The assassination of Benazir Bhutto... shortly before elections in Pakistan... gives new meaning to our own upcoming elections.

Not only does the killing of a candidate, chaos, and uncertainty put the issue of world politics on a front burner... it is also a reminder of the freedoms we have in this country and the opportunity to vote in a democratic society.

The Iowa Caucus is a few days away.  Our own Phil Shuman will be there for Fox 11's coverage.  John Schwada will cover the New Hampshire primary.  And we Californians vote in early February.

Question now... does Bhutto's killing change YOUR thoughts on whom to vote for? Are you thinking more about world affairs, or issues here at home like illigal immigration, health care, education?

I've talked with a few people who have not received any election ballot info in the mail yet.  I have received something on the propositions.  I urge everyone to start talking politics if you haven't already.  Let the assassination serve as a wake up call as we emerge from the holidays and kick into election high gear.

The killing of Benazir Bhutto is very sad but considering where it happened it is really of no great suprise. Personally speaking I am going to vote for a all around leader for president. What does that mean? Well to me it means: the economy at home, health care, foreign policy experence, education and strong defense.
My president must be willing to fight the war on terror both offensive and defensive. Also my president must pledge support to Israel.I want a president that will follow 100% the Laws on Immigration. The world we live in has vastly changed and a voter needs to understand that now it is very neccesary to make your vote mean a better America and all that implies.

Christine,

You are right on target when you said that at the end of your blog. So far, I haven't received any campaign mailers, but the exchanges going on give me an idea of the individual's character. Some of those exchanges show the moral character of the individual when the candidate responds, while other exchanges show a past behavioral pattern.

I have learned to put a premium on the individual's conduct for this reason: thsi person is going to be trusted with the decisions that are in the best interest of the country...industries that contract with the government must go through rigorous security screenings...if this head of state's personal conduct is questionable, how can we trust the candidate in matters of high security? We need someone who can lead us in a strong defense. This next candidate must also support Israel...bad things happen to those nations that go against Israel. If we elect a questionable leader, I'm concerned that someone will be insane enough to try assassinating our next President. I sure hope that I'm wrong about this sense of doom.

Great blog Christine! Happy New Year!

yeah i read the pamphlet for the propositions. some concept about community colleges receiving funding separate from k-12 funding. how the heck should i know if that is important? i saw a display ad online for Harley-Davidson technician training school which seems to me to be a good skill set. i don't feel good about hillary being president although i appreciate her serious nature and her intelligence. joe biden is my idea of presidential material. hey, let's keep the heat on city atty Rocky Delgado-- the harvard law, Omelveny & Myers alum who lets his wife drive a city car and who has no car insurance for either himself or his wife. this is not cool. what does the city atty earn per year? time for a KTTV editorial.

Christine,

I forgot to say one more thing about the candidates: I'd like to find out where they stand on the planned North American Merger of Canada, the United States, and Mexico. I am aware that the plans include getting rid of our Constitution, and restricting our freedoms. The new currency will be the Amero, which will lower our standards of living as we know it now.

What may be even more telling than how wrong Hillary got Pakistan is the fact that none of her Democrat rivals have called her out on it. She made her remarks in a high profile interview on the last Sunday morning before the Iowa caucus. It’s now Tuesday. Where are the Edwards and Obama camps to criticize her for getting everything on a vital story completely wrong? It’s reasonable to assume that none of the experts in either camp are even aware that Hillary is so disastrously wrong about the hottest foreign policy story of the moment.
It’s just like when Dhimmicrats try and quote the bible. Inevitably they screw it up because they haven’t the foggiest notion what’s actually inside the pages of their dusty scriptures.

Christine great news cast tonight. I wish all we had here was rain.We would be happy and things would be normal. But maybe I had better be careful what I wish because rain would be kind of bad this time of year.
Okay have a wonderful weekend hope to see you the next time.

It has been my honor to work(anchor 10pm news) at Fox 11 news since 1990(yes, I started when I was 2!) Jokes aside, Fox 11 has allowed me to continue my passion for knowledge and education. My parents were both educators and stressed "knowing about our world." They were aid workers in Brazil(my heritage) and Africa and emphasized a caring for community. I love coming to work each day and being a part of "what's new." Fox 11 has allowed me to serve through our Wednesday's Child program. Our goal, to help children in foster care... who will end up on the streets at 18... find permanent safe homes. Through WC we are using the power and outreach of TV to find adoptive homes for children in GREAT need. My parents were foster parents and adopted one boy. I was adopted by my step-dad, which gave me the name "Devine." At home, I enjoying cooking and fitness. I have a new puppy for the first time since high school and am completely in love. (and with my fiance too!)
