming, like we actually ever have winter. Tell me when the last time you were able to wear a sweater on Christmas Day? Its been so long I cant remember.
We have had no rain, we barely got any snow in the mountains this past winter, weve already had temperatures in the hundreds and summer just arrived today. So tell me, what is so glorius about baking everyday everywhere you go, about brownouts, about water shortage higher cost of trying to stay cool?
Give me a beautiful thundershower any day.

Que Onda loca!

Pues mi da gusto that you finally found some Summer weather. Glad you had fun in San Jose at the Journalists junta, I bet it was exciting and I will be letting a homegirl of mine know about this website, she'll be excited, she enjoys writing and has been wanting to get a job at our local newspaper, pero I feel she belongs on T.V.

I prefer to watch the journalists on the News (TV) instead of the paper. On T.V. I get to watch all that live coverage as well as who is doing the reporting.....I like to know what is going on before it hits the news stands.

Bueno pues loca, enjoy the rest of your week!

Con Respeto,
Desert Chicano

Hi Liz....see you on Good Day LA. You are a good news reporter, and you certainly are beautiful. I enjoy your reports and specials, however I have one critical thought, if I may. When you speak your English is perfect and you have a lovely voice. When you report on or interview anyone with an Hispanic sounding name you pronounce their name with a very heavy Hispanic accent, rolling your Rs, and we cannot always understand the name clearly. Could you please slow down a bit on the names so their name is clear to all of us who are not as fluent with Hispanic names? Thanks Liz...Love Ya!

I am glad to see there is more diversity amongst journalists these days. I see more Latinos out there bringing us the latest news. You, Elizabeth, of course are at the top of the list for beauty, personality, and presentation. I would really enjoy having the opportunity to meet you in person sometime. I think that you would find me interesting in my ways of thinking in regards to our Latino community. I have knowledge and experience to support my outlook on our Latino community. Hope to here from you soon, take care.

It seems that journalists, back about 30+ years ago seemed to do more investigative reporting. They were watchdogs for the consumers, and they seemed to relish the idea of reporting what government, companies, and powerful people were doing that was wrong. You don't get that as much anymore, you mostly find journalists who aren't all that objective (especially in their political views) who simply report what is going on, but don't dig deep to try and cure the ills of society.

Those are my thoughts.

That weird rant aside...

So Elizabeth, were you at the seminar with Governor Schwarzenegger where he talked about learning English? I thought it was the most interesting and thoughtful thing he's ever said while in office. Did you attend that meeting?

Samo...

the love is coming right back at you! Nice tan huh? Well thank you my dear. Your latest photos are great!

Eddiefella,
Thanks for the carino! Thank you for your support, as you might imagine, it isn't always easy out here! Okay!

Sebar,

How's one of LA's finest poets? Can you write us a poem?

TRdonovan,

Do you know Sgt. Martinez? You should have stopped by!! Yes, every now and then I make it a point to have a good laugh otherwise I run the risk of taking life too serious and forget to smell the roses and appreciate the simple things in life.

Thonryone...
Yes, we do need thundershowers...just left a press conference about the fire danger this season. Wow, it doesn't look good!

Desertchicano...

What is this "loca" talk? Prefiero otro sobrenombre! Ese no me parece muy apropiado a raiz de todas las personas que sufren de problemas mentales. But know this, I appreciate the carino. Trust me I do, as I said earlier the support is priceless. So, let's brainstorm on a name...guapa? hahaha, ok it's your call...waiting.

Browser,

Loyal fan huh? Soooo sweet! Your pic is great! What do you do in the inland empire?

Waveslider...
Are you a surfer? Like the name...waveslider! No ring...wow you are looking....aha!
