Oil Robber Barons -- Douglas ChickAt the gas pumps in this morning, I stare at the swiftly spinning dials, and the cycle of anger begins. Oil Robber Barons strike at the pumps again. I check out at the grocery store, Oil Robber Barons impact the food I eat. I come home and watch the nightly news, Oil Robber Barons, Oil Robber Barons, something about Hilary and Obama, Oil Robber Barons.

It is true that we are a capitalistic society, and our country enjoys the luxury of a free market, but when our economy is driven by Oil Robber Barons, where is the line between a free market society and out of control greed?

The countries that regulate thier oil sales, have a stronger dollar then the U.S. (They are financially stronger than the United States.) Why, because they know their economy is based off the cost of fuel. Do we need the same regulations to protect our country, or do we allow Oil Robber Barons to drive down America until we are a weak, over inflated, hollow country, dependant on the generosity of other nations?

Have you ever seen the movie "who killed the electric car?" Great movie, shows how the oil companies, car companies and the government, yes the government, banded together so that we will still have to use oil to get around.

Did you know the Japanese have already created a hydrogen car? If so, why aren't they here?

“The countries that regulate thier oil sales, have a stronger dollar then the U.S. (They are financially stronger than the United States.) “

NOT even CLOSE to the Truth…Here’s but ONE example..

MEXICO CITY -- Even with oil at $118 a barrel, Mexico's state-run oil company is losing money.
But a presidential plan to fix Petroleos Mexicanos by inviting foreign help is riling deep-seated emotions over sovereignty - and causing a paralysis that could doom America's third-largest oil supplier.
Leftist legislators have padlocked the doors of Congress, camping out in the chambers for two weeks in protest. Opponents on the right have attacked them in a national TV ad, invoking images of Adolf Hitler.
Everyone in Mexico - from top leaders to housewives - seems to be swept up in the fervor.
While President Felipe Calderon's administration calls the congressional lockdown an international embarrassment, Fernanda de Jesus Arriola gives up her afternoon soaps and takes her young children to march in Mexico City.
"Calderon is a right-winger who is going to take away our way of life," said Arriola, 35, pulling her 6-year-old daughter's pink Barbie suitcase as her family walked with hundreds of protesters. "It's the same as strangling us because foreign oil companies are exploiters who will enslave us."
Pemex is rapidly running out of the oil that provides more than one-third of Mexico's federal budget. Finding more will require drilling thousands of feet below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico - an exceedingly difficult challenge. Nearly everyone agrees that Pemex lacks the c

capacity to accomplish this without serious reforms.
The trouble is, Mexico's Constitution bans Pemex from joint ventures with private and foreign companies that have the technology and expertise to find oil in such deep water.

OK ... Economics 101.... It isnt the Oil companies who have 7 percent profit margin. The profits look so high because they produce so much volumne. But the Criminals are the Speculators who got this Oil up to 125 today. With demand down from last year (according to experts on Fox Busines), and inventory twice of last year, he says there is no reason gas should be this high except for the Speculator making the price this high.

Really, then what is all those reports of oil companies and their record earns every quarter? Additionally, if it is speculators, the why isn't gas going up in other countries?

The truth is, their is a different truth every couple of weeks.

Hey, I've got about a hundred bumper stickers that read "The Oil Companies Stand Behind Their Customers - Bend Over America". I had them printed in 1990 during the first Gulf War when gas went from less than a dollar to about $1.50. I used to go off on the oil companies incessantly.

But in my old age, I have grown more capitalistic in my philosophies. Don't get me wrong; it s*cks - I drive a LOT and I burn a LOT of gas.

But you know what? As much time as I spend driving I-75 back-and-forth between Gainesville and Tampa, I am almost always the slowest vehicle on the road at 63-67 MPH. Everyone b!tches about the price of gas but no one (FloydFreak notwithstanding) seems to be slowing down in an effort to quell demand. Until that happens, it's gonna keep going up.

Once the economy slows down sufficiently (as though it hasn't yet), demand will go down which should bring things back into some semblance of equilibrium.

I do not profess to be an economist but that's the way I see it.

Last year the big five oil companies made around $123 billion in profits. Pretty strong. But what was their profit margin? Around 9%. Same as the year before and the year before that. The politicians can't pander to the dumb American public by slamming profit margins ... so they play the dishonest game of slamming the gross profits, and the media lets them skate. They start talking about "windfall" profits. Tell me ... how is it a windfall profit when the profit margin is remaining effectively the same? Some windfall.
Do you know why they get away with this nonsense? Because the dumb masses they're preaching to were largely educated in government schools. If you shoved what they know about economics up an ant's ass it would rattle around like a BB in a boxcar.
Some politicians, of course, want to take this situation with gas prices and figure out a way to turn it into another government entitlement program. They point out that some low-income Americans pay as much as 10% of their incomes for fuel. So .. what to do? Let's make some more suggestions as to how the oil companies should spend their profits. Two senators, Republican Olympia Snowe of Maine and Democrat Jack Reed of Rhode Island have asked the oil companies to voluntarily help "low income" consumers. They want the oil companies to contribute to a fund to help "low income" consumers pay for this upcoming winter's heating bills. Oh and to also pay for their transportation costs later this summer. The Senators complain that these big oil companies "need to share some of their profits with consumers who are in need.

The DEMOCRATS have to invent a Boogyman to justify their greed..What I want to know is,, HOW is the Government's NEW aquisition of Revenue going to help US with Prices..

TAX Profits and you HAMPER operations,,Create a shortage while increasing demand because of the reduced inventory..THAT MEANS HIGHER PRICES..

And remember something..TAXES are a COST of doing Business..CORPORATIONS do NOT PAY Corporate taxes,,their CUSTOMERS do..

ALL you acomplish here with ANY increased tax is in INCREASING the Corporation's role as a TAX COLLECTOR..

I LOVE the double talk when that POS Schumer was asked the question " Wait a minute,,we TRIED his once before and it was a DISASTER for the Consumer for 11 years"..

His reply was that THIS time they were going to ONLY tax "Windfall" profits..Well Hell..THAT'S what they said LAST time..And they were LYING last time ASHE is now..The Oil Companies pay as much as 40% of their INCOME in Taxes..

It's a SCAM by a Party that's USED to Pulling Scams..And getting away with it..

Oops! Now you went and done it! DoglasChick here was trying to squeek another liberal hack piece in here, but some people with FACTS and perspective have ruined it again!!

Those RECORD profits come from companies like EXXON/Mobile or Conocco/Phillips.. they used to be 4 companies before they merged just to stay in business only 20 years ago, but I didn't see any libs comming after the billions then....

You libs want to sock it to "Big Oil" do ya? Then bring in a supply OUTSIDE of the middle east! OPEC got ya down? Then lets just pump our own, and let them sell their inflated priced oil to China then! Matter of fact, lets get our own and leave Chavez to find someoone else to refine his special crude then!

We could get the last 5% unemployed working, and bring revenue into this nation hand over fist! Sell our coal to others as well! I say we just take all the enviromental nuts and drop them off ontop of Mt. Everest and lets get to it!

The libs, and the libs, and the liberals. You sound like my 15 year old daughter talking about the conservatives. The Consevs this and the conservs that. Both of you need to think for yourselves.
