What does your Thanksgiving dinner consist of? Ours is almost always the same each year. My mother-in-law usually has the turkey cooked to a nice golden brown and nice and tender. I usually make a big pan of cornbread dressing which I always mix in some cooked chicken, celery and onions. It seems I can never make enough of that each year. Then we have the gravy for the turkey and dressing. Actually we use the famous can of cream of chicken. Next, are a pot of green beans. Nothing fancy, we just put them in the pan and cut up some onions and tomatoes and let them cook with the green beans until the onions are soft and clear. Then of course we have a pot of kernel corn and as always black eye peas. We have the peas at Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. I saved one of my favorites for last. Cranberry sauce. But its got to be the smooth kind. Is there anyone here that doesn't like cranberry sauce? I have a brother-in-law that doesn't like it at all. Sorry, I just have to have that with my meal. Lastly, our dessert. We always have a couple of pies, pumpkin pie and apple pie. Top it off with vanillia ice cream and you've got it made. What do you make for your Thanksgiving meal?

That sound delicous B2Nature. I know in my family there is always a tie when it comes to the stuffing. That is when my grandmother cooks it. We always have half of my moms and half of my grandmothers... But when my uncle tried making it, lets just say there was more than enough to go around for the next few weeks. But Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Of course to my family no one can make dressing like grandma (that being me).
We have about the same as you but my family has to have my candied yams, mac and cheese, and some pea salad thrown in for good measure. lol
I usually make a couple of pecan pies and of course my famous Hurricane Cake. Need to say we have a feast.

My TG dinner consists of me doing all the cooking...I'll have the turkey cooked to a golden brown with the seasonings just under the skin; giblet gravy; homemade mashed potatos; twice baked potatos; homemade stuffing; fresh green beans; broccli and cheese (nieces and sister likes those); cranberry sauce (only my Dad likes that stuff); candied yams; and to top it off...my Great Aunt's Homemade noodles. I'll have to start those off the day before...takes 4hrs just to make the noodles! Flour everywhere...but so worth the effort!

My dad likes pies, so I'll cook up a few...hmmm, what flavors??? Blueberry, Strawberry, apple, apple/cinimon, apple/cranberry, ras/blue/straw berries, cherry... I always use fresh berries whenever I cook them. Don't like eating them so Dad is the guine pig! Don't think he minds that though!

Did I mention this is only for a family of 4 adults and two kids...and that the meal will be duplicated in two homes since one half can't get to the other half's house cause of high gas prices?!?

Think I need to clean out the freezer...loks like a lotta leftovers!

People like me that are picky eaters - the holidays just bite.

My dinner will consist of turkey slices and mashed potatoes....

Things I do NOT like: pecan pie, pumpkin pie, cranberry ANYTHING, stuffing, yams, candied ANYTHING, black-eyed peas, ice cream.

So - I stick with the basics....

In fact, if any elementary school cafeteria would just serve every meal from now till the day I get put in a nursing home - I would be JUST fine!!

hehehehehehehehehe

I LOVE almost ALL school or hospital cafeteria food.

A litle bit of turkey and ham and a whole bunch of cornbread dressing.

I'll probably try some of the yams but will bypass the green beans.

If there is mac and cheese I will dive into it face first

And if I am lucky there will be a little speial pan of cornbread dressing laced with jalapenos

Lee, I've never heard of cornbread dressing with jalapenos, but it does sound tasty. Maybe I'll try a little in my dressing this year.

Back2Nature - That sound delicious!!!!

I made a post before I read your post.

We eat pretty much the same things you have listed along broccoli & rice casserole, deviled eggs (see my post), candied yams, mashed potatoes, and Sweet Potato Pie! I like both kinds of cranberry sauce - smooth and with whole berries.

It's ALL good!

Have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm already skimping on what I eat so I can pig out that day.....ya gotta luv it!
This time of year gets to me though.I really hardly ever go around my family, too much dysfunction while I was growing up, but my daughter wants a Thanksgiving with all the family(like it used to be).Hubby has already told me to invite them if I want but, I'm torn. I guess I could tell them all to not start anything(esp. my mother), geez I just dunno.

I cook it myself. Turkey, herb stuffing, sweet potatoes (that's a different recipe each year), mashed potatoes, peas, cranberry sauce, pumpkin, pecan, & apple pies. We watch the Macy parade, Cowboy Game, & find a good holiday movie to watch after the game.

Our holiday sounds like junecleavers. We have turkey with dressing and gravy, ham, sweet potato prailine, candied yams, creamed baby peas, spring salad with homemade orange dressing, mashed potatoes, corn casserole, homemade yeast rolls, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, lemon pie, mincemeat pie, chocolate pie, cherry pie, whatever dessert anyone brings. Then after the Cowboy game, we put on Christmas Vacation and sip Bailey's Irish Cream or Gentleman Jack. Good times...
