It looks to me that we are now down to two candidates for President of the United States. One a war veteran and former P.O.W. who has been in the Senate for several terms named McCain and the other a relatively new ½ term senator from Chicago, Obama.

Although I am not entirely enthralled with McCain’s record on the national borders, his ties with Kennedy and Feinstein and a few other things that I would call mis-steps on his part, I feel he is hands down the most qualified of the two. The money that has been spent buying votes in this country by the House and Senate comes from our pockets, we the people who actually do the work and earn a living in this country.

We have been nickel and dimed to death and the idea of putting another diehard from the liberal side in charge of matters has me scared to death. Neither of these candidates has ever just worked for a living and Obama has not even had the experience of the military to fall back on. He was an activist in Chicago politics representing the black community in housing, welfare and all other things political in the Daley machine. He did all this to work up for his run for the Senate. Has he ever had a 9 to 5? Not likely, he has always earned his money from the teet of government.

Putting the possible scenario of his Presidency together with the liberal House with Reid and Pelosi that we now have is asking for this country to self destruct. The working class will soon find it better to receive than to give and no one will be left to tax. The very principles of the founding fathers have been stretched and convoluted to the point of breaking by liberalism in the courts and in the area of representation.

If that is what the majority of the American people want then I am way out of touch with right and wrong. I was brought up to believe that man should be rewarded for his positive actions not his negative inactions. With welfare structured the way it is and along with the availability of section eight housing programs, what incentive does one have to work? Once entrenched in the welfare system it is nearly impossible to get free. Check the family histories in the welfare rolls and you will find the same families generation after generation sopping up the gravy created by your hard earned tax money.

And that's my opinion,

Do you ever wonder what makes some people in life successful and others just seem to skate along holding their own. It has nothing to do with what you do for a living or how much money you make. It is more of an attitude and an ability to do the right things at the right time. I know business owners who can barely scrape payroll together and I know laborers who have all the toys and a very happy family life.

My father was a very successful builder, he built large buildings and small houses he built what ever he was asked to do. He never owned the company he was a paid foreman who worked his way up from the bottom. I believe his top pay was a little over $175 a week when he retired in 1969. He surely wasn’t rich in money but he and my mother were very comfortable and made a wonderful life for my brothers and I. They managed to pay for their house and all their bills, keep us clothed and well fed and support all our sports activities over the years of our youth. There was always room at our house for our friends whose families were not so fortunate. My father never believed in taking anything from anyone if he didn’t earn it. One thing that I was taught at a very early stage in my life was that I was responsible for my own actions.

If my brothers or I broke something or got into trouble we were taught that it pays to own up to our crime and face what ever punishment deemed necessary. Excuses for an error in judgement was not an option yet mistakes were easily forgiven. It seems now days too many people make excuses for their actions and even blame everyone but themselves for errors in judgement. When thing go badly, it’s time to face yourself in the mirror and ask why, not to look for the easy excuse to blame for your failure. I know a lot of people who constantly look to blame others for their lot in life when they should be looking for solutions to their dilemma and ways to climb out of the hole they dug.

Just take a look at what happens when a child gets in trouble in school now days. Mom runs down and demands to know why their child is being punished, when I was a kid my mom would run down to the school just to make me apologize for my actions and drag me by the ear all the way home. God help me when Pop came home.

There are so many people who feel the government should take care of them that it is draining the will of the people who work to pay for these programs. When a person finally learns that they can always do a better job with what they earn than the government does to take care of and support their families, they usually start on the road to prosperity and happiness. It’s not what you earn in life, it’s what you do with what you earn. The old expression; Hard work never hurt anyone, is still true today it’s just a little mis-understood by some.

And that’s my opinion,

Every week I try to give you something to think about, something that you may not hear or see anywhere else. This week I hope you got your thinking caps on and are ready to really use them.

We all go about our business every day with the same thoughts the same goals and the same attitudes. I don’t mean we all have the same thoughts but at my age we are pretty stuck in our philosophies. When you’re young your philosophy may vary from day to day or week to week but as we grow older we become pretty stuck in our ways. We know in our hearts what is right and what is wrong for us and I find most people my age feel similar about things.

