The Other Chip

We had a TOTAL blast this week producing the ALL ACCESS: Behind the Scenes newscast Wednesday night, and we can't wait to do it again.  Right now, the plan is to do another ALL ACCESS during Good Day in a couple of weeks, but I don't have specific details to announce yet.

For those of you who weren't watching Wednesday night, we had a triple-cast going of sorts.  There was the regular 9pm newscast on FOX 4.  Meantime, on our website, you could watch a live webcast with Steve Noviello going around showing you all the behind-the-scenes things that go into putting on a newscast.  Further, several FOX 4 staffers (including our on-air anchors) joined about 600 of you in a live chat.  It was a lot to keep up with, but it was fun.

If you didn't get to see ALL ACCESS: Behind the Scenes, do a "site search" above for the keywords "All Access".  You'll get right to a story that has the video clips attached.  (It's also on our DFW Diversions page.)

Several of you have already posted your feedback for All Access on these blogs.  If you haven't, feel free to tell us what you think, so we can make the next one better!

Hey Chip, why not do a Good Day Saturday, webcast? This would boost your viewers on Saturdays as well as giving us some real fun.The webcast this past Wednesday was nice but I did not like at all the language used in the chat feature.

Good idea. It takes a lot of extra people to do All Access, but we'll give it some thought. One thing we could do very easily is do a chat on Good Day Saturday.

The chat software we used does filter out bad words (though it's always possible to misspell them slightly to get past the filter). You'll always get a few jerks who want to try to ruin it for others, but we've always found that the good always trumps the evil when we reach out online.

Yes Chipper a lot of the bloggers have been asking for a chat function be instituted. Also if I might add,it'd be a fantastic idea if we could get more interaction with the Fox4 people in our blogs. It makes our blogs a lot more fun to do if we know that the Fox4 people will interact with us.

Hey Chip...The simultaneous webcast is a fantastic idea. When I change over to high speed (next week) - yes I know I'm in the "dark ages", I plan to catch the next one! Also, I'm a new blogger, but already am addicted - this is the most fun web site I've found. FOX4 rocks!!

I was in NY at the time, but I did get a chance to see it. Can't wait to see the Good Day version.

Keller, I was hidden back at my desk monitoring the chat that night. Since I wasn't in Steve Noviello's camera path, I stayed out of the limelight.

Dragona33, you can watch the "behind the scenes" webcast. It's on our site. Click on the About Us tab and look in the box on the right side of the page. You can also search for "Behind the Scenes", and you'll get a link there too.

Howdy! First off, I'm not the FOX 4 traffic guy. That's Waggoner. I'm the "other Chip" and I’m the managing editor of this world’s-finest newsroom. One of my responsibilities is to manage this website, so I’d love to hear your comments. Outside of work, I’m on the board of directors of Radio Television News Directors Association, the leading organization of TV/radio/online journalists in the world. One of the Top 5 highlights of my life will come when the Texas Rangers win a World Series. My wife is also in TV News, and we've got two great kids. This photo is me in front of a mountain glacier at the Columbia Icefields in Alberta, Canada. How to tell Chip Waggoner and me apart? We're both good-looking, but he's a Frog and I'm a Mustang, and that's all you need to know about that!
