The Other Chip

Michael Irvin will learn later today whether he's elected to the Hall of Fame. To me, he's a sure thing, and he should have gone in last year.

When the Cowboys were at their best in the mid-90's, Irvin was the emotional leader of the team. Compared to the combustible Terrell Owens, Irvin put his team first. I think I heard Troy Aikman say once that no one worked harder in practice, and in the games, than Michael.

#88 wasn't the fastest receiver ever to play the game, but he used his physical strength and size to beat defenders and catch key passes.

Michael's failings in life were very public, but he's rebuilt for himself a new life in television, and he's got a lot to be proud of.

Good luck Michael! You deserve a great phone call today.

How soon we forget. Dont we remember about all the drug charges that were bought off by Jerry Jones. All the woman chasing that he was caught in the act of. Wonder how the mans wife felt about that. For some reason I really dont think that I want any of my kids looking up to or admiring anyone of that caliber. Sports hero? I dont think so. More like a sports idiot. Should he be inducted into the Hall of Fame? NEVER!!!!!!! If I were any member of the Cowboys organization, I would be totally ashamed that his name was associated with any other players what so ever.

Everyone makes mistakes in life but Michael's like was in the public eye. That doesn't make him worse than your local mail person or grocer because we have no idea what they do in their private life. They could be worse for all we know.

Michael deserves to be the Hall cause what he did off the field did not effect the numbers and skills that the put on the field. Your kids don't have to look up to him, but how many of your kids know what he did off the field cause it was so long ago.
Nobody admires people cause of the bad things they did so if yor kids look up to him trust me it's cause of is talent.
One more rant, They Hall is a showcase of the best in the NFL. his numbers and Rings show that he belongs in the Hall.

He deserves it! Without Irvin, Aikman and Emmitt wouldn't be remebered as they are know. Irvin made them better, but in reality the three of them complemented each other very well.

That_guy, your arguement is so full of holes, I wouldn't know where to begin. Stick to basketball, my friend.

As for Michael, Congratulations. Now live up to the Hall Of Fame standards, please.

I'm glad he got it. I think he deserved it. He was one of the key team leaders. And I think he has redeemed himself. Congrats, Michael.

Everyone makes mistakes. MI deserved his honors for the job, he had already done.
He was crucified in public, which in itself, is punishment enough, for the embarrasments he has caused. He has turned the corner in his life and shown you can change and move on. Some people just live in the past and look for the bad. MI is good people and has proven it in all the things, he does now.
I vote-put him in, he earned in, even if he has had to take a few steps back, to go forward.

Howdy! First off, I'm not the FOX 4 traffic guy. That's Waggoner. I'm the "other Chip" and I’m the managing editor of this world’s-finest newsroom. One of my responsibilities is to manage this website, so I’d love to hear your comments. Outside of work, I’m on the board of directors of Radio Television News Directors Association, the leading organization of TV/radio/online journalists in the world. One of the Top 5 highlights of my life will come when the Texas Rangers win a World Series. My wife is also in TV News, and we've got two great kids. This photo is me in front of a mountain glacier at the Columbia Icefields in Alberta, Canada. How to tell Chip Waggoner and me apart? We're both good-looking, but he's a Frog and I'm a Mustang, and that's all you need to know about that!