We are disgusted with the lack of morality in the country. We are looking for a leader with enough kahonies to straighten out what we feel is wrong with the world. We don’t understand how people could find fault with saying a prayer now and then. We wish they would get back to teaching the three R’s in schools and let the parents teach morals and sex education according to their beliefs. We want our politicians to work towards making our country a better place for us not all of mankind. We would like to see a Christmas tree in the courthouse or in the village square. We would like to hear the school choir singing carols like they used too.

We are not selfish or bigoted because we want what’s ours to remain ours. We worked hard our whole lives for what we have, only to watch it being slowly diminished just like our rights and freedoms are being diluted by the problem of illegal immigration and the politicians who would stand by and allow it to happen. I guess we just feel cheated because we trusted our government to protect and secure our future just as it has for generations.

We listen to politicians preach about change, change what? We’ve all heard that BS before many times and the only change we’ve ever gotten is more welfare for those who refuse to work and more freebee’s for the ones who use and abuse the system while we pay for their windfall. Do I sound bitter? I’m really not, it’s just that this country has always been the beacon for all who desire freedom and are willing to go through all the effort to come here legally just as my grandparents did and probably yours too. To see this country of ours diminished in any way is a form of torture for us.

America was built on the backs of poor immigrants who came here to make a better life. Nothing was handed to them in the form of free medical or free housing or even free food. This country was built by workers who took pride in their families and even more pride in their new country. Generations of these Great Americans have died while protecting our freedoms and to sit back and watch the greatness of this country slowly having the life sucked out of it so politicians can buy votes for re-election is too much to handle for most of us.

And that's my opinion,

Who in their right mind would ever want to be President of the United States? Just think about it, you really can’t do a damn thing that might actually accomplish something. You can make recommendations but not laws, you can send up a budget but you can’t ratify it. You can veto but not adjust a bill to make it palatable. Every step you make is under the scrutiny of the press and Congress.

You may hold the most prestigious job in the world but you are at the mercy of the 545 professional politicians in the House and Senate. Your job can not last more than eight years but the people who control all you do have unlimited terms. You will take the blame for everything imaginable and the people who are actually in control will skate along to the music and never face the consequences of their actions. If you listen to the politicians you would almost be convinced that the economy, the price of gas and the housing crisis were all of your making.

The fact that we didn’t have these crisis’s until after the last election when the House and Senate was remade in the form of Pelosi and Reid does not register with the general public. No, you’re to blame Mr. President, you must have purposely caused the banks to get greedy and take those bad loans. You must have purposely caused India and China to become huge users of oil to make the barrel prices go up. You must have drugged the water in the House and Senate to get them to believe there was cause to go into Iraq.

Surely it must be your fault that the schools of America are breeding grounds for violence and sex. You must be responsible for the dreadful movies our kids watch and the violent computer games they play each day. I’m sure that the professional politicians must be right when they tell us what a terrible leader you are. I’m sure they wouldn’t pass the buck if it weren’t true.

No, I wouldn’t be President for all the tea in China. Just think an athlete going into the pro’s in almost any major sport will make an average of several million dollars a year and do what ever he wants with really no liability or responsibility to his fans or the public. The President of these United States has the weight of the world on his shoulders and only makes a few hundred thousand a year. Gosh, is something amiss here?

