This is a big deal for people around Grapevine Lake. Groundbreaking ceremonies were today for a new hi-rise hotel and condo resort project on the northshore of the lake, in Flower Mound. This will be a good rival for the hugely-successful Gaylord Texan, on the south shore of the lake. Here's an artist's rendition:

For those of us who live in Flower Mound, it will be nice to see some dirt turned in the Lakeside part of town, which has some of the nicest (but emptiest streets) in North Texas.

Just what every city needs, another high rise to block the views, create traffic havoc, rip people off, and lets not forget-add to the tax base. Being a tourist in a small town like Vegas was bad enough. Good luck to Lakeside, I hope it is worth destroying the lake for.

I dont understand why these developers have to destroy all the fresh land available. I think the cities should deny any new anything. Developers can and should use the properties that are already built on..If they have old buildings, they should be made to restore them and bring them up to code or tear them down..Instead of moving the downtown areas, they should be made to renew the downtowns. Tooo much waste.
Sorry I just call it as I see it..Doesnt mean I am right or wrong, just another idea. I am tired of seeing our commercial areas be built, then go vacant. What is wrong will all the high rises that are empty in Dallas? What else can the rich destroy? How about making developers be responsible for what they abandon as "old" instead of giving them cart blanc with virgin land? If it cost more-charge more.

You guys are ripping on my Town! :)

If you're not familiar with Flower Mound, you should know it's been at the forefront of land preservation efforts in North Texas. In the past 10 years, no Town has been more restrictive in granting permits for new construction -- residential or commercial. It's almost impossible to build new homes that are on less than an acre of land. Just last week, the Town Council voted NO on a Market Street upscale grocery store to build on a piece of land already designated commercial. In part they voted NO because 400 trees (many of them scrub) would have to be cut down.

This piece of land for the Lakeside resort is right on Grapevine Lake. It's never been good farm land -- too hilly and rocky. Several years ago, the Town invested millions of dollars in infrastructure costs (new streets, fancy culdesacs, irrigation, water and sewer) to lure development to this piece of prime property. Now with this hotel project finally in construction, the Town can realize some return on this investment. I think it's going to be great business for Flower Mound. I love the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine. Now we'll have something across the lake to call our own.

Howdy! First off, I'm not the FOX 4 traffic guy. That's Waggoner. I'm the "other Chip" and I’m the managing editor of this world’s-finest newsroom. One of my responsibilities is to manage this website, so I’d love to hear your comments. Outside of work, I’m on the board of directors of Radio Television News Directors Association, the leading organization of TV/radio/online journalists in the world. One of the Top 5 highlights of my life will come when the Texas Rangers win a World Series. My wife is also in TV News, and we've got two great kids. This photo is me in front of a mountain glacier at the Columbia Icefields in Alberta, Canada. How to tell Chip Waggoner and me apart? We're both good-looking, but he's a Frog and I'm a Mustang, and that's all you need to know about that!
