The Real Face of Jesus

Jesus: Son of Man -- Son of God

 

"...Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests;  but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head." Luke 9:58

"...I am the way, the truth, and the life: No man commeth unto the Father but by me.
"If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also:
"and from henseforth ye know him, and have seen him." John 14:6,7.

 Part One: Son of Man (Luke 9:58)

I have often said that we do things backwards in offering the Bible as a personal means of finding God and salvation through Jesus. 

Nevertheless, religious services, sermons, and pastoral face-to-face readings frequently open the critical faculty of the mind to allow personal access to heretofore unavailable spiritual truth.

People who are desparate and "at the end of their rope" will almost always have a breakthrough experience if they turn to the Bible for guidance! 

The original message of Jesus, both then and now, remains misunderstood by most people who hear it.  It was filtered through the minds of late first-century men who translated fragments of notes written in various dialects of Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek into the "first edition" in Latin a half-century or so after the crucifixion of Jesus.  He died because he refused to abandon his message that threatened both church and state then and thereafter. 

This Latin Bible was prepared by order of Roman Emperor Constantine.  Anyone who believes that ideas he would disaprove would ever be allowed is not familiar with the way in which dictators deal with criticism.

I believe that Jesus discovered and demonstrated, for the first time in history, that we mortals may access and utilize power and guidance from the creative source of everything that exists in the universe!  Using the available knowledge and language of the world he lived in, he sought to teach people he could reach about his discovery.

This lone carpenter from a small town near Jerusalem introduced a concept so radical and powerful that it shook the very foundations of Religions and Kingdoms.  Although people 2,000 years ago didn't know what was happening, the history of the world is divided to this day into times before and after his message!

 

Part Two: Son of God (John 14:6,7)

I suppose there are millions of interpretations of Jesus the Son of God. from the perspective of the person arriving at that opinion.  Many interpretations are precisely correct, many are logically workable, many are completely incorrect, and some are deliberately deceptive.

Throughout recorded history there have been individuals and groups who have demonstrated altered states of consciousness as a pathway to personal achievement, healing, enlightenment, and access to their perception of heaven and God.

People who experience an altered state of consciousness seldom realize it unless they are taught what it is and how to recognize it.  I have used the old stage hypnotist's demonstration of having a subject stiffen their arm and then dissociating their ability to bend it. 

They stuggle and sweat but cannot bend their arm until I give my permission.  After the experience I'll ask "were you hypnotised," and they'll answer "no!"  I've even done this by having them stiffen their entire body, placed them between two chairs, and stood on them -- and they still deny that they were hypnotized.

It is my opinion that Jesus deliberately achieved an altered state of consciousness from which he spoke direct revelations from God.  Furthermore, he not only recognized what was happening, but also tried to convey it to all of us then and since that we could do the same.

Peter and Paul, in the New Testament and Prophets of the Old Testament obtained messages from God in altered states the KJV* Bible calls "Trance."

In practice, all humans can be led into the altered state of mind.  Our minds tend to open to outside suggestions about every 90 minutes during the day when we may or not recognize we have been "daydreaming." 

Listening to speeches lasting more than an hour and a half allows the speaker to bypass our reasoning capacity at least once and plant ideas in our subconscious minds beyond our control. 

We also spontaneously enter the altered state of mind briefly when we express deeply held anger, and when we laugh.

The great artists, athletes and performers look for the "zone," an altered state of consciousness during which they are at their peak ability to achieve their goal.

Jesus entered into his "zone" often while teaching his disciples.  He was so totally into this state that when he used the term "I" he was talking about his total being totally in tune with God.  It was this state of BEING he meant when he said "I AM" (John 14:6,7).  It is only through this altered state that we reach personal access with God - the way, the truth, and the life in the "Jesus Zone."

Jesus the man was chatting with his disciples when he asked who the people thought he was.  They shared some of the local gossip, then he asked, "But whom say ye that I am? And Peter said "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Jesus said,"Blessed art thou, Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.  And I say unto thee; that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church....

People are arguing to this day about what Jesus meant by that!  Here's a view I prefer.

Jesus recognized that Peter (Until then called Simon, his first name) had arrived at his conclusion about Jesus by entering the zone and receiving this information from God Himself.  This was, of course, the message Jesus had hoped to convey!  Greek word for rock (petros) was assigned to Peter because he "got the message" and it was the message upon which Jesus wanted "his church" founded.  Peter recognized this.

The other disciples may or not have "caught on."  Seemingly at least some of them remained followers of Jesus the Man and later appointed Peter as leader of the new church in Rome.  God's sense of humor shows through when it turns out that Peter could turn on the "Jesus Zone" himself.

This was carried over by Peter, when he became the first Pope.  It was understood that when he spoke in ordinary conversations he was the ex-fisherman and when he spoke as the inspired representative of Christ, he entered the "Jesus Zone" and spoke "ex-cathedra" infallibly!

So it was with Jesus, Son of God!

The more remarkable to me, that Jesus the Man should suffer his cruel death because he steadfastly refused to deny that he was at the same time the son of God.  His message that split time in human history is that you and I can achieve what he did -- surrender ourselves to God's direction as we hear it In the Jesus Zone

I am convinced that the Bible contains humankind's clearest revelation of the truth about God and our relationship with him that could possibly be conveyed to people during the first century reign of Constantine, Emperor of Rome. 

I am further convinced that among words therein is a secret  message personally directed to you here and now from the beginning of the universe.
