Officer Killed

Flags are at half staff in St. Louis City after a 22 year old police officer is shot and killed. Officer Norvelle Brown was shot in the 1600 block of Semple just before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

He later died at Barnes Jewish Hospital. St. Louis Police Chief Joseph Mokwa reported the rookie officer was wearing body armor, but the bullet entered through his armpit, hit his lung, and pierced his artery.

I WAS DOWN AT POLICE HEADQUARTERS THIS MORNING AS THE FLAGS WERE LOWERED AND THE BLACK BUNTING WAS PUT UP.

I WENT INSIDE AND THERE WERE OFFICERS CRYING. I ASKED THEM IF THEY KNEW HIM AND THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T BUT HE WAS STILL FAMILY.

VERY SAD AND SENSELESS...

This story is so sad.
My condolence to the family of this young man and I hope they get who did this.

THAT IS JUST HORRIBLE AND THE CRIMINAL IS STILL OUT THERE I HOPE THEY GET HIM AND FAST.

Being the wife of a police officer and hearing this really hits close to home for me. I feel very sad for this young police officer and his family. This was so senseless, it didn't have to come to this. Nobody deserves to be shot and killed. I pray that the police catch these criminals (putting it nicely). I hear that there are 3 of them out there. This young hero is with God now watching over his fellow police men and women.

Police Officer's Prayer to St. Michael

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,
who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises
of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional
eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for
investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and
law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores,
strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences
with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not
always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so
pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the
throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all
the people. Amen.

On June 20, 2007 the ACLU equipped residents in high crime areas (like this) to videotape the police and how they "mistreat" the people in that neighborhood. My question is, was the videotape running this time so that Officer Norvelle Brown's killer is caught?

To those trying to protect these punks by thinking a videotape will calm a situation - the police will maintain their high level of integrity.

Officer Brown had a little over a year on the force and was destined to climb his way up the ladder in law enforcement. He died a hero serving and protecting the citizens of St. Louis. Our thoughts and prayers go out to/for his family and all his fellow officers.

Who said that North County / north St. Louis was safe?

I posted this once and being new to the blogs I hope it is ok to repeat this. I am sending a poem that was placed in my mailbox when my 29 year old son, Jason was murdered 6 years ago. He was the victim of an attempted carjacking. It has and still does bring me comfort. I hope it offers some comfort to the family of this young man. I am so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to lose a child and I wish I had better words of comfort to offer.

He Only Took My Hand


Last night while I was trying to sleep
My son’s voice I did hear.
I opened my eyes and looked around,
But he did not appear.

He said, “Mom, you’ve got to listen,
You’ve got to understand.
God did not take me from you,
He only took my hand.

When I called out in pain that night,
The instant that I died,

Wow, that is a strong poem. I hope it does give Brown's family peace. I hope it did the same with you debwheelerstl....Parents aren't supposed to bury their children....it is the other way around. I don't know what I would do if one of my children were taken from me.

This was a senseless murder. I pray everyday my boyfriend goes out to patrol these streets that he comes home safely. The Brown family is in my prayers as is the SLMPD family.Your watch is over Office Brown and your brothers in blue will take it from here.
