Do you ever wonder what makes some people in life successful and others just seem to skate along holding their own. It has nothing to do with what you do for a living or how much money you make. It is more of an attitude and an ability to do the right things at the right time. I know business owners who can barely scrape payroll together and I know laborers who have all the toys and a very happy family life.
My father was a very successful builder, he built large buildings and small houses he built what ever he was asked to do. He never owned the company he was a paid foreman who worked his way up from the bottom. I believe his top pay was a little over $175 a week when he retired in 1969. He surely wasn’t rich in money but he and my mother were very comfortable and made a wonderful life for my brothers and I. They managed to pay for their house and all their bills, keep us clothed and well fed and support all our sports activities over the years of our youth. There was always room at our house for our friends whose families were not so fortunate. My father never believed in taking anything from anyone if he didn’t earn it. One thing that I was taught at a very early stage in my life was that I was responsible for my own actions.
If my brothers or I broke something or got into trouble we were taught that it pays to own up to our crime and face what ever punishment deemed necessary. Excuses for an error in judgement was not an option yet mistakes were easily forgiven. It seems now days too many people make excuses for their actions and even blame everyone but themselves for errors in judgement. When thing go badly, it’s time to face yourself in the mirror and ask why, not to look for the easy excuse to blame for your failure. I know a lot of people who constantly look to blame others for their lot in life when they should be looking for solutions to their dilemma and ways to climb out of the hole they dug.
Just take a look at what happens when a child gets in trouble in school now days. Mom runs down and demands to know why their child is being punished, when I was a kid my mom would run down to the school just to make me apologize for my actions and drag me by the ear all the way home. God help me when Pop came home.
There are so many people who feel the government should take care of them that it is draining the will of the people who work to pay for these programs. When a person finally learns that they can always do a better job with what they earn than the government does to take care of and support their families, they usually start on the road to prosperity and happiness. It’s not what you earn in life, it’s what you do with what you earn. The old expression; Hard work never hurt anyone, is still true today it’s just a little mis-understood by some.
And that’s my opinion,
Don

I am married 67 years old and a businessman in Northern Nevada. My political views come from the experience of my 66 years and 40 of them in business for myself. I believe in a commonsense approach to government rather than a reactionary one. I believe in welfare for the person trying to re-establish rather than the present form where it is impossible to get off the roles once on. Man should be rewarded for his actions not his inaction.