I received an email from a friend today that set me to thinking. It was basically a reflection on what it was like to be raised in the 40’s and 50’s. I wish with all my heart that I could send my grandchildren back to that time for just one week so that they could understand why I am the way I am. Neither my bride nor I were raised in a wealthy family. Things were not always easy, everything we obtained over the years we got by working for it. People back then worked together to make things easier. Neighbors were close and often knew each other for over thirty years. Families were important then, I remember dinner time was a time for daily reflection and Saturday night was bath night. We didn’t have a shower to stand under each morning but we seemed to get by and I really don’t remember anyone being stinky. We all had to be bright and shiney for church Sunday morning. My folks were always involved in what ever us kids were up to and were there for all of our sports and school activities. Aunts and Uncles were like second parents and were there for you if you need them. We didn’t always have a TV so we played board games if it was raining or we just played outside till dark when we could. Imaginations ran wild in our play, from Cowboys and Indians to soldiers against the Germans and cops and robbers, we could make up more games than Parker brothers in a single night. A real treat was to go to the drugstore soda fountain for a milkshake or malted. Our parents didn’t have to worry about drugs in our day oh maybe we would steel a cigarette or two from dads pack just to try them out but it usually ended up with getting caught in the act and sitting through a lecture on how it would stunt our growth. I remember the movies on Saturday afternoon at the old Beacon Theatre. It would be a serial with either Roy Rogers and Dale Evans or Hop A Long Cassidy. Of course the good guys always won in the end and we would go home acting out the great adventure we had just seen. Did I mention that movies were just a dime? I remember Gabby Hayes and Jingles and all the great sidekicks of the time. Our friends were like those sidekicks, they were always there for you when you needed help. Man do I wish I could let my grandkids see what those days were like, I don’t think they would want to come back to today if they did. When we did get a TV the raciest thing on it was Annette Funichello from the Mickey Mouse club. Everyone I knew had the hots for her. In those days girls were usually Tomboys until they were at least thirteen. Most of them were as tough as the boys especially my cousin Barbara. We walked to school from the time we were in first grade and in our case it was at least a mile and a half. Parents didn’t have to worry about child molesters bothering us, I guess there weren’t any back then or maybe it was the fact that moms all along the way looked out for us. Yes I could go on for ever but it’s not going to bring those days back. We just have to do our best to make these days a lot better instead.

And that’s my opinion,

Jack Murtha, the turncoat of the Marine Corps who claimed they were killers and rapists has endorsed McCain by proxy. Since no one can believe a word Murtha says, his stating that McCain is too old to be president must mean just the opposite. Let’s look at facts; Murtha served in the Corps as an adjutant and saw very little or no combat yet somehow sports the medals of a hero. We all know McCains war record and he sure deserved any medal awarded him. McCain could more than likely out run, out gun and out wrestle Murtha with one hand behind his back. Age is irrelevant in this case as it’s the stuff you’re made of that counts here. Out of the three candidates for president only one has any experience in Foreign relations, in military matters and in daily operations of the government. Mr. Obama has 4 years as a junior Senator, Mrs. Clinton isn’t much farther ahead in her role as a Senator. Our goal as a nation in this election should be to put the most qualified person in charge of what they charmingly call the football. It should not be who the blackest person is or the most feminine, it is simply a time for solid experience. If you elect a person to office simply by race or gender you are selling our children of tomorrow short. We all have been taught that we are all Americans and all bleed the same blood when cut so how does the color of ones skin make him qualified to be president? It’s time to wake up before it’s too late, credentials are what we should be looking at and not charm. This president to be elected is going to reign over a period of time in our history that will someday be looked at as pivotal to our survival. Without strong decisive leadership at this point in time, our country will be reduced to that of a second class citizen of the world. We cannot be so blind as to allow the far left to take over our great nation. Their objective has been to make one perfect world out of the entire earth. We work ½ a year now before we earn a dime for ourselves, add the rest of the world to the equation and see how long it takes. We are headed in the direction now for a North American single government if the present path continues and the wrong moves now will cement it. Even our friend McCain is of this ilk and should be watched carefully. This is our America and we had better start standing up for her sovereignty before it’s too late to save her.

And that’s my opinion,

I would like to propose a Nation wide State by State stimulus to get our economy back on track. I think that each State should offer a tax free day. A day where everyone could shop till their hearts content and not pay a pennies worth of sales tax. Just think of the savings on big purchases like a washer and dryer or a refrigerator or even a car or truck. Wouldn’t that get people back out shopping? I know it’s only for one day but I don’t think any of the states could afford any more than that. I’ll bet you that it would be a bigger shopping day than the day after Thanksgiving and it would give business’s a booster shot to carry them over the hump. The states that have no sales tax could make it a tax deductible day for state income tax.

