Nobody did it better than Elizabeth Granados.  She's the newest cop on the streets of Santa Ana, following her graduation at the top of her academy class out of 38.  What a story!  She emigrated from Mexico seven years ago, interned at the Santa Ana Police Department, earned two degrees at UC Irvine and became the first female Santa Ana cop to take top honors among recruits.  Don't think because she's a woman they cut her any slack.  They didn't.  There's only one standard for men and women and Elizabeth proved that in a profession dominated by men, that a woman can best them all.  In speaking to this engaging and yet humble young woman, you get the feeling she'll be going places fast.  Way to go Officer Granados!!

The big question is: "How many times can she look the other way when she sees Illegal Alien Gansters roaming the streets of Santa Ana?"

Is Officer Granados the ONLY citizen of Santa Ana who's here LEGALLY. I notice you say she emigrated from Mexico seven years ago, but did she ever both to fill out the paperwork and learn to salute the AMERICAN flag? Because the rest of the city certainly doesn't. Oh well, at least she speaks the native language of Santa Ana, Spanish.

We know with Officer Granados around, the following is not a problem in Santa Ana, right?

IHT

MEXICO CITY: Federal lawmakers want to raise the minimum age for marriage to 18 for both sexes to keep children from dropping out of school, according to a bill introduced in Mexico’s Senate on Thursday.

The current minimum age of 14 for women and 16 for men encourages children “to leave school and go to work, causing a situation that creates a vicious circle of poverty,” five senators who sponsored the bill said in its text.

Nearly 400,000 Mexican children between 12 and 17 are married or living with romantic partners, said Sen. Guillermo Tamborrel, a member of the ruling National Action Party who wrote the bill.

Most of those marriages take place after an underage woman becomes pregnant, Tamborrel said, because men in many parts of Mexico can avoid jail time for statutory rape by marrying the girl.

Thats great. I wish more people realized that women can meet standards set for men. Sure it might be harder for women because as we know, men ARE naturally built to be stranger physically. I say this because LAPD SWAT lowered their standards to try to include more women, as you know. I find it ridiculous and frankly women should be insulted by it. Good for Officer Granados. Kudos to her.

Personally if I'm trapped in a burning building I don't want a female who couldn't pass the standard test to drag me out (if she even can). It's a shame that Villaragosa and his cronies have lowered the standard of excellence once again.

Between Los Angeles and Santa Ana, Santa Ana is a safer city...though it is run down in certain parts, it has some potential of coming back strong, if done carefully. As for Granados: kudos to her...at least she is one of the hard working legal immigrants, and hopefully, she will survive on the street beat.

Al, Great blog!

By the way, I have to drive through some rough areas of Santa Ana...if you drive through Santa Ana, you'll notice plenty of cameras around...and some streets require you to take a detour...just some of the ways they go after gangs. The down side of Santa Ana besides its rough image: too many red light cameras with a short yellow light on a number of them, especially on the turn lights! If you ever get a ticket from the cameras...fight it!

Now for Granados, if I happen to come across her at some eatery, I'll be sure to pass on a congratulations to her!

The OC's my beat for FOX 11 News. But you can catch me covering just about any story, any place, any time. Have news, will travel! I've been doing that here at Fox 11 for 15 years, traveling coast to coast and south of the border. You never know what you might do or where you might end up and your assignment could change from one minute to the next. To me, that's what being a reporter is all about. And it's pretty cool working in an area where I was born and raised. Yep, I'm a native Angeleno and proud of it!! In case you're wondering, Naipo is Hawaiian, the short version of the 21-letter ancestral name, Naipoikamanaihookaahi....
Good luck on the pronunciation.
