Monday, April 7, 2008 Are we too late to save America?

Am I all alone when I shout out for respect for our Country, our flag and our way of life? I wonder, is my voice falling on deaf ears? Ears that never intended to understand what I feel or what this country means to me. Every day I read news stories about murder, rape, child pornography and other sleazy crimes and it makes me wonder; is my America too far gone to recover? It’s like France must have felt when the Nazi’s marched in. The crimes committed against the civilian population in that case is no different than the crimes being committed against the civilian population in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Miami and many other cities by gangs mostly who are here illegally in the first place. Gangs who have absolutely no regard for human life or property. Gangs who start recruiting kids as young as 12 and 13 into their violent life style. We have the war protesters who oppose our military with every fiber in their being yet they turn a deaf ear to the violence on our own streets. More Americans die here because of gang violence every year than the total dead in Iraq over a five year war. Where are the Michael Moore documentaries and the Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn groups in this battle? The violence in our society is being perpetuated by ruthless entrepreneurs who are making a fortune developing new and even more violent video games to deaden the senses of our youth. The lack of morality in entertainment is just one more facet of the demoralization of our youth. I don’t advocate censorship for adults who wish to be entertained in this way I just think it should be harder for underage children to obtain. Even the television commercials today are much more risqué then the burlesque shows of the 30’s & 40’s. If you were a child of the 40’s and 50’s you grew up with the good guys in the movies always winning. Hop a long always got his man and the girl in the end. You knew that the Rifleman or the Lone Ranger would always come out on top, why, because it was right over wrong and that was the message we carried through out our youth. Today’s kids are mired in violent cartoons and video games and their hero’s are less than character builders. Even their music is violent in many cases and leads to a desensitizing of their values to the point that life itself is secondary to them. How many kids today can recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag? How many can say the Lords Prayer without reading it. Does even one in a hundred know the words to the Star Spangled Banner or the Battle Hymn of the Republic? We have let this society of fools take away our country. Yes I said we, I ask you who amongst us has stood up and demanded reform? Is it too late to get it back? I don’t know and I’m too damn old start a movement now but a lot of you aren’t too old but are you too complacent to worry about it? I sincerely hope not because at the rate this country is slipping away a whole bunch of you better get a move on.

And that's my opinion,
Don

Barring disabilities 66 is hardly too old to get something beneficial started in this society. I do understand where you're coming from though. The "good old days are gone" crowd is overlooking the fact that the same poets who wrote the Battle Hymn of the Republic also studied the words of the teacher who said,

"Do not say, 'Why were the old days better than these?' For it is not wise to ask such questions." - Ecclesiastes 7:10

Besides even Chuck Conners as Lukas Mc Cain was always putting Mark in harms way by letting questionable characters in his house. Now we have shelters, missions and drug programs. Yup... ole Mc Cain was a liberal as a rifle slinger in the old west could be.

After the Los Angeles riots in the early nineties I got back in uniform with the Cal Guard cause I figured if that ever happened again I could help out.

Maybe it's just our age, Don, or could it be the evils of the TV world has tainted every aspect of "normal". It seems even the colleges are run by such liberal leftists, so even a college graduate doesn't seem to have a grasp on what is right or wrong - they are all too busy trying to make more $$, have more toys, a bigger house, more travel, and less "quality" time for anything of substance.I'm very sad to feel it is too late, as I have some pretty special grandkids and I would love to know they will be able to enjoy some peace in their life. I'm afraid we have been too apathetic for much too long and now we are paying the price. Damn those were some good times in the 50's and 60's weren't they!? That's what I wish for everyone now......or was I just too young and stupid to know things were starting down a slippery slope even then??? Where the hell is Eisenhower when you need him?? ha ha As far as being too old to start a movement - we're never to old - you can still write, so if ya just write one congressman or senator each week that would be a start. And I can tell ya, it is cathartic-I've been writing for over 5 years and even though I know most of the time the flunky interns are reading them, a few get through and I am probably on some government hit list someplace ha ha So good luck to you and all of us - we have to think positive -I'm not ready to throw in the towel quite yet!

Sadly you'll probably be alive to see the end of America and the beginning of the North American Union. All three candidates have the same borderless agenda and all three are working hard to make sure that nightmare becomes a reality. Let your grandchildren know what it used to be like to live in a democratic society.

I certainly agree with you, that we as a nation; are slipping in the wrong direction. This is not squarely the case on an individual basis. I don't feel that it is ever too late to mitigate undesirable circumstances. Yet I know that it is prudent, to determine what are the causes and affects of each matter. If the bath tub of life is running over, and our action is simply to mop up the water, our efforts are simply delusive.

I'd answer your question, but you seem to delete all responses. I take it you're not a big believer in the first amendment.

I am married 67 years old and a businessman in Northern Nevada. My political views come from the experience of my 66 years and 40 of them in business for myself. I believe in a commonsense approach to government rather than a reactionary one. I believe in welfare for the person trying to re-establish rather than the present form where it is impossible to get off the roles once on. Man should be rewarded for his actions not his inaction.
