Stephen Barrows from Plano emailed me the other day with a great question. Here it is:

I've got a question you probably can answer. I live in Plano, but I see this in other cities, too. On the ends of the arms of traffic signals there are signs, or something, facing upwards, so only people in the air can see them. Street names seem most likely, but these things are only about one fourth the size of the signs we on the street see, and we're a lot closer than you folks in the sky, so I wonder. Do you know what I'm talking about? What are they? What's on them?

I could only come up with one answer and that would be....solar panels! Plano is a leader when it comes to proactive energy saving in the area so it makes sense to me. I'm going to fly up there this afternoon to confirm my hypothesis. Thanks for a great question Stephen!

Don't ask me how they work for sure but they are called wind dampers. It keeps the arms steady in high winds at least that is what I have been told.

Boycan, I wish you were right. The truth is that Al Gore is funneling this stolen energy to energize his ungreen mansion.

Tired of meager aircraft and petty listeners, Chopper Chip upgrades and silences the critics.

Could you imagine seeing me fly around in one of those beasts? One things for sure, I'd be the cause of many a wreck!

True, Chip...but just think of how helpful you could be to the authorities opening up...er, blazing new trails for traffic to get through.

Welcome to the chopper zone! If you're new to the area let me introduce myself. My job for FOX 4: Be the eyes that guide you to the traffic troubles around the Metroplex! I'm a Texan through and through--born in Austin, raised in North Texas with a degree from TCU. My wife and I have been married for 12 years and we have 2 kids. I love playing golf and watching all sports. I also like to sing and play guitar. My secret goal? Someday I'd love to build my own golf course....but having the ability to retire on one would be great too! If there's anything I can do to help you plan routes through this busy part of Texas please let me know and as always: have a "Good Day!"