Every year we all work well into May and June just to pay our taxes. If you total up all the taxes we pay it amounts to an unbelievable figure. Gas tax, sales tax, property tax, income tax, various permits and don’t forget excise and license taxes. Yes I consider the amount paid for your automobile license a tax too. What else would you call it? If you total all the various taxes we pay I’m sure it comes close to 50% of our income. Even if they could come up with a ½ tax week, just think about it a whole week and only pay ½ the sales tax due. One thing I’ll bet would happen is that the state governments would find out that by making things more affordable even at the ½ sales tax rate they would collect more actual dollars due to the increase in spending. The thing that government officials fail to take into consideration is that when business is good more money gets put back into the community. More people are hired to take care of the increase in customers which translates into less unemployment rates and less people on welfare. I would say that sounds like a win-win situation.

Our little community here in Nevada is no different than anywhere else in the country, the only difference is our economy is stimulated by the price of beef, the tonnage price on alfalfa and the market price on onions. When you look at all these commodities you have to take into consideration the cost of production. Water is no longer an unlimited free resource, grains are getting higher and higher due to the alternative fuel use which makes finishing out cattle twice as expensive as it has been in past years. The cost of running trucks and equipment has doubled due to the over inflated price of fuel. Nothing comes easy during times like these, least of all making a living or just getting by on a fixed income. The worse part of all this is the fact that this is a derived recession brought on by over eager politicians and a press that is less than friendly to the present administration. The high cost of fuel is the result of the lack of attention by an administration who has been pre occupied trying to sell it’s policies and a congress that is more interested in the placing of blame than helping the people they represent to get through this crisis. Out of the hundreds of millions of people here in the United States there are 545 people who could change everything if they had the desire and that is the House and Senate members in Washington. They are responsible for everything that happens in this country. If the congress really wanted us out of Iraq, we would be out of Iraq. If the congress wanted to bring down the price of oil they could do so in an instant by working together and opening up the strategic reserves. If the congress wanted to stimulate the economy they could do so by decreasing the tax burden on the very people who spend money. They are so busy trying to buy the votes of the poor with good old standby rhetoric that they are stifling the income producers and suffocating the very people they claim to be trying to help. More free services and socialized medicine are not going to bring the economy back. Moderation in government is the real answer, not a greater tax burden. This administration and this congress have allowed spending to soar out of control each trying to buy the special interest votes necessary to stay in office. I say we get rid of all of them and start over.

And that’s my opinion,

Don

Ahhh, April 15th, what a wonderful date it is. It is probably the most hated date in all of the United States. Who are these people who hate April 15th? Could it be the achievers of the work force? Every year we work at least half of the year for everyone else and the last half for ourselves. Just think, if Obama or Hillary have their way we will be working ¾ of the year for everyone else and ¼ for ourselves. I don’t mind being charitable but enough is enough. I’ve had to work for everything I’ve gotten in life and it galls me to at the age of 66 to be paying for some druggie that never worked a day in his or her life. Just like nature there comes a time to push even the laziest bird out of the nest. I have never batted an eye when it comes to helping the handicapped or giving a healthy person a stake to get back on their feet but it ends there. Some of these welfare nesters have been sucking on the Federal teat way too long and someone has to come up with a solution to get them off. More welfare and free medical and food programs is not the answer. I have never read where it is a persons right to be lazy and expect others to feed and clothe them. I have seen time after time where welfare families breed more welfare families. Mother to daughter, Father to son and on and on. Show me a politician that breaks this cycle of reliance on the government and I’ll personally build him or her a statue and bow down to it. We have farmers who cry for laborers and end up importing their help from south of the border at the same time we have millions of people on the welfare roles taking the free food that these farmers are growing. It doesn’t take a masters in economics to see that we have a problem here. Why not issue work credits to be used for assistance at a later date. Make the law read that a healthy person can not draw welfare for over a one year period they must have at least a five year work period before they can draw it again. Rather than sitting on their butts in the cities waiting for the next handout the head of these welfare households could follow the lead of their friends in Mexico. Go where the work is and earn their way into the working mans society. It’s easy to sit back in their easy chair and talk about how the imported Mexican workers are taking their jobs but few if any would be willing to do the work required. It is so ridiculous that we have known gang bangers sitting on their duffs while their ladies draw welfare and support them. If you think I’m kidding go to some of these agencies and look around. Some of these people are no more than breeders, the more kids they have the more money it brings in. It’s time for the merry go round to stop, even the wooden horses are tired of this fools parade. Having a child is sacred and a parents responsibility not that of the State. If they continue to follow this lifestyle there is always such a thing as foster homes. At least then the children would learn a work ethic and break the cycle of reliance.

