I have been hearing a reporter giving a tease about a story that is planned to air on Fox13.

His question, loud and clear, is:
How is it that Sex Offenders on Probation are allowed to live in tents at a Campground for the Homeless?  How can that be their Address when they are supposed to be under Supervision by State Corrections Authorities, and the Sheriff's Department?

I am already of the opinion that a person with a Fifty Intelligence Quotient could spell it out where anyone could understand.  But, I will proceed, nonetheless;

  1. Nobody: not the Lawmakers, not the Psychologists, and certainly not the Public, is willing to see that there is a difference between the "average" Sexual Offender and the "Predatory" Sexual Offender.
  2. Nobody: not the Lawmakers, not the Psychologists, and certainly not the Public, is willing to allow these people to reintegrate into Society.
  3. Nobody: not the Lawmakers, not the Psychologists, and certainly not the Public, is willing to allow these people to work and be productive Citizens.
  4. Nobody: not the Lawmakers, not the Psychologists, and certainly not the Public, is willing to allow these people to live next door to them.

Actually, one does not even have to be a Sexual Offender to see this dynamic at work against them.  These sanctions are generally applied to most anyone who has ever been convicted of a Felony Offense.  People with a history of serious crime are no longer considered to be human beings, even if they have been going straight for years after they came out of Prison.

If you are not one who feels that way, and you don't happen to believe it is true, just call around to a half-dozen Employment Agencies and ask if they will place someone with a Felony Record.  I recently took such a poll for a friend who is on staff with an Employability Workshop, and I was stunned with the answers I received from the Agencies I contacted.

So, I ask you; if a Human Being is considered not a human being, and cannot find employment, and cannot pay for a place to live IF a place can be found, what are they going to do?  What can they do besides bum around and maybe panhandle for enough to but some food and beer, and live in a tent somewhere?

WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!  Don't you think they would be less likely to repeat their offenses if the were allowed to regain some of their Human Dignity, make an honest living, and go on toward a brighter future?  Evidently, that is what Congress believes in passing the Second Chance Act that was recently signed into Law by the President.

And the ones who repeated, in spite of the second chance given, would naturally be labeled as such, and be given harsher punishment.

Otherwise, what has happened to our concept of Human Rights and Human Dignity.  How can we possibly cry out about other Nations violating the Human Rights of their Citizens when 0.9% of American Citizens are CURRENTLY incarcerated?  That's approximately 27 MILLION in a Nation of 300 Million . . . IN JAIL RIGHT NOW!

Does that make you proud to be an American??

OR have certain behaviors become more & more criminal in recent years...recently there has been a big deal about older men having sex with young girls...this has been happening a very long time & now coming under fire..it has not been all that unusual for men to marry women 25 years their junior (not myself)..i know of some cases & they stayed together a very long time

There are only two things Americans, in general, think about anymore:

WIIFM = What's In It For Me?
and
NIMBY = Not In My Back Yard!

Those "Pervs" (who are now above forty-five years of age) were still in the Victim Stage of their Mental Disorder.  They had been mentally, physically, and sexually abused as children, and seemed okay until something in mid-life triggered their acting out.

Most of those under forty are similar, but still much more a product of the Culture that has arisen since the Sixties. There is also the issue that laws have indeed changed.

All sex offenders need to go to jail!...period.

That's a really original glib quip, and that's normal, I guess.

That's why I named this thread, DUH! DOUBLE DUH!! TRIPLE DUH!!!

Everybody just spouts off with knee-jerk [...]. IF a criminal of ANY kind, NOT JUST A SEX OFFENDER, is released from custody, WHERE are the supposed to live? . . . WHERE are they supposed to work? WHAT THE HELL IS THERE TO KEEP THEM FROM GOING BACK TO CRIME?

It sure won't be your DUH attitude.
DUH! DOUBLE DUH!! TRIPLE DUH!!!

OH, and by the way, the way they keep broadening the laws, it won't be long before your chances of going to jail get a whole lot better.

Do you even have a clue? There are some States that will put your face on the WEBSITE for no more than being accused. And, even if you are never convicted, even if it is found to be a false accusation, you can never get your face taken off the web, identified as a sex offender.

That's it, normal.

why not give sex offenders life without parole.
do like that sheriff in Arizona did house them in army tents and let them raise their own food.

That might be more Humane than turning them out into a society filled with people who love to hate, but pretend that they care about others.

The question remains, what are you going to do when some broadly defined law catches you up in its trap? It doesn't have to be a sex law. Maybe they will make it a felony when you don't fasten your seat belt. Who knows? I am sure that you are nowhere near perfect.

It seems to matter a great deal who you are as far as punishment goes, the priests that raped all the kids went on for years & were pretty old before being prosecuted. I see now that Roger Clemens had sex with a 15yr old & no worry about prosecuting him. The women teachers who have sex with the young guys seem to fare very well in court. I read that the old guy in Austria who kept his daughter prisoner for 20 years, had sex with her & a bunch of kids is facing a 15yr sentence. I can see a life sentence in some cases but i think you could also be a victim of the current trend that seems to be swirling around these type offenses.

NOW, ELF, you are getting the point. KUDOS!!
The U.S. Constitution guarantees EQUITY under the Law.
The Law says the Penalty at Sentencing is the Payment, end of line.

The HYSTERIA that has driven the "On Second Thought" Laws is actually a VIOLATION of the Constitutional prohibition of Ex Post Facto law.

You do more with your grey matter than most folks . . . you think with it. KUDOS again.

The most DANGEROUS form of existence in today's America is to be a poor or middle-income heterosexual white man.

THAT IS NOT A RACE BAITING STATEMENT!! JUST FACT!!

There is a lot of goffiness & hysteria surrounding child abuse/molestation ,almost a sort of witch trial thing, when i was a kid the favorite motto was "spare the rod & spoil the child"...myself & most other kids would get a beating for various offenses/ disobeying!! Now the kids are seen to have a sort of greater value than the adults and must be treated with great respect lest they turn mom/dad in to the "powersthatbe" for abuse.

Does the term "Whipping Boy" mean anything to you?

A whipping boy, in feudal times, was a boy of the same age but lower rank raised with a prince or nobleman as a playmate, who was whipped in his place when the young nobleman -- too high in standing to be beaten by anyone below his father, who was often unavailable -- misbehaved or slacked in his studies, as a psychological 'indirect punishment'.
