Tales of the DVK

Apparently there is some question as to who should receive the multi-million dollar inheritance from the late pro wrestler Chris Benoit. If you are not familiar with the story, Benoit for whatever reason killed his family and then himself. Under Georgia law it breaks down to a seemingly simple question: Who did he kill first - his wife or his son?

If he killed his wife, Nancy, first then his 2 children from a previous marriage will receive the inheritance.

If he killed his son first then his wife's family will receive the inheritance.

Technically it was Benoit himself who died last but there is a Slayer Statute that in legal terms causes him to be considered the first person who died.

So let me get this straight...
His in-laws are trying to prevent his other biological children from receiving the inheritance?

Why would they do that? In a statement they said they are just trying to make sure money goes to the legal heir. Yeah, right! It looks to me like they are being greedy and vindictive. They are mad about Nancy's death and they want to feel better about it by taking money away from children. We're talking millions of dollars so of course it is very tempting but in a perfect world (which of course this one is not) the money would be divided equally among any surviving children with no questions asked.

Thoughts?

Whomever came up with the statement that money is the root of all evils had this case in mind.

His in-laws could care less about his other kids so they're in it for themselves obviously. That law you stated is really odd, and I thought he killed his wife first.

The in-laws probably didn't like him, since they have had marriage troubles in the past. They figure that the least they could get out of it is a few bucks.

I'll decide who gets the money and charge a 10% fee. Pretty reasonable for an Anonymous of my caliber.

People spend your childrens inheritance before you die ! Enjoy your money , don't leave anything for your children to fight over ! Can't we all just get along ?!!

There is some controversy over whether the wife died first or not. The preliminary observations noted the presence of flies and larvae on and around the wife's body but they were absent from the son's body, suggesting that the wife had died several hours before the son, arguably the night before. The actual autopsies, however, showed some discrepancies with the implied times of death. The bodies were not all found in the same area of the Benoit home so environmental factors and resulting rates of decomposition were not constant from victim to victim.

Long story short, the wife still probably died first but her family is hanging on to any shred of hope they can find to try to screw Benoit's other children out of the inheritance.

Ditto on spending it, LW. I certainly don't want people fighting like this after I die!

i think his sons should get it. but i think his wife family should get just a lil bit. enough to cover the funeral. but i think they should share the wealth amoungs his parents, his sons, and a lil bit for his wife family. but they should get the least.

The funeral expenses should be paid half and half between his and her families and the inheritance should go to the surviving children. After all looking towards the future everything getting more and more expensive. They probably will need it to survive on, especially if it's used towards an education. It should be put to good use. Why not invest in the best education you can recieve. This is my opinion. By the way I grew up watching wrestling from the early 80's to thelate 90's.

The Crippler was entertaining to watch, too bad he had to end his career in this fashion.

All valid points. My main issue is that adults who are old enough to take care of themselves want to take something away from children.

And Crafty, you are absolutely right. It took weeks to determine who should decide where to bury James Brown so why would this be any different? Why ask why?

When my grandmother died, I saw her loving family suddenly scrapping like vultures over what was left of her life. These were good people who suddenly manifested a dark side. I've seen the same thing too many times since. Too many of us become liars and a thieves when there's a little corpse-picking to be done.

You'd think an estate that's "worth millions" would inspire everyone to use the money to provide better futures for the children who are left, rather than give it to land shark attorneys.

Personally, I vowed to do all I can to spend my last dollar with my last breath, and get rid of all my earthly possessions in advance.