And that's my opinion,

Don

Monday, April 7, 2008 Are we too late to save America?

Am I all alone when I shout out for respect for our Country, our flag and our way of life? I wonder, is my voice falling on deaf ears? Ears that never intended to understand what I feel or what this country means to me. Every day I read news stories about murder, rape, child pornography and other sleazy crimes and it makes me wonder; is my America too far gone to recover? It’s like France must have felt when the Nazi’s marched in. The crimes committed against the civilian population in that case is no different than the crimes being committed against the civilian population in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Miami and many other cities by gangs mostly who are here illegally in the first place. Gangs who have absolutely no regard for human life or property. Gangs who start recruiting kids as young as 12 and 13 into their violent life style. We have the war protesters who oppose our military with every fiber in their being yet they turn a deaf ear to the violence on our own streets. More Americans die here because of gang violence every year than the total dead in Iraq over a five year war. Where are the Michael Moore documentaries and the Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn groups in this battle? The violence in our society is being perpetuated by ruthless entrepreneurs who are making a fortune developing new and even more violent video games to deaden the senses of our youth. The lack of morality in entertainment is just one more facet of the demoralization of our youth. I don’t advocate censorship for adults who wish to be entertained in this way I just think it should be harder for underage children to obtain. Even the television commercials today are much more risqué then the burlesque shows of the 30’s & 40’s. If you were a child of the 40’s and 50’s you grew up with the good guys in the movies always winning. Hop a long always got his man and the girl in the end. You knew that the Rifleman or the Lone Ranger would always come out on top, why, because it was right over wrong and that was the message we carried through out our youth. Today’s kids are mired in violent cartoons and video games and their hero’s are less than character builders. Even their music is violent in many cases and leads to a desensitizing of their values to the point that life itself is secondary to them. How many kids today can recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag? How many can say the Lords Prayer without reading it. Does even one in a hundred know the words to the Star Spangled Banner or the Battle Hymn of the Republic? We have let this society of fools take away our country. Yes I said we, I ask you who amongst us has stood up and demanded reform? Is it too late to get it back? I don’t know and I’m too damn old start a movement now but a lot of you aren’t too old but are you too complacent to worry about it? I sincerely hope not because at the rate this country is slipping away a whole bunch of you better get a move on.

