Normally what I find is that people have a multitude of excuses why they can't spend time saving money by cutting out coupons.  Fire away and let me know them and I'll see if I can help you break the excuse habit.

I don't know why anyone would NOT use coupons! Especially when a lot of grocery stores offer double coupons. I save on the average of $8 - $18 a week on groceries with double coupons at Giant Eagle. It really doesn't take that much time - I just cut them out when I am watching TV.

I saw you today on the Fox8; you were great! Your tips were inspiring! Esp. the one about expired coupons. I would just throw them away even tho a lot of them were very good deals that I did not take the advantage when it presented itself! I keep saying I'm going to follow your lead, now I have resolved to do so.

Here's my question - how do you know which store will accept those expired coupons? Do you just present them and hope the cashier won't notice (that does't seem honest) or what?

I don't really have an excuse but more of a question. I have cut coupons and when we go to the store it is still cheaper to buy the generic brands rather then the name brands with the coupon.

I don't shop at Giant Eagle because they are the BIGGEST rip off. We do our shopping at Heinen's. They are a little better.

So what do you suggest. I have no problem clipping coupons and I always would like to save money but sometimes it isn't worth it.

Thanks aseriouswoman. Glad to hear you look to take coupons to the next level. It can get addicting.

As far as expired coupons your best bet is to check with the manager. Each store is different. Many people weren't aware that Tops took expired coupons and that was their policy. Bed Bath & Beyond does. Most stores will take them if they are just a day or two late if you ask. There are some people that just put them in with the unexpired coupons and chance it from there. Some stores have policies that don't allow for expired coupons, but sometimes a manager will take it anyway. After all, they want to keep you as a customer.

rmarkle,

Generics can be cheaper if you are buying a generic vs a non-generic item that isn't on sale. Usually you can find a non-generic item cheaper when buying it on sale plus using a coupon. I'm not sure if you are aware that Giant Eagle doubles coupons that are 99 cents or less. That being the case you can find great deals there. Their everyday non-sale prices aren't so good though. The key is to buy the item on sale at 50% off or more plus use a coupon (especially one that doubles). Heinens has good quality and service, however they don't double coupons. Aldi's and Marc's usually have good everyday prices.

Well thank-you coupon guy! I will check out Giant Eagle with the double coupons. Do they automatically do it or do you need special double coupons?

I think I might become a coupon junkie.

Also thanks for the tip about expired coupons. I wish I would have known that before Tops closed because we had coupons but never used them because they were expired. Good info to save money! Thanks a bunch! Keep bringing the great tips!

The Giant Eagle doubles are automatic. 7 days a week, 24 hours a day in the Cleveland area.

....but Giant Eagle's prices are a crime any day of the week!

I am going to "experiment" with a couple of store after I attend your seminar at the Euclid Library on the 29th.

Dave's Supermarket and Zagarra's. Because you have much experience shopping, I will report my findings to you for perhaps a useful discussion.

People know me as the Coupon Guy. I typically save 70% to 80% every time I go grocery shopping. I usually save more when shopping for toiletries. In order to get such great deals I do rebates, 50% off and more sales, and coupons.