And that's my opinion,
Don

Compean and Ramos are names that should be constantly in front of us. These are the two Border Agents who while attempting to do their job of securing our border from illegal immigration and drug smuggling shot a know smuggler carrying over 200 pounds of illegal drugs. Instead of being treated like the Hero’s they were they have been charged with attempted murder and incarcerated in solitary confinement. The Federal Prosecutor Johnny Sutton has taken the law to new lows in his depiction of the event that involved the attempted apprehension of a known smuggler. Osvaldo Aldrete DaVila a known drug smuggler who was shot in the buttocks while attempting to escape capture. The Agents Compean and Ramos were accused of using excess force and covering up evidence , which they have denied. Osvaldo was given immunity by Sutton to testify against the Agents. He has sense committed addition crimes on the border and is under indictment. The continued roadblocks from the Bush administration towards the closing of our border has put many of our agents in danger. In the past several years we have had many serious crimes committed by illegal aliens here in the United States. One in particular was the shooting of a Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff David March. He was murdered by a twice convicted felon in the country illegally named Armondo Garcia. He had been deported three times prior to the death of Deputy March. After the killing of March he eluded law enforcement by slipping back into Mexico. It took five years of tireless work by John and Barbara March, David’s parents to finally get an extradition order in effect on January 9th of this year to bring Garcia back to Los Angeles for trial. Over 1/3 of the 170 plus thousand inmates in California prisons are in there because they were captured committing crimes while in this country illegally. California Congressman and former presidential candidate Duncan Hunter has championed the Compean-Ramos cause and has introduced a Congressional Pardon for these two heroes’. The Supreme Court has not ruled on the constitutionality of the subject there-by stalling the efforts of Hunters staff. The silence from the Bush administration has been a cold hearted slap against the families of slain officers who were killed in the fight against Mexican Gangs here in the United States. I feel that until the Mexican government shows an ability and desire to fight these gangs from their side of the border it should be closed altogether. I ask that anyone planning to travel to Mexico, to cancel their reservations until the Mexican government acts to stifle these out of control gang’s attacking our border daily. How many more brave and dedicated Border Agents and Policemen have to be injured or killed before our government does something? If our government won’t act to defend us we can do it by taking away their income from tourism.

And that’s my opinion,

Don

As we progress through this century we are going to be faced with many obstacles. First is the threat of the cultural conflict with what many call the Radical Muslims of the world. I have heard so little from the so-called moderate Muslims that I’m beginning to wonder if there is any such thing. We as Americans have a problem defining anything violent and murderous as a religion. In our vocabulary God is a beautiful thing and a caring being. His own words, "vengeance is mine" tells the story better than anything I can say. In the Koran vengeance is place upon the individual and left to his interpretation. I was raised believing that all religions were similar and we were taught not to fear the differences in them. I guess the Pastors that taught me hadn’t read the Koran. The one thing we have always had going for us is our pride in our country. Since the aftermath of the Korean War I have felt that pride diminish in so many of our youth. Don’t get me wrong, most of the young people today are patriots in the first degree, it’s just that the few who make the most noise seem to get all the headlines. With the fiasco of Viet Nam fresh in our minds and the anti war movement that gained so much ground during that era we can’t help but have doubts about war. It especially makes it worse when our media shoves nothing but death and destruction at us daily. Am I the only one that remembers why we are in this war? It seems to me that we were attacked by mad men who very purposely killed and maimed our people who were just going about their business as usual on a beautiful morning. It was a planned attack by a ruthless group of Muslims who think the world belongs to them alone. They are not interested in talking with us or any other type of negotiation, they just believe they have the right to destroy us and our way of life. We went into Afghanistan and cleared out their training camps and killed many of their recruits. We were still left with the fact that their leaders and many followers had escaped into the mountains. I believe that our government had no choice but to choose a place and a time to fight this war. Had we stopped with Afghanistan we would be fighting them here in the United States by now. By going into Iraq we created a war to draw them out and keep them from further attacks here in the USA. We made many mistakes in this war because we had never trained for this type of campaign before. We have always been prepared for a war with another country not a army of religious zealots who are willing to throw women and children into the crossfire. Our Hero’s who are winning this fight for all of us deserve to have our complete backing. They understand where the finish line is and are risking their lives daily to get there for us. They above all are not ready to leave this battle before it’s finished. They and they alone are keeping our streets safe from terrorists by facing them bravely and keeping this war away from our shores.

And that’s my opinion,

Don

As I sit down to write you this evening I am reminded of the little boy who cried Wolf. I hear the pundits on the television and on the radio telling us how to vote. They tell us what terrible things will happen if we vote for this one or that one. Just like the little boy in the story they keep yelling wolf. I don’t know about you but my vote is sacred. A whole lot of good men died to give me my right to vote and I myself wore a uniform for 6 years to insure that right. I will not be pretentious enough to try to tell you how to use your precious right to vote either. I just ask that you think clearly and evaluate each candidate before you vote. Not just those in your party but all candidates. The reason I am so adamant about thinking things through is that your vote also effects me and my families life tremendously. Our next election is not until November so there is no excuse not to read up on each candidate’s records to make a sound decision on Election Day. Do they share your true values? Do they have the ability to manage our affairs safely and with determination? Have they the experience necessary to face our adversaries and not blink? Lastly do they have the ability to bring all parties together republican and democrat to actually accomplish something? We cannot afford another 4 years with the likes of the last congress and executive branch. We are Americans first and foremost our first allegiance should always be to our country not our political party. I am just old enough to remember the sacrifices we suffered during World War II. The ration stamps and the shortages experienced by everyone at home was nothing compared to the sacrifices made by our military in Europe and the South Pacific. During that tragic time in history we had very few who thought they knew more than our President and our military leaders. We suffered along with our troops in every battle. Ladies got together and made bandages to ship over seas. We purchased War Bonds to finance our efforts. Above all we banded together as one. There were no Democrats or Republicans, we were all just Americans fighting for our countries honor. Today we are faced with a different America, one whose people are fractured by political separatism and a true shortage of patriotism. Many of our schools and universities have been a breeding ground for this attitude of anti American rhetoric. We are fighting for our very lives this time. The reason we have been forced into this battle is because we have shown weakness in the last two wars we fought. Just like the school grounds everyone likes to pick on the big kid who has no stomach for a fight. Our troops have always been the bravest and the strongest it’s our politicians who have shown our enemies our weakness. This isn’t the same America I grew up in, it’s not even close. My America was proud and stood for something special, its people were in it together what ever it was, from helping a neighbor to fighting for what was right and just, we were Americans first and foremost and everyone wanted to be just like us.

And that’s my opinion,

Don

What would be the benefit if the House of Representatives and the Senate decided to work toward understanding what Americans really wanted? Do you think the general population here in the United States are polarized to the far left or the far right? I heard the figure that the majority of Americans feel their views are 5% to the left of center. I beg to differ with that synopses, The bulk of the people that I talk to are basically what the world for years has called the Silent Majority and they sure as heck aren’t leaning to the left. Most are true blue Americans who still salute the flag and have respect for God and country. I must be really out of touch with reality because the crowd I associate with still get a shiver of delight at the sound of the National Anthem. We still take off our hats and hold our hands over our heart as the flag is presented and the pledge of allegiance is spoken. Most still have respect for the Constitution but dismay at some of the interpretation that have been made by liberal courts. Most in my crowd of misfits still believe that the Death Penalty is as good of deterrent as there is against capital crime. We also think our borders are to porous and too many illegal aliens are using up our assets. We are also worried about the direction of this countries moral compass and what it will be for our next generation. We understand that no matter who is in power in an election year the economy will suffer and be used as a gauge for change. Guys my age will usually be the first to tell you that if you lower taxes the economy will improve and if you raise taxes it will tank. We have seen the results of high taxes in the Carter years and the outstanding results of the Reagan tax cuts. We have lived through the years of 18 to 20% interest rates in inflationary periods and survived the high house payments that accompanied them. What most of our crowd will tell you about the situation now is that if they lowered taxes by 10% across the board the governments revenue would increase by a minimum of 20%. This is a proven fact and is because of the amount of money available for people to spend. More money spent the greater the tax revenue. When the people spend companies grow and hire more employees. Less unemployment less welfare and unemployment insurance costs. So when a politician tells you that they have to raise taxes it’s not to make things better it’s so they can get more people under the influence government services there-by trapping them into the cycle of servitude. Very few people who dwell under this influence ever escape the grasp of welfare. The more that is offered the less incentive to work their way out.

And that’s my opinion,

Don

I am married 66 years old and a businessman in Northern Nevada. My political views come from the experience of my 66 years and 40 of them in business for myself. I believe in a commonsense approach to government rather than a reactionary one. I believe in welfare for the person trying to re-establish rather than the present form where it is impossible to get off the roles once on. Man should be rewarded for his actions not his inaction.
